Chayne gathered himself, and returned to his normal state of being - calm and collected... or at least he tried.

"Crowler's been trying to get a hold me, for something, I've yet to hear about," Chayne stated, then looking at his slightly bruised knuckles he continued. "Kuro's working on a thrashing, both in and outside of Duel Monsters, but it'll be for the best if I just get out of here, and take a step into the stadium"

Chayne looked at Crowler, "Would you please just text me, what you want to tell me, because I can't be in this area, anymore, for the sake of my stay in the academy."

Chayne brushed passed Saranto, and left Crowler with the other Obelisk Blue students. Without turning back, "Sorry Jay!" he exclaimed.

Jason had arrived to see Kuro running back to his room crying. "Wow he seems so sad," Jason thought to himself. Earlier that day he say Kuro as a jerk, but now he was starting to believe maybe he was just misunderstood. He waited there silently until everyone left then he gained the bravery to knock on Kuro's door. He was kind of panicked because Kuro was still an obelisk blue. He waited there silently after knocking, and hoped that he would come to the door. Jason assumed he was just to upset to talk so he began walking away. No Avatar

Narrator
Crowler didn't even let Chayne get an inch away.
"Chayne!" Crowler cut in, not even seeming concerned with what just happened with Kuro. "You're supposed to be at the stadium to duel! We talked about this, remember?!" Crowler was absolutely frantic. He didn't let Chayne get a chance to respond to that last sentence. "Come on!"
Crowler started to drag Chayne with him in the direction of the room where duelists prepared for duels in the stadium, but then stopped. "You do have your deck, right?"

Jayden
Jayden was appalled at Kuro tossing the cards at Chayne. The guy was crying, of all things.
The hell is wrong with that guy? Jayden thought. He wondered why Kuro was torn up like that, but he couldn't do much, not with Kuro locked up in his room. Chayne saw to that.
Speaking of which, Chayne, the poor guy, was getting dragged away now by Crowler, and it sounded like Chayne was supposed to be the one dueling the Egyptian. Maybe he'll get to see that Agents deck sooner then he thought.
Jayden looked back at the Ra Yellow who rattled off all those questions to him, and he just now realized he was the same Ra Yellow who asked to watch Kuro and Jayden duel.
"I don't think we really introduced ourselves," Jayden said, just really trying to be friendly and break in his new life at the Academy. "Name's Jayden. What's yours?"

(Does Kuro seriously have a room right in the Duel Academy and not at the Obelisk Blue dorms, or am I missing something?)

Sora watches as the events with the torn up cards unfolds and sees Kuro run back to his room. He was going to step out in front of him to stop him but decided against it. It's best if he stayed out of these sort of affairs after he was kicked out of the academy so many years ago for a crime he didn't commit.

He was glad his luck had finally turned around and that we was able to rejoin. He wanted nothing more than to duel and defeat everyone with his brand new deck. His new partner Apocalypse was incredibly unique and powerful. He walked confidently to the stadium, feeling ready to take on anyone.

Feeling better, Kuro stepped out of his room and walked back to the academy. He thought it over and decided that little scene wasn't needed, but before long, he returned back to his old egotistical self. Even though everyone still hated his guts, they can't seem to forget what happened with Kuro, but they know he must be doing these things for a reason. There must be a greater cause then just acting tough in front of everyone.

Kuro goes to apologize to Chayne and Jayden, but before that happened, he accidentally bumps into Jason. A guy who no one has heard speak since the beginning of the school year.

"Hey, watch it, kid! Can't you see I'm walking here?"

"I'm extremely s-s-sorry", Jason says in a really shaky voice. All of the courage he had left him at that moment. "It's just I saw you upset, and thought maybe you could use a friend", he says a little bit more calmer. I should be going now though. Jason walks away seeing Chayne being dragged away by Crowler. "Maybe it is about time for the first duel at the academy", he thinks to him self. "Hey. Blue guy can you direct me to the arena?", he asks Kuro. No Avatar

"F...friends? With a slypher?"

