Maybe I should turn this into a useless trivia questions thread. Like, how many teeth George Washington had when he was inaugurated the first time.

But for now, question 5: How about simple geometry?

A circle and a square are drawn overlapping one another. They share the same center. If the area of the square outside the circle is equal to the area of the circle outside the square, then what is the ratio of the square's side length to the circle's diameter?

In other words the area of the square is equal to the area of the circle? If the length of the square's side is 1 unit than the diameter of the circle would be approximately 1.1284 units (If the circle's diameter is 1 unit the square's side is .8862). It follows the procedure of d=2(√(s²/3.14159)) or s=√(3.14159(d/2)²) where d is diameter of the circle and s is the side of the square.

I was planning on some good old trigonometry for question 6, but that'd probably be too easy for Spar. So, here's question 6:

A fruit stand sells bananas. The number of bananas sold varies inversely with the price of the bananas. If 60 bananas are sold in one day for $0.20 each, what price will maximize income? And what is the maximum income?

Simply mentioning that the price affects the sales and at 20 cents each you can sell 60 bananas isn't enough. You need to specify a ratio, or another point to work with. Is it inversed in a way that lowering the price by a penny sells one more banana (or lowering the price by a penny sells two bananas, or lowering the price by two pennies sells one banana, etc)?

Umm, if 20 cents sells 60 bananas, then obviously the formula is [bananas sold per day = 12/price in dollars[.

That's certainly not an obvious formula, but I'll let it go. At that rate however the maximum income would be 12 dollars and the variant would be how many bananas you want to sell. Selling a single banana for 12 dollars yields the same income as selling bananas for a dollar each (sells 12 bananas), for a nickel each (240 bananas), or a penny each (1200 bananas).
