It has been a pleasure meeting and serving everyone on this website, but if we wish to move on, we must start fresh in a new location. I hope everyone understands and we hope to see new and old faces. With all that is said and done, SHS is officially up and running again and we had our first tournament on 2/24/2017!! As discussed, we can still hold the 10 year anniversary party. - Thanks for you understanding! With love, Pijy

I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts on this matter. As you should all know, it looks like the new smash game will have a TON of options for customizing your character. You can change their special moves, and give them stat enhancing items. Palutena and the Mii Fighters are even based entirely around this idea. It made me wonder about how tournaments will work with this. Its clear that that most of Smash's features are completely disabled when you play competitively. You are confined to one specific rule set, a handful of stages, and you must turn items off. I expect this one to be no different. However, the customizations could add a lot of depth and excitement for the tournaments. Post below abaut how you think we should handle these new options for tournaments. My thoughts are we have the custom attacks be perfectly legal, but we disable the stat enhancing items. This would let us use the Miis and Palutena as well as the other special attacks in the game, but not have them be completely broken with the enhancing items. As a response to the unavoidable post that says " You wouldn't be able to predict your opponent's moves and exact move set." How would that be different then MvC3's different assist moves? | I am against this just because every player is going to be unpredictable. Custom moves and things like that are likely going to be banned competitively as well to be honest. As I said the other day, I could see this being perfect for unofficial tournaments, but it will be a major turnoff for competitive players. And when we have tournaments we usually try to use the competitive rulesets. I'd personally rather see this be more for unofficial tournaments over the official ones. That is also just my opinion. I'd love to hear other peoples. |

| they won't be put in. The stocks will be 3 stocks too, not the 4 stocks nintendo tried to do. this would be nothing like MvC3's assist moves, as each character has different assist moves, but you see which ones you select, you know what the good ones for each characters are as the assist moves are select and cannot be changed. those moves are a part of the character still. custom move sets we have no clue how they may be edited. from the looks of what i saw you can add invincibility frames etc to moves. Due to that fact, custom movesets will not be allowed in competative play. They will however be fun to play with. Like the old super character brawl hacks people liked to mess around with. |

| I agree with Yoshi and Xeelt here, this is not going to be used in competitive play at all. I feel like it would be a bit unfair because of the ways you can customize your moves, it just wouldn't seem right. Also Palutena doesn't have anything to do with the Mii's as far as customization goes, she has her own unique moveset :P |

2 things to clear up on. As far as I know, customizing the properties of a move is an entirely different thing. I was suggesting the completely different versions of the basic attack be legal. Every character has 3 different versions of their specials. Mario's fireball has it's normal form, its fast and straight moving form , and its fire orb form. I think changing the power and invincibility frames of the attacks has to do with the equipable items, and im fine with not using those. http://www.joystiq.com/2014/06/10/super-smash-bros-lets-you-customize-special-moves/ That is the reason I compared them to MvC3 because you choose between 3 different attacks for a single command, but I do understand the blind factor this will probably play 2. Palutena is built around this, in her trailer she uses all her different special moves but you have to choose them the same way you would for another character. Her's are just more unique then the others. Edited by Sora Izumi, 15/06/2014 - 06:47 pm.

If that's how invincibility frames could work (being equipable and so on), then I'm definitely for making custom movesets be a thing in tourneys. Honestly, I believe the ability to improvise is tied in with your actual skill level, and I think custom movesets will make matches be more about that. Otherwise, if things like invincibility frames wouldn't be easily restricted, then I might switch to being against custom movesets simply because I can just imagine the BS some people could pull with that. | It depends on how they do it. Traditional fighters usually give the choice between special attacks (like Street Fighter) or different support options (uMvC3). Realistically it probably won't be allowed, unless they go out of their way to make it balanced - and let's be honest, even in Street Fighter, there's usually an 'optimal' setup that the small customization part becomes moot. |

Also think of the time it would take to set up those different moves. But if we do the 3ds smash we can have them easily available on the bottom screen. So why not make the 3ds version custom moveset legal asnd the Wii U version non-custom moveset to spice up our play and the difference between the two games. |

| Still against it. It makes everything to unpredictable. Unofficial tournaments do exist y'know. To me it'd be more fitting there over being official. |

I'm all for it. It would add a different experience to both games rather than making them the same. Plus this would allow us to use the Mii Fighters. All in the name of fun. Not serious competition. The wii u can be the more competitive version. Noone goes to unofficial tourneys like ever so those wouldn't work. @ yoshi |

| Actually yes they do happen. Plus if people want it bad enough they would show up to it. I've seen unofficial tournaments have higher turnouts than official ones. I'd also like to point out when I joined unofficial tournaments were the only ones tht happened and it was because they were games that interested the members such as LoL. With the smash it would be new so people would be more likely to show up to it. Plus if you made custom movesets unofficial it could help bring Poll tournaments more people since the game would be popular. But whatever if y'all make it be a part of the official tournaments so be it. |

Actually most of the staff wants Poll tournaments gone... We'll prolly just start doing random game set ups instead. I have a hatred for unofficial anything when it comes to this site. It's pretty much saying "we don't really care about this enough to actually do it." Yeah, there has been some unofficial tournaments but no one really actively goes after unofficial tournaments. Plus the official tournaments are doing bad enough (has been picking up though) so unofficial tournaments prolly wont have the needed participation. Also I posted in another topic where smashboards are looking at the 3ds version being the custom moveset version so it's not without precedent. Plus the 3ds is more of a casual game to begin with. Plus the movesets are limited to 4 moves with 3 variations each... so it's not that random. |

| maybe announce or submit an entire list of said moveset to tourney managers so one could get the green light to use them in the tourney. |

| Unpredictability is something people experience all the time in Pokemon and Mario Kart, and we have no problems about it there. There are people like me and Ludi where we make some of the most creative sets for Pokemon and throw off our opponents from them not being able to predict the move set until it's too late. Mario Kart has that luck feature from the items you receive so unpredictability is something always on mind. Not only that but the Mii's and Palutena will have a limited set of special moves, and plus if you ask me that changes something about the game making it more exciting and less bland. The only bad thing I can see from this if there are going to be special moves that are going to be more viable than others making them drastically broken or useless. |
