Welcome to How well would you fare in a zombie apocalypse!

This is an old thread being revived, and revamped.

There are several areas to consider, write them out in the format
below then rate yourself.

Food and water

My area is a condominum/estate area with a pretty big external garden
that can feed us until its next harvest, so we should be fine. As for water,
we have a filtration system that was implemented by the government so
that we could source water directly from our own sewage, although disgusting,
it was made for this purpose. There is a huge used car garage about 800m down
the road, as well as several grocers/food outlets.

Electricity/Comms

Huge backup generator down below, as in nearly hospital size. Its a bit old
though, may not work properly. But i guess it should be decent enough.
Solar panels as well, I think it should be pretty decent output.

Phones are 3G, and the connection rate here is good, so we should be able
to get internet and calls till the zom zoms break the tower.

Safety

The only unsafe part of the area is the lower carpark, but the
upper carpark is cut off from the lower one and has a garage
and gymnasium. So cars are safe.

The main area is high above ground level due to the fact that
the lower areas are carparks and the like, but the only open area
is the main gate, and its metal so its pretty safe.

The stairwells are blocked off by heavy wooden doors on each level
due to the fact some people like to smoke there.

Fire alarms are not your standard fare loud ringing, but rather in the
units themselves, so if theres ever a fire sound shouldn't be too bad.

There is a open balcony sort of thing next to the garden so there will
be a vantage point to scout and lob rocks.

However, our area is very close to the city center so we will be at the
brunt of the attack. Best for us to keep quiet and do quick run missions.

Transport

Lots of cars and bikes, as well as the pre mentioned garage. Should
be pretty efficient to ride the bikes.

Overall Rating: Excellent to hide, terrible location.

Yes, we have had a thread like this before, and this topic has been beaten like a dead horse, but oh well. I suppose there is nothing wrong with having it again.

Food and Water:

While I do posses a greenhouse, it cannot produce anywhere near enough food to sustain me, even though it can operate can operate regardless of season or weather.

Although, I do have a very large stockpile of dried food, and I eat dried rations all of the time anyway, so it would not be a lifestyle change for me at all. But, I would eventually run out, so I would probably have to scavenge for food or get a few more greenhouses. Water is not an issue at all. I have a well, and my greenhouse's over-sized water collection system, which usually has a ton of runoff anyway.

Electricity and Communications:

For me, electricity is just as important as water or food. I rely on my advanced machinery to solve almost everything, without them I would be pretty screwed. And I have tons of essential systems that must be powered at all times.

However, I am very aware of this weakness, and I have solar arrays and wind farms, in addition to multiple backup generators. I actually had a chance to test these systems during hurricane Irene and Sandy. The only time they failed was during Irene (This was before I had the solar generators, mind you), when our neighbors destroyed our generator because it was making too much noise. Needless to say, I now have far better generators that cannot be sabotaged unless you break a few locks.

Communications, however, are an issue. I lack any 3G devices, and our ISP is ridiculously unreliable. If the city power goes out, so does out internet connection, regardless of weather or not my structure is powered. And trust me, I need my internetz. I do have a large radio antenna (Built into a wind turbine), but you cannot access forums and host servers with that, now can you?

Safety:

I live in a semi-rural area, meaning that I would probably not see many zombies. I also have plenty of armaments, and equipment like heavy armor and night vision devices to fight off a decent number of them. My structure is also quite durable, although it is not very tall, meaning that I would not have a very good vantage point for sniping.

Transport:

I have two vehicles at my household, although one of them is too small for me to drive. I actually am in the process of looking for a large military supply truck or similar for my research, but such a craft would actually not be that useful in a zombie apocalypse, as it would consume a ridiclous amount of fuel (At least if my research was unsuccessful).

I do however own a large vessel. Although she is usually docked a bit of a distance from my house. It would actually be feasible for me to survive out on the water as a backup plan. But I would have to plan it in advance, as the seas are nearly impassible in my area during winter.

Unfortunately, while I am not disabled, I am not physically capable of riding bicycles, motorcycles, or similar craft. Meaning that I must stick to heavier powered vehicles and therefore would not have the ease of use of such devices.

Overall rating: Acceptable, but not wonderful either.

Would like to clarify some things in my post.

My area is not completely private, as its a 3 house area, meaning 3 families living in this rather large area, although sectioned off by walls, there are many gates past the main gate. Its sort of like an apartment, but an actual house. I think the best description would be Semi-Detached.

Since Equipment was brought up, i do not have any night vision etc, but i have many improvised weapons made of wood/steel due to my immense free time and huge workshop. These range from arrow bolts, to magnetic propulsion weapons, to even flame based
weapons. If I were to scavenge, my loadout would be very low tech, most self made flamethrower pistols with oversized canisters, blades, and firecracker pellets to distract them.

My biggest problem would be winter, as the garden is relatively exposed, and cannot shelter from snow. But by then
we would likely have enough food stocked up for the winter periods.