This is the first time anyone has shown compassion for Kuro. He was very pleased and happy with the friendship request. Thinking things through, though not very well, he tried to avoid the conversation as it was with a lower classed duelist.

"Heh, friends? You wish! Like i'll ever be friends with the likes of you!" "Though, the stadium is right through those double doors."

Jason knew the character of Kuro and took that response as a "sure, let's be friends" remark. This wouldn't be the last time the two see eye to eye.

He was kind of disappointed by Kuro's response, but he was expecting it. He knew deep down inside that Kuro was just hurting, but didn't want to lose his reputation. "Thanks anyways," he replies to Kuro. He walks right right out the doors. Jason started thinking a lot about Kuro for some odd reason. He knew Kuro was a very good dueler, and if he and Kuro became well enough friends maybe he could become better. Jason wasn't done with Kuro by a longshot. He'd hate to be that annoying person, but he was going to become friends with Kuro someway somehow. No Avatar

Ugh... damnit! Of all the things that can go wrong in the world, they ALL seem to be happening to me, right now.

"Yes," Chayne responded in protest. "I do have my deck ready, and there's no need to pull. I'm more than capable of walking." Chayne took control of himself, pulling away from Crowler's grip, and continued onward to the stadium. His mind was still a little too clouded to even think of dueling, but that's what makes a good duelist a stronger one. Gathering his thoughts, and pulling himself together, Chayne snapped into a different mindset.

Saranto had been so distracted by the recent happenings that he barely heard the Obelisk Blue standing next to him. "O-oh, my name's Saranto" he said, "Sorry for encouraging that other Obelisk Blue in the cafeteria, I was kind of excited about the possibility of seeing a duel. Speaking of which, do you know when the first duel is supposed to start? It's pretty soon, isn't it?"

Jayden
Jayden looked at the clock on the wall. He didn't know the exact time for the duel, but people don't hold events at 12:09 or 3:21 or anything funky like that. It was ten to seven, so considering the recent announcement, it had to be soon.
"I think it's gonna happen shortly," Jayden said. "C'mon, let's head to the stadium!" Jayden gestured for Saranto to come, and sprinted to the stadium.

