I feel the visuals are both stylistic enough to warrant caution, and simple enough to use as is or with minor adjustments. The area that I'd exercise the most concern over would be the story as it seems obvious that FB had an intended goal and direction in mind at the end of Episode 2. I don't see anything wrong with having a separated game like a "Skirmish v.2".

At best you could make an alternate timeline where you are forced off path partway through Episode 1 and Episode 2 doesn't take place. Maybe you get attacked by a lost defect and get rescued by an infected Deadzone Core who takes you to a different area and you start with a partially damaged shellcore that is missing some parts. Alternatively you could get warped to the core and converted into a coreling and you start in the core area with some starting parts that made it through the conversion, but now have to help defend the core from various other factions.

Well from what I have seen over the past years, back from the beginning when he published the first game... He was quite of alone by himself back then, hearing the advice of some players he eventually created a forum just for peoples to help him in providing community materials to develop his game, as well with other stuff related to testing. This forum we are currently on now was no longer in control by FB himself, we of course now had known what caused the forum site of his to shut down, after a brief investigation I performed some time ago about the hosts which he uses, we condemned he hasn't performed enough background checks before going to uses their services, which is an unfortunate point here. However we still not yet knows why he hadn't found us yet till this point.

Hi everyone. Seeing as this is the most recent thread, I'll post here instead of necro-ing some 4 year old thread.

I too have fond memories of the beloved Shellcore series and I'm also interested in making (or help make) the game in HTML 5, as it's slowly becoming a more secure way of making games.

We could work on the project together, have the code up on GitHub while in development.
FlashBacker would be given credit as the original inspiration of course, and with the game being as open-source as we can safely make it (GitHub) FlashBacker would be able to join in on developing or making art for the game.

I think calling a community made game, made in a different (programming) language than the original, as part of the ShellCore Command series is morally wrong, as it could be taken as us taking credit for FB's work. Instead, maybe something like "ShellCore Revived"? I think this name would represent how the remaining community is breathing life into a forgotten game, while not straight up stealing.

The community game would be non-profit(FREETOPLAY,FREETOWIN), but perhaps we could set up a patreon/donate page where every donation is split between everyone behind the game? This would only be for people who want to donate for no personal gain, as it wouldn't come with any features separate just for donaters.

Now I'd like to touch on the Moral Dilemma of Flash Backer's Intellectual Rights(?)
It has been over 6 years, we haven't heard a peep from anyone with a shred of evidence as to who he/she is.
Remaining Shellcore forums are not hard to find. It would not be hard for FB to reach out and talk to us.
As FB still hasn't reached out, he/she has likely forgotten about it, or holds Shellcore with other fond memories like all of us. I can't think of why FB would be against people making a non-profit game that also has elements of their original after so many years.
In my mind, enough time has passed without activity to justify breathing life from a different creator.

We have Artists, People that can learn HTML 5(the coding side of things), quite a few people with ideas for game-lore, Inspiration, and purpose. Why not do this? Let's all join up and finally agree on something!

Sorry for the huge wall of text, here's a summary
TLDR: I want to make ShellCore in a new programming language, open-source, free, and I believe we have enough moral justification to do it.

I have just created a discord server for discussion and development, since the aeoiu server is dead, in complete shambles, hard to navigate, and because I found no content related to ShellCore Command on there. Discord will notify us much easier than these forums currently, and will also show who is still active here.
Invite

Edit: The aeiou* discord server has shellcore content, and actually has some structure to it (despite how initially confusing it is to look at)
I look forward to being with the people there.

Double Edit. The discord link I had doesn't even go to my server. Whoops sorry.
New one should work, I'm double checking this time.

If you feel like making the attempt I wish you the best of luck, but I'll sit this one out (I don't use Discord). Pretty much nobody is "active" here though. We tend to pop in every so often and look around, but unless someone new brings up a discussion (like you are doing now) we don't interact much anymore.

Please mail me a different invitation link that does not expire or post the expiring link in Aeiou Discord (notify us with @ShellCore tag too), I can't get in
