'AIGHT PEEPZ LET'S DO THIS
So after reading Avianna's concept for a Steven Universe Mafia where roles could fuse, I had an idea since I was watching a lot of Digimon recently, there are many characters that could fit normal Mafia roles, and then I realized...EVOLUTION, Evolution (or Digivolution in the dub) in Digimon is different from Pokémon, I mean, Digimon can evolve permanently, but only after a long time of training and stuff, however, through Digivices, Digimon can evolve to stronger forms instantly! ...For a short period of time, I thought how interesting it would be if each role could be upgraded temporarily in the game, that would add another layer of strategy, so I decided to write my ideas down in this thread!
Note that many concepts are prone to change and I'd love to see feedback on this in order to tune this weird concept for the better!
Anyhow, let's start with a few things that don't really have to do with roles:
- Every Digimon starts with a...thing that allows them to evolve, i'm not sure what it is, I was thinking of making it an Evolution Card like the one in Tamers but it could also be a Digivice, but that's mostly for flavour purposes so it's not too important, this item allows them to evolve at any Phase (unless the role indicates it can only evolve in a specific Phase) by sending the PM to the host. - When a Digimon evolves, it is not said who evolved, it just says "[Player] has Evolved/Digivolved!" if it is in the Day Phase, if it was in the Night Phase then it will say basically the same thing except saying "evolved in the last Night Phase" when the Day Phase starts. - Every Digimon (except for Impmon) can Evolve just once per game unless Culumon uses his Light of Evolution, which can force any Digimon to Evolve regardless of whether they used up their Evolution or not, or unless one of the few lucky Vanillagers who start with an evolutionary item choose to give it to them.
And now let's move onto....THE ROLES! As always, they're rough concepts, open for feedback, y'know the drill.
ROLES VILLAGE Basically, a gang of Digimon from File City who oppose the Digimon Kaiser and his gang of evil Digimon in order to protect File City.
*Agumon (Sheriff): Can use his Baby Burner/Pepper Breath attack in the Day Phase to scorch anyone who he thinks is an evil-doer, however, since a gigantic flame is quite noticeable, this will give away who did it. (Evolves into: Greymon (under normal circumstances), Virus MetalGreyMon (if Digimon Kaiser puts an Evil Spiral on him while still alive), SkullGreymon (if an Evil Spiral is on him after the Digimon Kaiser is dead), WarGreymon/Omegamon (+ WereGarurumon, special circumstance)).
*Gabumon (Modified (and ToS-inspired) Vigilante): Every night, can choose to sneak near another player and kill them using Hidden Knock/Hidden Punch, however, if they hit another Village role, they will be too ashamed to do anything the next Night (but will be able to do stuff again in the Night Phase after that). (Evolves into: Garurumon, WereGarurumon/Omegamon (+ WarGreymon, special circumstance)).
*Piyomon (Hooker): Every night can choose to use Charming Tweety to charm another player, distracting them from performing their Night Action. (Evolves into: Birdramon).
*Palmon (Veteran): Can choose to go on alert 3 times in the entire game, if anybody visits her when she is on alert, she will use Very Stinky Stench in order to blow out a poisonous fume that will kill whoever visits her. (Evolves into: Togemon).
*Culumon (New Role: Evolutioner): Can choose to use his Light of Evolution power to make a Digimon evolve regardless of whether they used up their Evolution or not, can do this twice per game, there's also a special circumstance if both Agumon and Gabumon try to Evolve in the same Phase that doesn't count towards the 2 Light of Evolutions, but that will go in the Evolutions spoiler. (Can't Evolve!)
*Tailmon/Gatomon (Modified Doctor): Can choose to use her Holy Ring to protect a player from death for a Night Phase. Once the Digimon Kaiser dies and the Evil Spiral gets lost in the hands of Village, if Tailmon protects a player whose holding an Evil Spiral, the Evil Spiral will be destroyed. (Evolves into: Angewomon).
*More PRs that I haven't come up with yet.
*In-Training/Baby II Level Digimon (Vanillager): You're still not a full-fledged Child-Level Digimon like the other PRs, so you can't do much, however, you're still willing to help with discussion and lynching in the Day Phase! However, a few of these Baby II Digimon (AKA a small amount of players) will start the game holding an evolutionary item! They can't use it themselves, but if a Digimon uses up their evolutionary item, they can choose to give it to them, unlike Culumon's Light of Evolution which forces a Digimon to evolve, this is like giving them a second option to evolve, however they don't learn the role of the person they give the item to, meaning that they could accidentally give it to a Mafia member! If you want, you can PM me with a Baby II/In-Training Digimon you'd like to show up as upon death, it's okay if you don't. (Can't Evolve!) MAFIA Digimon Kaiser has assigned a gang of devious Digimon in order to destroy the guardians of File City and take over! What Digimon are in this gang? Weeelll...
