Roleplayer: Sayuri. Or Saya, if I give you leave. xD Literacy: Advanced Literate Name: Tokitsu Chisame Alias: Aoi, her alias, can be written to mean both "blue" (her signature color) or "hollyhock" (the flower featured in her tattoo) ; Chisa-san/Chisa-chan/Chisa-kun, depending on the speaker and Chisame's relationship to them. Chisame and her brother both share the nickname "Kitsune," due to their vivid hair and... exuberant... natures; it's a coincidence, though, and unrelated to their family name. Age: 19 Gender: Female Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Kin: Chisame doesn't really remember her birth parents, but the parents who raised her - Umino Jotaro and Madoka - are currently living in their Saitama fishing-village, aging but being safe as the area is far from the centers of conflict. Chisame's older brother, Tokitsu Shigeyuki, is currently on the road as a fellow bakuto by name of Enjiren, and their sibling relationship is closely guarded (because you never know about the enemies you meet along the way). Status: Very much single! Chisame likes people, and some people she likes a lot, but thus far she's never met anyone she'd be willing to settle down with. Sexuality: Bisexual, and quite happy with it! Though, while male homosexuality is tacitly accepted, Chisame's met quite a few people who've been less-than-approving of the idea of women being together. As far as Chisame's concerned, that's their loss. Loyalty: Herself, basically, though of course she cares very greatly for her family. Occupation: Kage-Ningyōtsukai, or traveling shadow-puppeteer; she's also a bakuto, or professional gambler, though she prefers to keep that under wraps. Height: 5'2"/160cm Weight: 101lbs/46kg Likes: Puppet-Theater ; Appreciative Crowds ; Kawaii Girls ; Kakkoi Guys; A Good Night At The Tables ; A Hot Night Between The Sheets ; Proving Someone Else Wrong ; Taiyaki ; Seafood ; Hair Accessories ; Hurting "Evil-Doers" Dislikes: Classless People ; Aristocracy ; Bad Rolls/Hands ; Keen-Eyed Spotters ; Underhanded People ; Umeboshi ; Salty Things In General ; Ukiyo-e ; Guys With Control Issues ; Having To Admit Her Ruse Before She's Ready ; People Ruining Her Good Kimono (They're Expensive Dammit!) Personality: Chisame is fully capable of appearing to be a calm, demure young woman, and she often assumes this persona when about in villages and towns; it tends to make her almost invisible, allowing her to blend with the crowd. Chisame's true personality is that of a cheerful and upbeat trickster, someone who sees herself as much more clever than everyone around her; this is sometimes true, but she has a tendency to overestimate herself and wind up in deep trouble. Chisame's acting talents come in handy, though, and she's often able to think her way out, though some of her escapes are clearly the will of the gods. Something of a romantic, Chisame expects that 'true love' will simply appear to her like a bolt out of the blue, and in the meantime she uses her bright-eyed, innocent charm to get under peoples' skin and make the best of now. She usually uses this talent to get people to give her things for cheap or for free-- However, she likes kids and her elderly parents cause her to have a soft spot for the aged. Oh, and she's a little vain, which leads her to spend considerable time on her appearance even when traveling. Habits: Chisame is almost always smiling, even when there's no cause; it's her default expression, though it manages not to be creepy. Her fingers, slender and deft from manipulating her puppets, are always tapping on surfaces or flexing as if they're stiff... It's sort of a nervous habit, and she also talks with her hands, gesturing emphatically or fluttering her fingers in demonstration. Her voice speeds up when she gets excited, sometimes pitching higher as well and making her sound younger than she is, and she occasionally uses more masculine pronouns such as boku as a result of growing up with her brother and living largely around men. Inventory: She carries a neat case on her back that unfolds into a miniature stage, as well as holding her shadow-puppets; an iron lantern usually hangs off the side of the case, to provide light as well as for use with the puppet-theater, and when she's traveling she usually carries a neatly-wrapped bento in her hand. Bound neatly to the top of the case so that it almost looks like one large package, a smaller container holds her toiletries and accessories as well as a needle and a spool of thread. When she has money, she sews it into the lining of her inner kimono, which is where she keeps her "spare" dice and deck of cards. Weaponry: Chisame utilizes the spools of steel thread from her puppet-theater as weapons; when secured