Basically, Roll to Dodge is a forum game played on many forums-for example, I am hosting one over on Pikurei, and raikairu is hosting one over at Nuzlocke. What it is is a 'RP' of sorts, except that every action you do is determined by the host (me, lets say) rolling a six-sided die. If I roll a 1 for your action, then EPIC FAIL-The absolute opposite happens (eg: You attempt to eat a cheesecake, but the one you find is in fact mutated and eats you instead) If I roll a 2, then you fail the action (eg: You drop the cheesecake on the ground, meaning that you cannot eat it) If I roll a 3, then you succeed the action, but get a penalty applied (eg: You eat it, but it gets stuck in your throat halfway down. -1 to your next roll) If I roll a 4, then you succeed. (eg: You eat the cheesecake) If I roll a 5, then you succeed and get a bonus applied. (eg: You eat the cheesecake. Turns out it was enchanted. +1 to your next roll) If I roll a 6, then you get overkill. (eg: You find 10 cheesecakes, and eat them all) Of course, that isn't all of it. If you would be affected by ANY negative effect, then you may roll to dodge it. For example, imagine you are being stabbed. 1-You take the sword to the face. You are dead. 2-You almost dodge it, but take the sword to the chest. You are seriously wounded, and will die if next turn, you roll a dodge roll of 3 or less. 3-You take the sword to the knee. You suffer a -1 to your roll next turn. 4-You dodge the sword. 5-You dodge it with such style that the gods applaud you and give you a +1 to your next roll. 6-You counter the blow. The offending player, if a user, will have to roll to dodge. If an NPC, then they are instantly defeaten. Now, why am I posting this in discussion instead of just setting this up? See, this would be a great 'Every Man For Himself' style game. However, I'm wondering if there is a way to make it more 'mafia-y'. So, any help please? Or should I just host this now? |

Well, one thing you could do, is create powers for each and every player. Each of these would then have six possible outcomes regarding the effect of the power. For instance: Fortune Teller - Investigate one person every night. 1 - You fail horribly, and the person you investigated, will receive a PM detailing your identity instead. 2 - You fail, and therefore, your attempt is nullified. You receive nothing at all. 3 - You fail only slightly, and the result of the investigation is changed to a random power role. 4 - You succeed, and receive a PM detailing their role. 5 - You succeed with such marvel that you receive not only their role, but also a +1 on your next action. 6 - A magical power has taken a hold of you, and thus, you are able to research with vigor. You receive a PM regarding the player's role, targets for the following night, target of the past night and potential partners. Nothing, not even outside force, is capable of stopping your amazing power. Using such a model for every class, you should be able to come up with something special for each role. |