I also had the genius or stupid (Depending on who you ask) idea to stock up on car batteries, so i suppose they
could serve as a power source. If the 3G goes down, we still have a comns system not only at them main gate,
but also a small radio tower that transmits in a 5km area if i'm not wrong.

Lastly, the worst problem would be when we have to leave for supplies, if we don't have to, we can be safe,
if not, we are screwed. Also, I would need to minimize workshop use as it would attract zoms.
Meaning our weapon supply could deteriorate pretty fast.

If i'm not wrong the tower should be able to connect to any network in the surrounding area if one of the nearby towers goes down.
If anything goes wrong (which it likely will) Our only option is to watch the television, as i have a huge library archive of movies/shows (17.8 terrabytes stuck on 2 huge ass memory blocks.)

Food and water

There is a local 7-11.

Electricity/Comms

I do not have any backup power systems, but I do have a 3G Phone, and I know where the cell tower is.

Safety

I live in a duplex filled with old furniture and I have several axes, shovels, hammers, and knives (Mostly for fishing), also my cousin's shotgun, but I have no ammo.
So I would be fucked.

Transport

My family has a dying van, a pickup truck, which is also dying, and a SUV, which is also dying.
I also have a bike, but I am not stupid enough to ride that through zombies.

Overall Rating: Shit. I would be killed in seconds.

Oh, this again. My situation hasn't changed much from last time. Let me list out the facts...

Food and Water
I have perhaps a few days' supply of water and other drinks (mostly soda and orange juice) at my house. Most of my food is frozen, requiring some source of heat to make it edible. I have only one portable food cooking device, a small gas stove with a few canisters of propane, which should last for about two days. So, in about a week I should be starved or dehydrated, assuming I haven't been found by zombies or gotten another food source.

Electricity/comms
I have no backup power supply, so once the grid goes down so do I. Also I will have no internet once the power goes out too. I have a drawer full of batteries, but they're mostly AA and won't be enough to power much of anything useful. I'll probably have to rely on my car to charge my cell phones for communication.

Safety
I have no guns. I have no combat knives. I have no armor. My house has no gate, its windows are 60 years old, there is no fence, and only a short cinder block wall that a ten-year-old could climb over. I will probably have to break into the police station and steal some guns and ammo if I really want them, or make a spear by duct-taping a kitchen knife to a long pole. Spears are actually really effective weapons, as long as they don't break.

Transport
There are three motor vehicles at my house. One is a 20-year old Toyota with a really bad paint job, and probably won't last for many more years. Then there is a newer Rav-4 which I suppose should have enough power to plow through small barricades or groups of zombies. I also have several bikes, of which all are too small for me to ride.

Overall Rating: Extremely Poor. I would be killed in... perhaps hours, maybe minutes.

This is assuming I stay where I am now. If I make out of the city, I could easily drive a couple hundred miles through the desert and find sparsely populated farmland, where I would probably find enough food to last a while and probably some weapons as well. Assuming I don't get killed by farmers trying to protect their crop.

Speaking of dried food, can you freeze dry anything? or is it just dehydrated?

Anyway:

Food:
I now live in a subarban neighborhood, so there is no room to grow anything apart from the tomato plants and various herbs in pots on our deck. While we live within walking distance of just about everything, there are a lot of people in several neighborhoods, so food would be scarce. we are on city water now, though my mom recently got a rain barrel so we have roof runoff.

Electricity/comms:
4G and decent signal, our internet is on centurylink, so it would probably grind to a halt in an apocalypse. We have no generators and no self-sustaining tech.
As naive as I am, the internet probably wouldn't help me much anyway.

Safety
We have some kitchen knives and bats.

Transport
We have two vehicles, a truck and a small car. Both are in fantastic shape and could get us away from the suburbia fairly quickly. I also possess a mountain bike that I ride everywhere when the trek doesn't involve going on the freeway or getting groceries (we buy in bulk)

Overall Rating:
Fucked, our neighborhood looks just like the ones in zombie movies. Our area would be heavily infested.

Food and Water:

There are several restaurants nearby, and a mall a few minutes of driving from my place.

As for water, I have tap water and a bunch of cans of soft drink.

That's it.

Electricity and Communications:

I have access to plentiful electricity basically forever until the power grid goes down, because I have access to mains power.

Yeah.

Safety:

My house has lockable doors, and I live in a suburban area with a bunch of other houses right next door, near a busy main road.

Transport:

There is a car at my house. I have no idea how to drive outside of pressing WSAD to move cars in video games.

Overall rating: RIP

Food and Water:

We have a small garden that mostly produces food I don't like...

We have a filtered water system. But that is more of a clean the clean stuff kind so...

Electricity and Communications:

We have enough solar panels to power our entire house during summer. Too bad they are hooked into the power grid...

Safety:

We have a nail gun. That needs power.

We have a ton of construction debris that could be used to fortify... and even more large windows that need fortification.

Transport:

There are multiple cars at my house. But I can't drive them.

Overall rating: So close, yet so far.
