  • The Cheapest Option to Play the new Smash!

Due to convenience reasons, SHS will no longer be operating on this site! We are now located on facebook and are using discord for the chat. For information, our discord chat is here: https://discord.gg/84ue8Vv. It has been a pleasure meeting and serving everyone on this website, but if we wish to move on, we must start fresh in a new location. I hope everyone understands and we hope to see new and old faces. With all that is said and done, SHS is officially up and running again and we had our first tournament on 2/24/2017!! As discussed, we can still hold the 10 year anniversary party. - Thanks for you understanding! With love, Pijy

Considering you have a previous wii and a gamecube controller, here is the cheapest way to play the new smash. Just hope you can control the menu screen with the gamecube controller. Otherwise, you'd have to use your wii remote for that one purpose. But you already had that wii right?

Sell your old wii. You won't need that anymore!
You can easily sell just the console itself with no hook-ups for $30 on eBay!

Next consider your options, if you want to play on an HDTV, you can share an HDMI cable with another device, otherwise, what are you a caveman?

If you have not evolved into a civilized human being, you are in luck! The Wii AV cables work with the Wii U.

Also if you need the sensor bar for the Wii remote, the same sensor bar can be used on the Wii U from the Wii (which i'm not actually sure that you can control the settings screen with anything but the Gamepad, if that is the case then add another $40+ to this option within the price as you will need spend that money on a Wii U gamepad just to change the connection from HDMI to AV)

Next you will need a power cable
The Power Cable is about $20 but I'm sure if you look around hard enough, you can find one for cheaper

So now since you already have that gamecube controller you will be needing the wii U gamecube adapter.
Spoiler: click to toggle

Then finally the most expensive part of the whole set up, the Wii U itself!
ʕノ•ᴥ•ʔノ ︵ ┻━┻

This is the cheapest Wii U console I could find. for $100 +$18 shipping

With selling the Wii console and already having a working wii remote and a gamecube controller. You are looking at $128. Then after buying the game at launch, that would put it at $188. Still kind of pricey but it beats buying everything new which would easily be double that price!
