Actually, metal is more expensive than gas. Heating and containing the plasma makes it expensive, but as I said it is more effective at causing harm. Microwaves are terrible at heating up metal because they bounce right off. If you want to melt tank armor, use thermite. It's cheap and easy to make, and requires no energy source. Microwaves are good at heating up water, so use them on personnel rather than heavy armor. Sound weaponry? Would you care to elaborate? |

As still, can't deny how effective microwave weaponry will be against electronics and humans, no matter if they have metal on them or no. Zing de zing. Also heats up tanks, cars, etc, causing overheat on engines, or people driving them. Sound weaponry. As in when you vibrate the frequency to a level so high glass breaks. Anti-Personnel weaponry. |

I remember the old thread. (New acc, because the old one was deleted for inactivity.) I would probably fare well, considering I both have a source of electricity and readily available water. I have melee weapons: Axes, Picks, Shovels. As well, I have two rifles and one shotgun (Single barrel, because one of my uncles friends used an overfilled reload and destroyed one of the barrels.) I have propane for cooking, and around two or three months worth of food. I have the basic knowledge of how to make a ranged weapon, but no real skill. Oh, yes, and I have rope. Secondly, and aside: A railgun was brought up in the other thread, as you recall? It was tossed out. Too much energy. I'll grant you, a railgun is useful, but if you want anything of substance you're going to need a car battery. Regular 9-volt or D-cell batteries would be used up too quickly for something that penetrates a human skull. Edited by TheKalshadur, Dec 19 2013, 07:13 PM.

Actually, the resonant frequency at which glass breaks is relatively low. I saw an episode of Mythbusters where some guy broke a wine glass with his voice, but at a low frequency rather than a high one. In any case I doubt a sound weapon would be very useful, since most modern soldiers already have ear protection to protect their ears from the sound made by their own weapons. Also, sound intensity decreases according to an inverse square law of the inverse of the square of the distance, so a sound weapon would have very limited range. |

Just saying, but they have had microwave shielding for as long as they have had microwaves. |

Microwave shielding is just thin sheets of steel, like on the inside of microwave ovens. It's not hard to reflect the stuff. |

Meh, fine. Soundwave weaponry is still useful, not all soldiers have sound protection. Its not that common. Microwave weaponry is very useful as a first strike tactic, and if used in large scale will be devastating to the common soldier. Would you like to be hit with a giant microwave? Didn't think so. Effective range is not that big of an issue either. As for the idiot who is still trying to keep up the fight against EM and MA weapons, saying that railguns should be "Thrown out". I would like you to fire off one of your rifles or shotguns, and see how many zeds you'll have crawling in your area. Then lets watch how amazingly your rifle holds off swarm after swarm of zeds. There are things called high capacity batteries. Expensive, yes. But if you have the resources to get what you need, like I do, you end up with tons of them. I have boxes full of different sorts of batteries, and not the types that will expire either. These are contained within superconductive casing, and can be recharged, albeit taking a long time. These can be nearly as powerful as a car battery. Then the question comes up, why bother to have cars use car batteries? HERP DERRRRRP! Because theres a difference between just the charge, the storage, and the voltage. Car batteries are cheaper to make to fit the purpose of a CAR. These batteries are meant to store more charge, and release a higher amount of power. The only thing is, they use different materials. Therefore, not as cost effective, but smaller. If anyone else has actually MADE proper EM/MA weaponry, and wishes to contest me in this, I would be more than happy. |

The thing about all these weapons: if you use them once on anyone, everyone else who has brains will put on the very cheap, effective, and readily available shielding, and completely nullify your weaponry. |

They can't keep it on all the time though. |

You can keep it on when you are fighting, and long enough to kill the person with the "weapon". Honestly that is like saying a rock is an effective weapon against a tank because "you can't drive it all the time". Edited by darty, Dec 21 2013, 01:23 AM.
