On DUBS forum.. there was a debate topic on the Bible.. and many people were saying they didn't believe it.. that it was a bunch of "crap"..

Anyway... I will save my opinions until a few people reply to this, but if you don't believe it... you may not like what I have to say.

I believe the bible has many wonderful ideas to offer the world and many ideas that keep the world in such a turmoil. I don't believe Jesus of Nazareth was the son of God, only a son of God. I don't believe in a Hell or a Devil. Therefore, I can't say that I hold the Bible in any regards other than probably the greatest written work of fiction ever. Of course, this is only my opinion because I am not a Christian. So...you may not even care what I think.

The WORLD is full of hypocrites...

Ok.. if you are one of those "see it to believe it" people... read this.. it is the exact post I made in "The Lair"..

It isn't the old testament that Christians live by anymore. They no longer sacrifice animals and pour blood on the altar and all that. If that was the case, nobody would make it into heaven, and I mean NOBODY! It wasn't until the new testament that Jesus was born.. and took the sins of the world upon him and was crucified so that people CAN be forgiven for their sins.

Also.. the prophecies I was talking about are the ones leading up to the end of the world... here are some examples.. just to name a FEW..

1) "Their shall be wars and rumors of wars" "Nation shall rise against nation.. and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes in diverse places." (Look around you.. there is HATE and WAR all around us. On the "earthquakes in diverse places" part.. there was an earthquake here in Indiana a couple years ago.. and that has never happened. Famines?.. how many children overseas are starving to death? Pestilences- 1. A usually fatal epidemic disease, especially bubonic plague... just think about that one.. how many NEW diseases keep coming up that were unheard of?.. AIDS, SARS, Small Pox.. just to name a few...)

2) "Children will rise agianst their parents".. (How many kids do you know that actually get along with their parents anymore?.. How many kids do you know that actually SHOW respect to their parents?.. very few that I know of..)

3) "Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another." (I can't think of a single place outside of church, where Christians can FREELY talk about God and Christianity without offending people or being accused of trying to "convert" non believers.. its pathetic. Part of being a Christian is supposed to be "spreading the Gospel".. gospel=truth.)

4) Two towers shall fall.. "there shall not be one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down".. (Does September 11, 2001 ring a bell?)

That is all for now...

Now, tell me how this can be false?

You ARE seeing these things happen...

Oh, and about your mom trying to drag you to church... remind her that it is that exact thing that pushes a lot of people away from religion... and that is people trying to force it upon you... at least.. that is what pushed me away for a while.. then I started getting into the Bible, and going to church.. and you couldn't pry me away from Christianity with a crowbar now...

I do care what you think. That was the whole point of me making this thread... and that was to get EVERYONE's opinion on the Bible. Thank you for giving me yours... :)

Just my thoughts, but doesn't this make it seem like God had made many mistakes in the Old Testament?  It basically states that all of the things that God said was law, were now null and void.  Why?  Did he change his mind?  Were his previous ideas wrong?  If it is a case of evolving with the times, since humans could no longer be expected to live good lives (though, even the Bible says that only a few were able), why isn't that still the case?  Why are we not still evolving with the times?  Why would we have to?  Wouldn't God's authority be more significant than that???

Also.. the prophecies I was talking about are the ones leading up to the end of the world... here are some examples.. just to name a FEW..

When haven't there been wars between nations and kingdoms?  When haven't there been natural disasters in diverse places?  And when haven't epidemic diseases plagued the world?  These have all been around for ages.  Even if there were more now (which I would like to see proof on first), would that be God's doing or our's for screwing up our environment and fucking around with nature?

2) "Children will rise agianst their parents".. (How many kids do you know that actually get along with their parents anymore?.. How many kids do you know that actually SHOW respect to their parents?.. very few that I know of..)

When have chlidren ever gotten along with their parents (lol)?  But, in fact, I know several children who are very close with their parents.  And though children may not always get along with their parents, I wouldn't say they were "rising up" against them.  Rising up implies trying to take over, corrupt, enslave and those sorts of things, in my opinion.

