So me and Letter started making a Little Busters mafia game, i've posted various bits of it in skype but i figured i'd post it here for critique/balancing if possible. Village roles Mafia roles Third party Mafia wins when Riki and Masato die, village wins when mafia and Masato die, Masato wins when everyone alive is doing muscle revolution Village cannot win if Riki and Rin are dead. Also let me know if anything's confusing or whatever so I can fix Edited by Magellan, Apr 10 2013, 05:26 AM.

Mafia seems really damn powerful, but if Village organises, I don't see Mafia winning. Aka, the roles seem so overpowered. :T Hell, maybe it's worth a go to see how it goes. Since all the roles are so powerful, it'll end up being very skill based I suppose. |

Looks like the entire early game hinges on whether: A. Rin finds another girl B. Komari lives up to that point Otherwise, Riki'd have to choose between being safe or getting an investigation. also add a short bio of each character (like a sentence or two) for the uninformed |

Nerfed village a little, changed some of the wording and reworked Komari and Lennon's roles. I can add in more characters if enough people were to join it, but I think this is good as an up to 16/17 player game currently. Tempted to add another 3rd party role but ehh. I'll add in bios/pictures/flavor etc. for the actual game whenever I post it so like ya critique and stuff pleaseee |

Is Masato's conversion announcement necessary? Mostly this looks interesting, that was just the part I was wondering about. |

Well there was two ways I could go about it - but I figured without the announcement it would be too easy for Masato to take out bigger roles. For example, if Masato converted Mio first night, she could easily claim in the thread and learn all of villages roles with no counterclaims, and set it up so Masato would have knowledge of all the villages PRs. I think revealing which role got converted lessens that - they can still pass on any knowledge they have, but they can't add any additional info as no one will claim to them, knowing that they're on Masato's side now. so yeahhh that's what i chose to show which role converted. oh and updated op with win conditions. should be ready now i think |

That's possible, but a lot of what happens with conversion roles usually is CAN WE TRUST THIS GUY ANY MORE OR NOT whereas if that announcement is in play we never have to wonder if an established PR is still on our side any more. I mean, I dunno, I've never been much a conversion person anyway so I can probably be ignored. |

Since the conversion ability doesn't pass on to someone else once Misato dies, I think it might be a bit rough on Misato to keep the number of converts he needs to win alive if the role of who he gets is announced. The mafia will know who it is right away, and the village should too after they organize.

To be honest, I see this role as less of conversion and more of a killing role... that doesn't actually kill, if that makes sense. There's no point in lynching a convert as they provide nothing - no votes, no killing, no actions. They're essentially just numbers
He doesn't really need to keep them alive, they're effectively all meatshields for him. I don't really see how the mafia would know who he is right away, the village would have a better chance of knowing after organization, but Masato can really mess with their organization. |

The only problem that I can see with this game is that it might just develop into 'Lets drag this game out as long as possible and get as many people converted so they can all win!' |

I was speaking about the mafia knowing who was converted right away. He kind of does need to keep them alive, because if the converts keep getting killed off or lynched instead of normal roles, then Masato isn't making any progress. He's just getting more and more exposed. The converts not having votes that count is interesting, but it also means that there's never going to be a tipping point number of converts where their faction can do something about the lynch. Don't get me wrong, having extra voices in the thread can be a powerful thing, but there's no point at which he's "safe", which is going to make actually winning with Masato very difficult, especially because he needs everyone down to the last man and not just a majority. Right now, it seems like the most likely way that things are going to turn out is that Masato is going to convert either a large number of village roles, or a large number of mafia roles, and will then get killed or lynched by the remaining 2-3 people that still have votes and whichever faction gets screwed over less will win.Actually, the converts not having a vote stops this. Masato is still perfectly lynchable as long as there's two unconverted people alive. Edit: I'm getting long and rambly. Basically, Masato has enough of a handicap already because he can never control the lynch. I don't think he needs the added handicap of his target's role being announced. Eh. That sounds pretty boring. And one mafia kill could completely revoke that, not to mention Kyousuke can't be converted and thus would want to kill Masato.
Hrm. Okay. I do see your point now. I might try it this way and see if it changes. Alternatively, I was thinking of changing Masato's win conditions to having 50 or 75% of alive people converted, but keeping the role reveal. That way, the village/mafia can't just stall out Masato by killing his conversions, they'd actually have to kill him. Like cutting the heads off a hydra. Ughh maybe I'm just over confusing this. Okay, I'm going to change his win condition to 75% of alive village converted (which also answers PSN's point as not everyone could win whilst being converted), and take away the role reveal. I think with that he has a decent enough chance of winning the game solo and becomes a higher priority target than before. I've updated Rin's role to show whether or not someone is converted, too, which provides the village with a counter. Mafia has Kyousuke to deal with him as he cannot be converted and causes Masato to skip a turn if he is converted. Masato can still win if Kyousuke is alive due to winning with 75% of village converted. Thank you guys for the feedback, going to do a few quick test games on paper and see if this is okay. Edit: Okay, test games are done. Results were that Mio is too safe and annoying to kill due to the fact she can reveal upon death, this has been removed. Riki also now cannot stay with the same person 2 nights in a row, as it lead to him being compeltely unkillable once village was organized. I did 5 rough test games, with random results for actions on night one and worked from there. Village won 3 times, Mafia once, and Masato once, which I'm okay with, but Masato and Mafia's wins felt... very lucky (Mafia won as Mio got converted and Rin died night one, Masato won as Mafia took out Kurugaya and Rin early, then village kept hitting classmates) Masato is still the hardest person to win as but it's a lot easier than it was before, and can come down to his skill and who he targets.
