I'm surprised we never thought of this yet, honestly. Post in here if you have good ideas for roles for us to use in our games here! You can also have other members help you build your roles if you find them incomplete or unbalanced. Just make sure it isn't something that already exists on EM, or a blatant rip-off from someone else's game/role. 1st Idea: Name: Medium To be used in: classic games. Alliance: Village or 3rd Party Ability: Every night, you can choose one person. If that person is dead in that game, during the next Day Phase, that player can post in the thread about game matters, but he cannot vote. The player who is allowed to post will be announced in the thread. 2nd Idea: Name: Necromancer To be used in: classic games again. Alliance: I don't really know... Ability: Once per game, can kill one person during the night phase. He can later bring the person he killed back to life. Necromancer needs work, to be sure, but I thought he would be a neat idea that could be built upon. Anyway, post away! Post your own roles or help people build on theirs! |

Name: Ballot Spoiler Use: Classic games Alliance: Third Party Role: Vote counts as -3. If, at the end of the day, a person or persons has fewer than 0 votes for them to be lynched, they are converted to an Assistant Ballot Spoiler. Their vote will then count as -1. The Ballot Spoilers win if they convert all remaining players. |

<Oil Baron> Alignment: Third Party Begins each game with three people in his employ. If they do not vote with him, he has the option of "firing" (killing) them. Wins if he is alive at the end. Inspired by the vote stacking caused by the captains of industry/robber barons of the early 20th century. Edited by Shadow31, Dec 3 2011, 08:14 PM.

Let the record show I fully intend to use this role. As a third party, any ideas on the win conditions? (Also, let me know more on the necromancer when you've figured more out, I'm intrigued.)
I feel like this could be a really interesting role. I can already think of a lot of possible ways this could go, so I'd be interested in seeing how this played out in an actual game.
That's quite a source of inspiration, but why exactly would the employees not vote with him? It seems like what you'd end up with is an alliance with the mafia really quickly. ....unless the employees don't know they're employed? Either way, this seems like it'd end up working better with the mafia. Can you clarify what the employees would know, or who they are? |

I really like the Ballot Spoiler in concept, I just think we're gonna have some problems in execution. The existence of the ballot spoiler encourages the "mob mentality" in games and actively discourages players (by threat of being under suspicion of being the Ballot Spoiler) from taking up opposing points of view and voting for different targets. If there was a way to tweak this role to prevent that from being the obvious outcome I would be all for it. |

Talon raises an incredibly important point. Any roles thought of should not detract from the experience of those who are vanilladerps, and keep the quality of the entire game in mind. Or you can just post it and we'll all think about it. Same thing. Right then. Here's my idea on the new villaderp: Rebellious Teenager Unless they are the first to post during each day phase, the Rebellious Teenager must counter someone's point from earlier in the phase at least once each phase. Failure to do this twice during the game sees them accepting authority and killed. Edited by LordQ, Dec 4 2011, 03:27 AM.

Name: The Rat Alliance: Village from Night 3, mafia otherwise Ability: On night 3, learns the names of all basic mafias. They are also converted to village. When investigated, they show up as a basic mafia. They do not know that they are a rat. This is mainly for village-cult style games. The ones where mafia don't know each other. |

The employees could be anyone. Vanilla, maf, PR, whoever. They would probably know they're employed, but not by whom. Faceless authority and all that jazz. Plus, that way, it makes things a bit more challenging. And the fact that an alliance is possible would make you think twice about automatically voting with him, if you did know. And thanks! I actually thought that up in about five seconds, so I'm glad you think the inspiration was good @PSN: Does the Rat learn they're the Rat once they're converted? Otherwise it's kind of a silly role. Great idea, though. Kinda reminds me of the Sevirus Snape role in the Harry Potter game. |

