Was meant to again say sorry to GB2 and PKY, in not trying to troll but I think they are in serious trouble
Sacking Ratten was a horrible outcome for the club. He got Carlton to a prelim with an OK list, and when he was our midfield coach we played finals even though we didn't have stars (good players that could turn it on... White, Neitz, Yze, Robbo etc) but no stars, and our mids played as a unit. When he left...

The board at Carlton made the mistake of thinking that the team made Ratten look good, when in actual fact it was the other way around.

Now they have a bitter Malthouse who doesn't seem to care about much other than sticking it up Eddie twice a year, demanding a new contract, and clearing out players that shake their head at what he is doing. Added to that recruiting and trading have been very poor over the last couple of years.

It's going to be a painful couple of seasons even if they get things right starting from now.

Well we never made a prelim. We only won the 1 final under Ratten. 2, recruiting under Ratten was piss poor. I read the other day that it was Ratten who over ruled our recruiter to take Kane lucas over Talia. There are only a couple of players still on our list that were taken early rounds in the draft while Ratten was around.

I actually think our recruiting has been great over the past 3 years. We have picked up some handy players like Cripps and Menzel. People say we've topped up when we've actually brilliantly adjusted the age profile of the list. The only old guys we've picked up have been daisy and everitt who were both only mid 20s.

Problem I saw last night was Carlton were mostly second to the ball. They were unable to penetrate the defensive zone and if they did....had no one to pass it to. Their skills even when they were not under enormous pressure was deplorable. Most importantly they don't have the resilience to take on the game. They should have smashed an injury ridden Eagles backline but the mids struggled to get first use of the ball. All that aside it is only round 2. There is plenty of time to get back on track if you guys can gel it together for 4 quarters.

They don't have the balls to take the game on. That's the main problem I see. We have 3 tall forwards down there, yet we chip the ball around half back. Run at the opposition, handball through the corridor, kick long to a contest that isn't 1m away from the boundary. Yarran and Docherty were the only 2 guys that were willing to look to the middle of the ground all night, and when you're playing Subi, you have to look there first every time.

Seriously though, did anyone see Menzel get bumped on the top of the head and not even get a free kick last night? Or when JPK grabbed a chunk of Jamo's jumper and then received a free kick, because Jamo's jumper was holding onto his hand? Or When JPK pushed Rowe right in the middle of the back and didn't get a free....or when Gibbs grabbed the ball out of the ruck and got a legal kick away before being pinged for illegal disposal :| Or when Tuohy got the handball away and got called for a throw? Or when Tuohy picked the ball up got tackled and Wellingham punched the ball out of his hand and Tuohy got called for a throw? Or when the centre bounce went out of the circle, got tapped by NicNat straight to Bell who immediately got wrapped up by 3 Eagles and got called for holding the ball? Or when Gaff got tackled with the ball on the boundary, and tried to take it out but didn't make it, so just laid on top of the ball getting tackled legally not trying to even attempt to get it out and the umpire called for a throw up?

I know we're shit and the Eagles were quite good....but the umpires were the worst I've seen for years.

Paulski, I reckon Carlton ought to play Casboult up the ground. He has a bit of the Nick Gills about him, great mark, pretty good field kicking...put him in front of goals and his kicking is shocking. They should have looked at making him CHB from the pre season, then you would have the outlet kick from defence and with a quick handpass and kick have got past the zone.

Of course, Mick probably wouldn't like that quick movement

I like him at CHF. Why haven't they just always got someone coming past for the handball regardless? We have some very good finishers that could easily receive a handball off him. He could get 50 assists a year

We are shit, really, really shit.

Really getting tired of watching this same old crap year after year. Nothing ever changes at Carlton...
