Nothing But Cops
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8661641&t=10010990This was my first game. I remember looking at the games that were up at the time and thinking that my goal for my first game was to make a setup that would make people think to themselves, "This looks unique. I'll join it." I guess that's kind of how I am now, too, actually. I guess you could say that my first attempt at this didn't succeed, as I only got nine sign ups, but I made it work.
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8662364&t=10010990The concept itself was alright. Unlike the four cops and four villagers game (Which I didn't know about, to be fair), every village player was a cop in this game, leading to a decent amount of confusion. It required village to cooperate despite knowing that the mafia would be able to freely lie to them the whole time.
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8663934&t=10010990And then... That happened. I forgot to actually post the mafia kill in the thread, and ruined the slim chances mafia had by that point as a result. Yeah, that kind of ruined my mood for like a week, I remember. Luckily, I managed to be a lot more careful next time.
WarioWare Mafia
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8667044&t=10028054After regaining my confidence and coming up with a passable gimmick for a game, I tried my hand at hosting again. This time, the name of the game is people constantly changing their roles. The idea was to once again generate discussion due to lack of a good clear.
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8668052&t=10028054It had some discussion, but not really as much as I would have liked. Eventually, the Mafia just took over and village lost.
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8668110&t=10028054One thing I found was a problem was that village had four PRs, and mafia had 3. Due to the nature of the rotation, everyone in the village ended up being a PR exactly once unless they died early on, while the mafia got to be a PR just about every phase.
Overall, even though I didn't make any mistakes, I think this game actually went
worse than the last one. Still, I can look back on it, see what went wrong, and make sure not to do that again.
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8667472&t=10028054The game also had the most well-written flavor I've ever done.
Sandbox Unleashed
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8674239&t=10056362This time, the gimmick of the game was more of a gimmick on myself than on the game itself; Every role is something taken from the sandbox/suggested areas of Epicmafia's role database. Overall, I think the setup looks very balanced.
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8674259&t=10056362However, this was during the dark times of scumhunt where everyone went inactive and forgot to play games.
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8676534&t=10056362This game was also the dawn of the Wizard and Grammar Nazi, two roles which would go on to be used in games hosted by not me while all the other roles disappeared into nonexistence. I feel like finding those two roles was my big accomplishment in this game.
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8674898&t=10056362Though the Nazi led to stuff like this.
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8676909&t=10056362In the end, village was less active, mafia was more active, and people generally listen to more active people.
As a host, I feel like I did nothing wrong in this game, so there's that at least. I feel like I want to host another one of these sometime because the end result did bring about two roles that people enjoyed, but every time I check epicmafia's role sections I just can't find anything that doesn't suck.
Anonymous Account Test Game
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8677526&t=10068494A while before this game started, I had put a thread in Game Discussion about the possibility of forum accounts handling anonymous posting roles in games. People generally didn't see any deal-breaking problems with the idea, and eventually A. Nonymous and B. Nonymous were born. Since I was enthusiastic about the idea, having come up with it and all, I was the one who ended up hosting a game to test them out to their fullest extent. Of course, with a big development like this, lots of people showed up to take part. Well, only 14, but that's above average for my games.
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8677979&t=10068494Jessi helped sort out any issues that were had with the anons throughout, such as changing the passwords and helping to fix any other sorts of problems.
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8679459&t=10068494The test itself went fine. We got to test it for Crier and Lightkeeper, which were the big two that this was made for, as well as the Jailer, which was kind of a bonus I threw in to see if it'd work.
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8681590&t=10068494However, the problem for this game was not the accounts, but the absurd amount of inactivity the game carried throughout. Mafia was on the verge of winning, but we just didn't think it would be worthwhile to finish it when they were being just as inactive as village, except for Day who did pretty well.
The anons haven't been used much since, but that's more because anonymous roles aren't used much in general.
Charades
Verbal Tics
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8698517&t=10169178With Charades finished not long ago, I had been thinking about the gimmick. I thought to myself, it wasn't very conducive to intelligent gameplay, and ended up being a generic village sweep.
Then I came up with a better posting-rules gimmick while trying to get to sleep and then I hosted it as soon as I woke up.
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8698873&t=10169178Tic: Start every sentence with the letter I.This gimmick was a lot more interesting. It required each player to post differently, and overall things were a lot more lively than in Charades. I feel I did a good job designing this.
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8698950&t=10169178Tic: Every post can only be one sentence in length, via short or run-on sentences.Unfortunately, most players started using
this strategy. What seemed like a neat way to hide your tic ended up making each tic impossible to guess. Since actually guessing people's tics was a part of the game, it didn't go very well. Especially for Beams, who got completely screwed over.
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Scumhunt/single/?p=8700694&t=10169178I think Draco explained this better than I can. This would be by far the best way to fix the problem in future renditions of this gimmick, if I ever decide to do this again.
