Back in ye olden days... You know, I was never convinced that the part swapping glitch was actually a glitch. It feels like it was something FB was trying to implement into the game, but didn't get it quite right, so left it as a work in progress.
My theory was that he used it to build the shellcore npcs. If you look at some of the other "hold shift" glitches, you find that you are also able to place parts in positions you normally cannot, and then when you hit construct while holding shift you get an output box called "ship data" or something that contains a string representation of a multi-level array containing all part positions, rotations, sprites and components. If I remember correctly, in the decompiled code each npc design has an attribute called "shipData" that is in essentially the same format as the "ship data" dialog.

He probably intended to disable it before releasing it.
I have to mod SCC to death now... >u< Oh, another question: How long ago did Flashbacker dissapear?

I don't remember the exact month, but I think it was around January 2011. The old forums remained up for a few months, before they went down, then we moved here.

That is so long ago... How did this survive for six years without the dev?!?!

It sort of didn't. This forum only lasted a few years before it fizzled out. The activity in the last three years has been pretty minimal. Like this thread. Or nedben's struggled attempt to revive the forum. The fact of the matter is that without new content (such as FB showing up out of the blue and releasing Ep 2 and announcing Ep 3) there's only so much that can be discussed.

We have passed peak game content discussion. About all that's left is original content: the original source is exhausted, all that remains is to make more of it.

I actually managed to make a scc mod in a few days that doubled the part limit, doubled the ship building area, and added basic level 3 part merchants to the uninfected capital.

I also implemented the scanner skill in a day, a skill that looked to be a WIP. So it's not infeasible that we could continue development.

That would be a neat thing to see. I wonder how Flashbacker would react to a third SCC game.

It's tough to say how FB would react to someone taking the series into their own hands. It would certainly be cool to make a 3rd game, but we would have to guess the intentions of FB and not screw around too much. Adding defects and corelings is reasonable, as it is implied that the core has Shellcores, and defects are a believable rumor among the infected. Allowing you to break part limit, but you slowly begin to lose control of your shellcore (abilities may activate on their own, the point that you move to turns into an area, you might attack allied cores unintentionally, you can't remove parts and tractor beaming a part adds it to your core automatically) could be an interesting mechanic. But the story as it unfolds would be tricky to determine.

I have time to kill (not really but I procrastinate a lot, may as well use the time). To look through and possibly continue SCC, can I just tear the .swf file off a website or is there something else I have to do?
