So, I don't know if anyone's seen the anime Samurai 7 (or the original film Seven Samurai), but I thought it might make for a pretty cool game setup. I typed out a list of roles and their descriptions, but, seeing as I've never hosted before, I wanted to get some input before jumping into things. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Roles Village: Samurai and Farmers
Kambei: The first of the Seven Samurai, and the leader. Because he has fought the Nobuseri before, he has very keen perception on picking out enemies from a crowd. Very influential, and can send the whole town a message during the Day as often as he would like, anonymously. (Town Crier) Gorobei: The Second Samurai. A veteran of the Great War, he is skilled at dodging blows, and is even known to pick projectiles out of the air. Because of his nimble feet, he can avoid being killed once, either lynch or nightkill. (Bulletproof) Heihachi: The Third Samurai. An engineer during the Great War, he now uses his skills to chop wood or build medieval siege weapons. He hates himself for betraying his squad during the Great War. Once per game, he can investigate a person at night and determine if they are the Traitor (who would otherwise show up as Village). (Custom) Shichiroji: The Fourth Samurai. Kambei’s right-hand man, he wields a spear instead of a sword. Cannot be converted. Anyone that tries to convert Shichiroji will be killed in the process. (Samurai) (Note: The kill is kind of poinless in this setup, because the only conversion role is the yakuza, but I figured I'd say what the role does anyway) Katsushiro: The Fifth Samurai. Aspires to be a great samurai like Kambei, but wavers when delivering the final blow. However, everyone wants to see him succeed. If Katsushiro is lynched, no one can be killed the next night for whatever reason. (Virgin) Kyuzo: The Sixth samurai. Though he fully intends to best Kambei in a duel and kill him at the end of the war, he sees the need to protect Kanna Village. Each night, he can target a player and kill them. (Vigilante) Kikuchiyo: The Seventh Samurai. Originally ostracized for being too abrasive and “unskilled”, he eventually joins the group, because he recognizes the farmers’ plight. Each night, he can choose someone to protect. If they are targeted that night, he has an equal chance of protecting that person or dying in their place. (Bodyguard) Kirara: The Water Priestess. With her dowsing crystal, she can see into others’ hearts. Each night, she can investigate a player and find out their alignment. (Cop) Shino: Manzo’s daughter. Unfortunately for her, her father’s traitorous tendencies have led everyone to believe that she is aligned with the Nobuseri or the Emperor. When investigated at night, she will turn up as Mafia. (Miller) Farmer: Typical residents of Kanna Village, they can vote on who to lynch in the Day Phase. (Villager)
Mafia: The Government and Nobuseri Ukyo: The soon-to-be Emperor. He is manipulative and conniving, but manage to play it off like an innocent. When investigated, he will turn up as Village. (Godfather) Tessai: Ukyo’s bodyguard. His fighting skills are almost unmatched, which makes him quite influential. Once per game, he can kill himself in order to convert another player to Mafia. (Yakuza) Amanushi: The current Emperor. Though many resent his heavy-handed rule, few dare oppose him. With his extensive harem of women, he has the power to send one of his "companions" to another player and cancel their action that night. (Hooker) Manzo: A farmer only looking out for his own skin (and, he insists, his daughter’s). His purpose is to throw the village off track. Does not know who the Mafia is, and the Mafia does not know who he is. Though he appears as a villager when investigated, he only wins if the Mafia wins. (Traitor) Nobuseri: Bandits that have been torturing various villages at Ukyo’s bidding. No special powers, but they do get to vote on who to kill at night. (Goon)
Third Party Shikimoribito: Mysterious cave-dwellers who hold a vast amount of power cells. They tend to stay neutral in most things. However, one Shikimoribito (this role) feels the need to protect at least one person involved in this war. At the beginning of the game, they are given a player’s name (can be either Mafia or Village-sided). Once per game, they can choose to save their player either during the day or at night. They win if their player is alive at the end of the game. (Angel; did I explain that well enough?)
Again, any input is appreciated. I'm thinking I'll probably write flavor for this, too, if it gets ironed out. Thanks for looking!

Now, why go up there when people are dying to get down here?

Sort of looks to me like village might be way more powerful than the mafia. There's a lot of PRs for the village and they've got some pretty good ones while the mafia doesn't have anything too fantastic besides roles to let them hide out.
I like the flavor for the roles though. 10/10 would play.

Yeah, I was thinking it'd have to be a pretty big game, in order to give Mafia a few more people. Would adding a Hooker maybe help balance out the Village's power?

I think so, yeah. Then again I'm not sure how fantastic my balancing skills are.

So, I cleaned up some of the role descriptions (and made the Bodyguard more like the one in X-Men Mafia), as well as added the Hooker.
One question, though: If I were to start hosting this in the next couple of days, would it go in Epic Mafia, or Mafia Variants?

Mafia Variants, because there's a custom role.