I know lots of Christians.  I live in the Bible belt south.  I don't know what you're talking about.  Christianity is still the norm here, not the minority.  Christians are not flamed at all (except maybe behind closed doors).  I certainly don't see anything wrong with Christians or Christianity.  People are allowed to believe how they choose.  I feel that religion is only a means to a relationship with (insert diety here, God, Jesus, Goddess...).

4) Two towers shall fall.. "there shall not be one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down".. (Does September 11, 2001 ring a bell?)

Does the Bible actually say two towers? I'd like a passage.  But, even if it did, as I said before, many of these things have already happened and been happening for ages.  Maybe Osama thought it would be ironic to take down the Two Towers because the Bible used it.

That is all for now...

Now, tell me how this can be false?

You ARE seeing these things happen...

My biggest deterrent from church was not being allowed to ask questions or question the Bible or the pastors. Anytime I didn't understand something or gave an alternative reason for it I was given a politically correct answer (aka bullshit). And I have visited many congregations (visited in the since, of going for a few Sundays or more) from Luthern, Pentacostal, Methodist, Catholic, Southern Baptist and Church of Christ. They were all the same. Though, it didn't much matter. I can not say that I fully believe everything the Bible states, therfore I can not say that I am a Christian. IN MY HEART, I do not believe Jesus of Nazareth died for our sins, because I don't believe he would have needed to. I don't believe God would condemn us to an eternity (or even a large amount of time) to a Hell. I believe God is about love, forgiveness, intelligence and growth as spirits. That means going through many unpleasant situations. Though it would be nice to think child molesters would burn forever, I don't believe it is so. I believe that we experience things for a reason. For instance, maybe a murderer suffered the same or had someone so close to them be murdered. Maybe their spirits were not able to get past it and move on. Maybe they needed to experience what the murderer had done to get understanding and be able to free their souls of the burden. I know lots of times I get so angry because I can't seem to understand why people are so disrespectful and inconsiderate on a daily basis. I don't know how I would move on (my soul anyway) if I went through such an monstroucity. And I have dealt with many horrendous things in life, I am not naive to those who have suffered. And I still believe there is a reason. Anyhow, I'm on a tangent so I'll stop.

The problem I have with christianity is the concept of not being allowed into heaven without faith, even if you were a really good person your entire life. I cant say I believe in the whole concept of this all powerfull being just watching everything and knowing everything Ive ever gone through and telling me that I cant be in heaven because I didnt have faith. Its not my fault that I dont, its just how my mind is. I could say I have faith and I could even act like a good christian, but in my heart I really wouldnt be sure of it.
Theres been so many questions Ive asked religious people and they always tell me that there isnt a answer, that I just have to have faith.
You cant make yourself have faith, and this is a big problem with me as far as christianity is concerned.
I consider myself agnostic, I cant say there isnt a higher power but I do have to many questions to accept christianity as it stands.

first of all what i meant by hypocrites was the fact that i went to church one day with my family and a friend of mines son (who oddly looks kinda like me) the ppl sitting around me wouldnt shake my hand at the peace be with u part because they thought he was mine.....ill never go back again.....that really pissed me off....i dont want to assosiate with intolerant stupid assholes like that.

second when i say see to believe i mean god i need proof that he/she exists....i have trouble beliveing in something that i have no proof that it really exists.

third i respect ur right to believe what u believe but that quote was another reason im really starting to dislike christians u got all preachy and fanatical....no offense to u its ur right to believe that but its also my right to disagree with u.

Ok... first of all, I wasn't trying to get "preachy".. I was only sharing my views with you on the Bible..... not God. I was trying to point things out to you that I see that makes me believe that the Bible is what it says it is... and it is not false. I was not, in no way shape or form, trying to preach or get "fanatical"... I was basically.... just debating.

Second of all... I never said you didn't have the right to disagree with me... if I didn't want someone to disagree... I would not have posted a thread of any kind in debate forum. I respect everyone's opinion..... and I wouldn't have posted if I didn't want opinions......

I was in a Catholic school from Kindergarten to 5th grade.
So I believe in most stuff from the Bible.
For those who aren't believers. The Bible (especially the New Testament) has some great "philosophy".
Some things may sound cliched in Christianity. But there will always be some sort of cliche about faiths.