*Digimon Kaiser (Modified Godfather): Only human in the game (that's just flavour though), shows up as Villager in investigations, and can only die by lynch, each Night he can choose to investigate a Digimon at the cost of not nightkilling anybody that Night, and can choose to put an Evil Spiral on a player every Night. If he attempts to put an Evil Spiral on a role that isn't Agumon, then that person will be informed that the Digimon Kaiser attempted to put an Evil Ring on them but backed out at the last moment, if he chooses wrong too many times he will be revealed to Village, however, if he selects Agumon successfully, Agumon will be converted into Mafia and be forcibly evolved into Virus MetalGreymon (there's also a special circumstance if Agumon receives an Evil Spiral after the Digimon Kaiser is killed, but more on that in the Evolution spoiler and Item list). (...He's a human, of course he can't evolve!).
*Malicious Champion/Adult-Level Digimon (Mafioso): You despise File City for whatever reason and joined the Digimon Kaiser's evil gang, every night you can vote between yourselves on who to kill for the Night Phase! Just like with the In-Training/Baby II Digimon, you can choose to send me a PM with any Champion/Adult Digimon you wish to show up as, but it's okay if you don't, then i'll just randomize one for you. (Can't Evolve!). *Many Mafia PRs (of course). (Will be able to Evolve).
*Impmon (Modified Thief): An annoying little Digimon who just seeks Evolution but can't evolve on his own since he has no evolution item, at the start of the game he is given a random role, he must find out what player that role belongs to and visit them during the night in order to steal their evolution item, allowing them evolve into the powerful Beelzebumon, then he will de-evolve and be given another random role. When he steals a Digimon's evolution item, that Digimon will be blocked out of evolution in that same Phase, but will be able to use it again in the next Phase. Impmon can technically steal any Digimon's evolution item, blocking them from evolution for that Night Phase, but can only evolve if he steals the correct evolutionary item. Impmon is one of the few Digimon who can evolve more than once due to how difficult it is for him to evolve. Apart from stealing the evolutionary item, Impmon can also steal the Evil Spiral once it gets lost in File City after the Digimon Kaiser dies, once he does it will be destroyed. (Evolves into: Beelzebumon). THIRD PARTY Just some third party Digimon involved in the feud for File City for their own personal reasons.
*Dorumon (Viral + Fool): Has a grudge against the Royal Knight Omegamon, and thus wants to kill both Agumon and Gabumon, the main components of Omegamon, can investigate someone every Night Phase in order to find their role and shows up as Village in investigations. Dorumon's killing abilities are only present when he evolves and he can only evolve through Death Evolution, achieved by being lynched, as soon as he kills Gabumon and Agumon the game ends with him as victorious. (Evolves into: Alphamon).
And those are just the base roles, now for the main gimmick of the game: Evolutions!
EVOLUTIONS *Greymon (Evolves from: Agumon under normal circumstances) (Better Sheriff + Bulletproof): Can choose to scorch up to 2 players during the daytime with his powerful Mega Flame without revealing himself, and use Fire Wall to stop enemy attacks headed towards him for either the same Night Phase (if he evolves during the Night Phase) or the next Night Phase (if he evolves during the Day Phase).
*Virus Metal Greymon (Evolves from: Agumon if the Digimon Kaiser puts an Evil Spiral on him whilst still alive) (Mafia Sniper + 2-shot Mafia Vigilante): Can choose to obliterate one player during the daytime with his powerful Giga Destroyer without revealing himself, and can use his powerful Trident Arm to kill a player at Night, however, he can only do this 2 times.
*SkullGreymon (Evolves from: Agumon if he receives an Evil Spiral after the Digimon Kaiser dies) (Modified Serial Killer + ToS Werewolf (Third Party)): After the Digimon Kaiser dies, the Evil Spiral gets lost in File City, ending up in the hands of a random Digimon and jumping from hand to hand until Tailmon or Impmon destroy it, or...it ends up with Agumon, who then permanently Dark Evolves into SkullGreymon and, unable to be tamed since the Digimon Kaiser is dead, chooses to instead just go wild on a rampage. Each Night he can choose to murder someone in their home (unless they get unlucky and hit Palmon while she is on alert) and anyone who visits them (with the exception of Gabumon who will kill SkullGreymon at the cost of his own life), SkullGreymon's wincon is to kill a certain amount of PRs in both Village and Mafia (depends on the amount of players, though i'm thinking 2 from each side).
*Garurumon (Evolves from: Gabumon) (Better Modified Vigilante + ???): So far, I haven't fully completed this idea yet, so suggestions would be appreciated, the only thing I know for sure is that it would remove the "can't do anything for the next Night out of shame if he hits a Villager" thing.