Narrator
In the stadium itself, students started to enter in ones and twos and threes, until eventfully the students started to come in as a stream of red, yellow and blue. Soon, the stadium was mostly filled, and the intercom chimed back on.
"The duel will begin momentarily. The two duelists and the rules of the duel will be named shortly."
The massive scoreboard screen on the wall, where the specifics of the duel are usually shown, started to boot up, flashing a Sony logo and a Duel Academy logo as it loaded the program for the duel, white text scrolling quickly on a black background. It then flashed blue, then white, and then switched to a screensaver of an animated Duel Academy logo.
The chatter in the stadium started to quiet down as the lights of the stadium darkened, to the point where only the duel arena was brightly lit, and a man in a purple Duel Academy uniform--the headmaster--walked up onto and to the middle of the duel arena, with a microphone in hand. The man carried himself casually, not at all like the stiff stances some of the teachers had. He was bald, with circle-shaped glasses and a black beard, and he was shorter then average.
"How are you all doing today?" He spoke into the microphone. Some clapping was done to acknowledge him, and then suddenly someone shouted "Doing real good here, sir!" from somewhere in the crowd. A few chuckles came up from hearing that.
The headmaster looked in the direction the shout came from, and glared for a moment, suddenly very serious. The chuckles from the crowd died down, and the stadium was very quiet. Then, the headmaster calmly spoke again into the microphone, and said, "Damn straight you should be, son."
The silence abruptly vanished and the crowd laughed much louder, and the headmaster smiled and shrugged. He chuckled a little himself as he looked around at the students in the seats.
"Yeah, seriously, that's good to know," the headmaster continued. "That's good to know. Real good. For some of you who are new here today, let me introduce myself. My name is Daichi Wakahisa, and I am the headmaster here at the Duel Academy. And what I've seen in my time here so far, is that yes, it has been real good. The Duel Academy has gotten better over the last few years, and has been on the rise. Our students are graduating at a higher rate then before, because there is a higher quality of education here now, and there is even more of an incentive to put work in and try to move up the rankings. And not only that, but our graduates are carrying that kind of work ethic with them to the Pro League, and succeeding in their dueling careers because of it. That's the level of our standards, that's the kind of stuff awaiting you in the classroom, and that's the kind of future that's ahead for you, here, at the Duel Academy. To all the first-years, I would like to say, I hope to see the same commitment to excellence from you all, and the same great future for you all. Here's to a great year at the Duel Academy! Welcome!"
The crowd applauded loudly. Wakahisa waited for the crowd to quiet down before continuing, "Now, I have one last thing to say, and I want to make it clear." The tone in Wakahisa's voice became more serious. "I've heard that there are a number of Egyptians among the first-years, most of them being followers of the beliefs of Egyptian mythology, and I've heard some of my staff are taking measures to ensure that they're welcomed and so on. I'm not criticizing those efforts, but personally, I'm not going to do anything to specifically acknowledge them, besides from now, just like everyone else among the first-years. The reason why is, I don't believe in being conscious of things like race, or gender, or nationality, or religion. It doesn't matter. It shouldn't matter. To me, those differences are about as relevant as your hair color. It's who you are, how you look, how you'd be described, but it is nothing to distance people from you. There is never a reason why you should be so quick to judge people, and there is never a reason why you should be prejudiced, and there is never a reason why you should ever take someone of your race or gender over someone different just because they're your race or gender. Too many people nowadays put a lot of weight on those differences, rather then on what they should be putting it on: character. The strength of someone's character, is what matters. And it is a damn shame how often that trait gets ignored.
"So I'm not going to specifically welcome just the Egyptians or anything like that because they're Egyptians. I'm welcoming them and everyone because they are first-years who are here to try and study for the chance to make it as a professional duelist, and I'm welcoming them because I want to see them succeed like everyone else, and I want them to have an awesome time here like everyone else. Let's look forward to that!"
The crowd applauded again. Once they quieted down, Wakahisa then said, "Now, then, let's begin the introductions for the two duelists!"
The crowd applauded even louder now, as the scoreboard screen flashed to an image of two silhouettes, with a large "VS" icon between them.
"The first one of the two I'm introducing," Wakahisa continued, "is the best of the first-years coming in. She managed to not only get ranked Obelisk Blue, but she defeated the teacher testing her in just a few turns! Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome, Sumayya Badr!"
The crowd cheered as a young woman in an Obelisk Blue uniform (strangely, the kind meant for male students and not the one for female students) stood up and walked to the duel arena and up to Wakahisa to shake his hand, as duelist information came up on the scoreboard screen.

Scoreboard Details - DUELIST #1

NAME: Sumayya Badr
NATIONALITY: Egyptian
AGE: 19 (20 later this year)
PLACE OF BIRTH: Cairo, Egypt
RANK: Obelisk Blue (First-Year)
DECK THEME: Beatdown
PREVIOUS SCHOOL: Cairo Dueling Academy
RECORD: 76-5 (.925)
  • Is the winningest duelist out of the Cairo Dueling Academy's graduating class last year
  • Combines a high dueling IQ with a beatdown scheme
  • Has defeated the teacher testing her in only four turns

Seeing Sumayya in the light, she seemed a little taller then Wakahisa's height, and her name and skin tone said that she was definitely Egyptian. Her straight black hair was short and reached down to her shoulders, and she was calm yet emotionless. She nodded once to the crowd cheering for her.
Wakahisa spoke again into the microphone. "Alright, so you know a little about her now. But the duelist she will be facing is a known name around the Academy, one of Obelisk Blue's all-time elite and Crowler's personal pick for the duel, I give to you, the Machine King himself, Chayne Weert!"
The duelist information for Chayne appeared on the scoreboard, as the crowd cheered for Chayne, watching for him to come up to the arena.

