Jack Grimes not selected either. Just saw that on the AFL website. Pretty large omissions. Would've thought he was easily best 22.

Well it still beats Nathan Jones fc
GC has a very solid team that will only keep getting better until it has a flag.

We have 7 new players in the team, and while it looks much better on paper than the team this time last year, it will take time to gel.

Grimes misses... just... because Salem and Howe make for better HBF's than him (Salem for disposal and calmness, Howe for his really, really good reading of the ball), and he's not a true enough mid to force a spot there. His confidence in himself seems a bit shot right now. Too much hesitation and second guessing. A couple of weeks at Casey getting some touches might be good for him.

vanDemonberg looks like a real find. Big, tall, fast. Hope he comes on.

With Dawes suspended this game Frost has a big chance to steal his position. If he leads well and kicks a couple, then Dawes might find himself playing understudy... and if not then he's always going to find a spot as a backman.

And Angus... I really like this kid. He's a larriken that doesn't look like he worries that much about anything, but seems to do all the right things once he gets on the field. I doubt he was in the plans for round one 6 weeks ago (ie no NAB matches), but he did so well in the seconds during that time that he demanded a spot.

I like that Kent is in the side. I think that he might have been touch and go as he isn't a huge fan of two way running, but he has good skills, good belief in himself, and a good deal of mongrel about him. I guess if Roos feels he is capable of 'rounding out his game' then that's good enough for me.

Not expecting a win. GC should be even more polished than last year, and we murder ourselves with turnovers, but if we can stay close and have some patches that show that the players understand and believe in the plan then I'm be content.

HBacks J.Pittard, T.Jonas, M.Broadbent

That Ryder bloke better show something quick smart. From what I've seen so far this preseason he is yet to get a kick let a lone a hit out to advantage.

He'll probably miss most of the season due to having to look after his deformed and ABI'd baby

i won't go as far as to say "should be a good game" but will speculatively say it'll be interesting, pumped to see boyd up front with crameri, stringer, bonti, dahl. but when i think of our depleted midfield i feel a bit giddy

Melb vs Dees will be interesting of Ablett doesn't play. Jag not certain and Day, lynch and Dixon i think it was all out
Dees up by 4 straight kicks early in the 2nd. Was tempted to put money on the Dees. Think they have an okay team with a good pre-season, whereas the Suns have a great team with a pretty poor preseason....
