  • Erasing mods

Due to convenience reasons, SHS will no longer be operating on this site! We are now located on facebook and are using discord for the chat. For information, our discord chat is here: https://discord.gg/84ue8Vv. It has been a pleasure meeting and serving everyone on this website, but if we wish to move on, we must start fresh in a new location. I hope everyone understands and we hope to see new and old faces. With all that is said and done, SHS is officially up and running again and we had our first tournament on 2/24/2017!! As discussed, we can still hold the 10 year anniversary party. - Thanks for you understanding! With love, Pijy

Really? We can't delete our own posts? I never knew that....
Anyway, as Rogue said if regular mods do this anyway than this isn't necessary.

fyi,
zetaboards does support the dohtml tag,
the reason u cannot see it is because you must know of it's existance( the shs test board is still up, i use it to see the extent of the zetaboards setups)

The doHTML tag will work in converted posts, but will not be available at this time for use in new posts or after you edit converted posts. ZetaBoards offers a wider selection of BBCode that will let you do things such as create tables and embed YouTube videos without the doHTML tag.

I found that here: http://support.zetaboards.com/topic/42858/1/

Now can we please get back on topic. Should people be allowed to delete their own posts? I say no for the reason listed above.

I'm an admin there... doesn't that qualify me to see the doHTML tag?

Anyways... I recall reading a few months back when reading through a list of changes between Zetaboards and Invision Free they said that Zetaboards doesn't support doHTML and instead replaces it with the table and flash tags.

Edit: Oh yeah, the link Lycan gave is the same thing I read.

I still havent heard a well structured argument against my points, so I'm not going to grant people the ability to delete their own posts any time soon. No Avatar

Just because you can't take take your own words when talking to someone in person doesn't mean you should be able to take them back in forums. People can say stupid things when they aren't thinking straight (IE, maybe they're pissed off,) or maybe they just don't know the whole story yet (they read through the first 5 posts in a topic when there was a 6th one that they forgot to read... the 6th one cleared it all up but the first 5 had just got them so angry they made their post before reading it,)

Also... you can already effectively delete your posts by editing them to say nothing. When a person does that it then just wastes space with their avatar and signature without adding anything to the conversation. It effectively is transformed into accidental spam. They'd like to remove the spam but they can't because they can't delete their own posts.

So basically you're saying that if someone got mad and flamed someone else they should have the right to delete it before a mod sees it, even if the person they were aiming to offend has already read it? No people cant take their words back in real life, and they cant in a forum, they can only hide them from people who have yet to see them, it doesnt mean they were never said, and it doesnt mean that even if said post doesnt exist that the effects that post will cause also disappears.

Also if someone posts without reading the entire topic they can use the edit ability to shape it into a meaningful post, even if they just apologised for not reading the whole topic that turns a spam post into a non spam post. Plus like I have said before if people went around positng carelessly and then deleting their posts, all it does is boost their post count, it doesnt teach them anything about meaningful and mature posting.

And I have never in my 4 years of being a foum admin see someone edit a post to say nothing at all, I have seen them edit it to say things like "sorry my mistake, mod please delete this" or something equally intelligent, but never to delete a post to say nothing at all.

The forum started out with all of those privaleges, however in my forum experience people regularly abuse such privaleges, and because of that people have asked me to take away such privaleges, one by one, and to be honest when I look back at my experience as the admin of several forums I see that was the right decision. And unless anyone can provide a well written reply to the reasons stated as to why I should reinstate such privaleges I will keep the forums the way they are. And for the record I dont think "everyone thinks its a good idea" is a good reason, after all everyone wants a million quid, and I can think of many reasons not to give everyone a million quid.
