Walrus.
At school, we do this shitty typing program, but it HAS helped me in some ways, and my average is about 39-45 WPM.

I used to be horible at typing, until I got away from typing class and found this forum.

How did this forum improve your typing?

At my best, with everything that I'm going to type completely predetermined, I can reach a top speed of 90 WPM using a modified home row style, using six fingers for lettering and the pinkies for capitalization and punctuation. Granted the occasional typo, lost spacing, or misspelling is bound to occur when I'm typing that fast, and I find it uncomfortable and hate typing like that, but I can pump out perfect sentences at a speed of 60 WPM if I'm not pressed for time. If I'm pressed for time and require the use of one hand elsewhere I have an adapted F-J style that can get 50 WPM with my left hand (just shy of 40 with my right, but I rarely need to switch to my right while typing in a hurry), but at a more relaxed speed I can go 30 WPM one-handed. Obviously on here I go for a relaxed one-hand style since I'm not often pressed for time, and have better use of my right hand either using the mouse, feeding myself, or otherwise being occupied.

@Decel I never had to type more than a few words at a time before I joined the old forum.

I had to type up 5 page essays before I found the old forums. At my speed of 5 WPM it took forever.

That sucks.

Five? I'd have to be in a state of severe sleep deprivation to drop below twenty. That or I would need to have no idea what I'm typing before I got to work. A combination of the two might get me to drop to ten... But five... I guess if you took the total words and the total time involved for writing, proofing, and editing I might drop to five since I spend a rather long time going through the paper for mistakes (which is why I usually had someone else proof-read it for me). Unless it's a creative story at which point my WPM is an average of zero since I can't write an intro to save my life and as a result I sit there and stare at the screen for hours with nothing to show for it.

Meh, my WPM varies wildly. Weird.

As to writing: I can start it decently, but from there it turns into something that makes it look from the perspective of someone having a seizure on the floor barfed onto paper.