Scoreboard Details - DUELIST #2

NAME: Chayne Weert
NATIONALITY: American
AGE: 21
PLACE OF BIRTH: Indianapolis, USA
RANK: Obelisk Blue (Fourth-Year)
DECK THEME: Machine-Types
PREVIOUS SCHOOL: N/A
RECORD: 149-35 (.809)
  • Was ranked consistently in the Academy's top five last year
  • Takes after the infamous American duelist, Bandit Keith, with his use of machine-types
  • Has nearly gone undefeated last year in his first year as an Obelisk Blue (65-1)

Jayden
Jayden personally liked to see that Sumayya succeeded so much on a strategy similar to his own. It was actually pretty assuring to see that beatdown can work at this level, as opposed to all the fancy combos people put out nowadays. Jayden just had to do what he did best at, and he could carve out a nice spot among the Blues after all.
When he heard Chayne's introduction and saw the scoreboard, though, Jayden started to feel a bit of dread. Didn't anyone know Chayne's running a new deck now? This must have been last-last-last minute, no wonder Crowler was freaking. Jayden wasn't sure now what was going to happen when Chayne shows his new deck, or if when people are going to react and how. The dread started to build.
Jayden really hoped it was just anxiety.
Just beat her, man. Don't get fancy with the new stuff.

Standing ready, with his eyes fixated on his opponent, Chayne took his deck and placed it into his Duel Disk System. The system was attached firmly to Chayne's left wrist, and flashed through a spectrum of colors, that outlined the crevices in the device, when he placed his deck in the appropriate slot. Just above where he place it, a life point counter activated reading 4,000 LP.

"Hmmm..."

They still think I'm using Machines. Well, it'll be a surprise for everyone, then. I'm curious to see what she could've eliminated her tester in four turns with. I'm not fond of beatdown-styled decks as it is. Guess I'll just have to find out, and roll with the punches.

Chayne almost looked hypnotized, staring blankly at his opponent. He was trying to read her...

As a surprise to everyone, Kuro just sat there like a normal human being waiting for the duel to start. His eye's were glued on Chayne, in hopes he would learn his deck before he himself faced him on the battlefield. He was determined to keep his reputation as one of the top-ranked duelist at the school and nothing was going to change that.

The rest of the obelisk blues had a bet that Kuro was to do something to Chayne during this match. A few eyes turned over to him and they watched carefully while whispering about the situation. Kuro turned over to them and said very quietly "If you want to see your family and friends tomorrow, I suggest you turn your attention to the duel instead of gawking at my awesome skill."

Everyone involved in the bet facepalmed, and then continued on with watching the duel.

(I hope you can win Chayne, I believe in you!)

Jason just sat among the rest of the duelers in the academy. As the names were announced he noticed a familiar face. "That's Chayne!" he thought to himself. He was kind of hoping that Chayne would lose. He was just glad the he wasn't dueling. If he was there right now he would just get a great big beatdown. Chayne created this odd hatred inside of Jason, and he didn't know why. Maybe it was because the way that Chayne had treated Kuro. Regardless, this should be an excellent duel as both duelists deserve to be in that arena. Jason decided to place his focus on the duel, and nothing else. Who knows, he might just learn a few things.

Saranto tagged along with Jayden, sitting by him once they got to the stadium. He'd waited far too long for the first duel already, and the excitement was evident in his expression. Watching two Obelisk Blues go at it was always fun, and he wanted to see this new student in action. He loved a good beatdown deck. As the headmasters speech came to a close, it took all his might not to cry out in excitement. It was almost time!