Wanted Man Alliance: 3rd Party. Power: All votes against the Wanted Man count double. Can't be killed at night. Wins when he survives until the end of the game, If the Wanted Man wins the game, all other factions lose, regardless of what happened earlier. --- Graverobber Alliance: Mafia/3rd Party Power: As long as the Graverobber is alive, roles are not revealed upon death, except to the Graverobber. --- The Intrigant Alliance: 3rd Party. Power: During the day phase, whenever a person claims a role, the Intrigant can counter-claim. If he is not lynched at the end of the day, he will gain two powers: - Until he counterclaims again, all investigation results targeting him will come up as the role he counter-claimed. - He is allowed to kill a single person, the following night. The Intrigant wins together with the mafia. |

The Alchemist Alliance: Probably Village or third party. Power: Creates a potion and gives it to a player during the night phase. During the next day phase, the potion wielder can choose to drink the potion or to throw the potion at another player, giving his target the effects. The Alchemist can make different kinds of potions. -Healing Potion: protects the user from death for 1 day and night phase. -Poison Potion: kills the target in after one day and night phase. (Will be cured if visited by the doctor in that time.) Recipients of the potion will not know what kind of potion they received. There could essentially be many different potions people could come up with, I just used the first that came to my head. Oh and a touch up on my previous Necromancer idea. Perhaps he could sacrifice himself to bring another player back. MORE IDEAS. Edited by Nyon, Feb 19 2012, 07:36 PM.

Name: Skin Thief Alliance: 3rd Party Ability: The skin thief begins the game as a normal villager. However, if the skin thief would be killed during the night, they switch roles with their attacker and kill them instead. For example, if the skin thief would be shot by a vigilante, the old vigilante dies as a normal villager, and the skin thief becomes the new hunter. The skin thief may do this multiple times per game. The skin thief may be lynched normally. The skin thief wins if they survive until the end of the game. |

Maybe the "Mercy Killer" could be a third-party,with a name variant on Jack the Ripper. After all, he killed those who wouldn't be missed much, and so does this role The third-party is just because its kind of a Serial Killer variant, but could win by lasting to the end of the game. Wouldn't it be ironic, though, if the Mercy Killer was inactive? |

OOH OOH OOH I HAD AN IDEA Name: Memory Adept Alliance: 3rd Party Ability: Once per night, can select two people. If they are of the same alliance (Both village or mafia), then they swap roles until the Memory Adept dies. The Memory Adept wins and leaves the game when all power roles are either dead or have a different role to the one they started with. In this scenario, they keep the changed roles. Thoughts? (also, I give permission for anyone to use this if they want) |

Two questions: 1. Do they random someone each night? Or, after night 2, do they choose who they attack? 2. If the Doc/Shink visit them after night 2, are they still cured? Or is there something else? My only problem with the role is that, since they leave and the game continues, it would be "Hey I'm Beast, Doc on me tonight so I win please" and then that's that. If they already won, being in the game still as a villager would be pointless. Maybe have them not win, but just revert to villager if cured? Then they regain village win conditions, and my problems are solved. |

Okay, reverting to normal villager seems fair enough. That's what I was leaning towards anyway. 1. After Night Two, they random someone for every consecutive night. (So, they randomly kill on Night 3, Night 4, etc.) 2. They are only cured if the RNG sentences them to kill themselves or the Doc and Shrink. The Doc/Shrink visiting them does nothing, but if they visit the Doc/Shrink, they are cured. I hope I explained that well enough. Any other questions? |

The Mute - Town Aligned The Mute is, quite obviously, mute, and because of this they can't say anything in the day phase except place a vote. They can however, use actions such as *point at (Insert Username Here)*. There is a bonus to this of course, in that they've learned to use different methods to communicate, and they can read people based on their actions and how they speak. Once per DAY phase they can investigate someone and discover their alignment. Now even I know this role is underpowered, but I'm really interested in the idea of a mute role, but I'm not too sure what other positive I can give it to make it balanced. EDIT: Derp, must have missed this XD sorry for making you have to merge them Aviana. Edited by Brodioh, Mar 30 2014, 12:48 PM.

I think the problem with this role is that it quickly becomes obvious as to who is mute, so the maf can easily kill them. However, it does give the village someone to claim to. |