to her fingers by the spooling metal rings at their tops, they easily detach from the puppets, pulling out to reveal weighted darts at the end of each eight-foot-long length. Chisame doesn't carry a sword, so she relies on the razor-wire and a number of colored smoke-bombs to defend herself in a fight, though in a pinch she can pull a tanto from her obi; she can also use her hairpins to stab and throw, though being very thin (if long) they can't do much damage unless they hit a vital spot. Ability: Um... See above? She couldn't turn razor-wire and hairpins into a viable combat-form if she didn't have exceptional accuracy and speed as well as agility. Also, she can make smoke-bombs, which come in handy (and can be sold if she's short on funds). Her primary defense is her ability to talk her way out of trouble, though-- If she's fighting, something's gone wrong, and her most-used tactic is to toss a smoke-bomb, strike in the smoke (her wire giving her a reach advantage) and run. Appearance: Chisame usually dresses to blend in, though during her performances she wears a fitted black uniform that obscures her face, similar to that of the stagehands in Noh theater or of puppeteers in bunraku. She favors shades of blue with highlights of green, and she carefully keeps her nails lacquered blue with a special polish she purchased from a geisha in Tokyo (though the initial bottle was a gift). When on the road, she often dresses in simple male clothing to avoid unwanted attention... Although sometimes that doesn't work. Although she's careful to keep it concealed unless she wants it otherwise, Chisame carries a tattoo that spreads across her left shoulder and over her back towards the spine: An exquisitely-detailed and delicately-rendered cluster of vivid blue hollyhocks with golden hearts, sprouting from amidst green leaves and interwoven vines. When displaying it, Chisame (often dramatically) doffs her sleeve, daringly revealing her sarashi as the hollyhocks bloom. Biography: Chisame was very, very young when her family experienced its greatest test: Though but a lowly branch-family of the powerful Hojo clan, the Tokitsu nonetheless possessed a valuable territory, and others were resorting to extreme measures to force the Lord and Lady of the Tokitsu to surrender their land. Chisame was the second child of Lord Tokitsu and his wife, and they feared for the safety of both their daughter and her older brother; knowing that their children, at least, must survive to continue their clan, the parents sent their children off to a far-away fishing village, escorted only by their most trusted retainer. Sometimes Chisame thinks that she might remember those harried times, even if it's only in her dreams, but who can say for sure? Chisame's earliest true memories are of growing up in the fishing-village at Saitama, in the case of a man and woman by the name of Umino, who raised the children as if they were her own. Shige - Shigeru, to others - learned the trade of the fisherman, while Chisame stayed at home and learned to help with a hundred other household tasks. But the young girl was imaginative and talkative, too easily distracted, until the day that a foreign ship docked in the harbor and brought ashore a man with a strange puppet-theater. He claimed to have learned the craft from a far-away island known as Jafa, and Chisame - fascinated - would not rest until she had convinced the man to show her how the shadow-puppets worked. Eventually her skill grew so impressive that, before his ship left, the man gave Chisame his puppets and told her that, where he was going, he wouldn't need them anymore. Chisame gained a large following among the other children of the village, even the older ones, for her skill in storytelling left even adults charmed; when her brother finally left Saitama, in search of his own destiny, Chisame already knew what she was meant to do. A few years later she tied up her hair and donned her brother's old clothes, taking only her few pretty trinkets and the puppets, in a lacquered case her father had labored over for her sake, and left as well. As she traveled, Chisame was fortunate enough to befriend various other female travelers, who taught her to defend herself and how to read the laws of the pathways; though the world was often dangerous, Chisame adapted well, and soon fell into the world of gaming as a quick way to make some traveling money. She proved to be talented at it and soon gained fame as Tobaku Otome Aoi [Gambling Woman Aoi], one of the few women who traveled the gaming circuit, yet Chisame's true calling was always the puppet theater, and many people have been left wondering at the mesmerizing power of the pretty youth and the enigmatic shadows. |