*Omegamon (Evolves from: WarGreymon + WereGarurumon, special circumstance) (Modified Town Crier + Bulletproof + Sheriff + Vigilante/Strongman): If Gabumon and Agumon send their evolution PMs to the host around the same time/while the other is still evolved, the host will PM Culumon with Gabumon and Agumon's planned actions and ask them if he wants to let them do what they plan to do or if they want to turn Gabumon and Agumon into Omegamon, if he chooses the latter option the host will contact Agumon and Gabumon and will let them know who the other role is and allow them to communicate outside of the game, as well as make them anonymous by making them use a special anonymous account (similar to when LightKeeper dies) that represents Omegamon, apart from that they will be able to choose someone to shoot in the Day Phase and someone to kill in the Night Phase, the Night Phase kill is guaranteed to go through regardless of protection, including Palmon's alert state (unless the target is protected by Angewomon) and Omegamon is protected from any nightkills for that night and that night only.
*Birdramon (Evolves from: Piyomon) (Nurse + Surgeon): Can only Evolve at Night. Birdramon chooses a player to protect for a Night Phase, protecting them from dying that Night but roleblocking them at the same time, if anybody tries to visit Birdramon or the protected, they will be killed by Birdramon's powerful Meteor Wing.
*Togemon (Evolves from: Palmon) (Veteran + ???): When Palmon evolves into Togemon it automatically becomes on alert (without counting towards Palmon's 3 alert nights) and...Well, I haven't thought of much beyond that, the boxing cactus thing has many options but i'm not sure which ones would fit her the most.
*Angewomon (Evolves from: Tailmon) (Better Doctor + Vigilante?): Can only Evolve at Night. Angewomon chooses two players, the first is protected from any nightkills for that Night Phase (including Strongman kills) with Heaven's Charm while the second (along with the first if the protected turns out to be evil) is targeted with Saint Air, which will kill it and/or the protected Digimon if any of them is evil or a Third Party, if the protected Digimon survives (meaning that it's Village), it will be immune to lynching/Sniper shots in the next Day Phase. (Please some feedback on this one in particular? I'm not too sure if it would be balanced, though do remember that when a Digimon evolves it says the player did but not the role, meaning that if Angewomon claims that her protected is Village, people may not believe her unless they waste a lynch on the target just to find out).
*Beelzebumon (Evolves from: Impmon) (Strongman + Bulletproof): Can only Evolve at Night after Impmon steals the correct evolutionary item that he needs in order to evolve. Beelzebumon can choose one person to kill at night with his powerful Double Impact attack, which goes through any protection (including Palmon's alert state) except Angewomon's Heaven's Charm and is immune to any nightkills for that Night Phase.
*Alphamon (Evolves from: Dorumon) (2-bullet Vigilante + Viral): Dorumon can only evolve into Alphamon through Death Evolution, which can only be achieved if he's lynched, after which he will automatically turn into Alphamon in the following Night and gain the ability to kill 2 people for that Night, if he manages to kill both Agumon and Gabumon then his power will spiral out of control and he'll evolve further into Death-X-Mon, killing everybody else and thus ending the game with himself as the only winner. However, if he fails to kill both of them, he will de-evolve back into Dorumon and die.
And now finally, the Item List....which only contains 2 items but explains the Evil Spiral mechanic a lot better.
ITEMS *Evolutionary item: Allows a PR Digimon to evolve, every PR Digimon only has one and after they use it up they can't evolve again unless Culumon forces them to evolve through Light of Evolution, or they receive another evolutionary item asa gift from one of the few Baby II/In-Training Digimon who have them. Evolutions are temporary except for Virus MetalGreymon and SkullGreymon, which are permanent evolutions. Can be stolen by Impmon during the Night, which doesn't take away the evolutionary item forever but disallows evolution for that Night Phase and that Night Phase only.
*Evil Spiral: At the beginning, it's just an item held by the Digimon Kaiser that he's attempting to put on Agumon, if he fails and selects the wrong Digimon too many times he will be caught by Village and his name will be announced, but if he is succesful Agumon will Dark Evolve into Virus MetalGreymon and convert to the mafia permanently! However, if the Digimon Kaiser selects Tailmon the Evil Spiral will be destroyed by the Holy Ring she holds, so he has to be careful. Once the Digimon Kaiser is lynched by Village, the Evil Spiral will be lost in File City and fall into the hands of a random Baby II/In-Training Digimon (who will be informed they have it) in the Night Phase after the Digimon Kaiser's lynch, and at the end of the Night Phase after that, the item will be lost again and will be given to a completely random non-Mafia role once more (though this time it may fall into the hands of a PR or a Third Party), the process will repeat until Impmon steals the Evil Spiral back, Tailmon destroys it, or it falls into the hands of Agumon, after which the Evil Spiral will forcibly evolve him into SkullGreymon since he can't be tamed by the now-dead Digimon Kaiser, SkullGreymon is a terrible and horrifying force for both Mafia, Dorumon and Village, since his wincon is to kill PRs from both sides and as soon as he does this he leaves the game, which is bad for Dorumon.
So, as said above this is very much an experimental set-up and it's probably quite unbalanced (hell, there are a few roles that I still haven't decided on), but I think what's here so far explains the concept pretty well so i'd like some feedback on it all, do note that I will continue to update this thread as I get more/better ideas.
