Name: Anna Hawkins (aka Helen Young; aka Anya Zakharenko)

Age: 24

Hobbies: going to the movies, knitting, playing Bridge

Occupation: Secretary at the newspaper

Appearance: Anna is about 5’4” tall, 5’6” or so when wearing heels. Her dark brown hair is neatly styled in Victory rolls and snood that hides its length. If a gentleman were asked to describe Anna’s physique in a single word, ‘sturdy’ would probably be the number one choice. By no means over weight at around 127 pounds, Miss Hawkins does not have the willowy silhouette made popular by Hollywood’s leading ladies.

Most of Anna’s wardrobe tends towards the conservative, with lots of mixing and matching occurring to make “new” outfits. Her most striking facial feature is her lips, which are never without a shiny coat of bright red lipstick that accents her dark hair and eyes.

Biography: Anna Hawkins is the only child of Bertha and Stephen Hawkins of Cleveland, Ohio. She was engaged to Samuel Dobson, a Marine who was killed while island-hopping in the war. Despite her best efforts, her lack of a green thumb killed most of the plants in her Victory garden. For relaxation, Anna enjoys going to the movies and playing Bridge with the other ladies who live at her boarding house. An impressive list of accomplishment for someone who was ‘born’ only two years ago.

Not that Anna Hawkins didn’t technically exist long before that. During the war, Anna was named Helen Young, a vivacious, bubbly, blonde-haired secretary at the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. Contrary to the knowledge of her coworkers at the Bureau, Helen was not from Allentown, Pennsylvania. She was, in fact, a carefully trained Soviet spy who had been planted at the Federal Bureau of Investigation by the then-named All-Union State Political Administration (OGPU) with the directive to collect sensitive information and pass it along to her contact in the city for the benefit of the Mother Country.

While her position and situation sounds very exciting and exotic, the reality of the situation was that very little important, sensitive, or useful information ever passed through Helen’s hands. After several years with few successes, it came to Helen’s attention that she was to be recalled back to Russia and reassigned. Having been spoiled by the amenities and freedoms available to her in her adopted country, Helen used her training and resources to forge a new identity. She returned her hair to its natural color, moved to the City, secured new employment and housing, and thusly, Anna Hawkins was born.

Helen Young (born Anya Zakharenko) knows that her former handler and the other OGPU agents will not stop searching for her until she has been apprehended and returned to the Soviet Union. However, her options for protection are limited by her knowledge of how the American intelligence community would react to the knowledge that she was a Soviet agent. Her best defense is to blend into the sea of humanity that make up the City and disappear.

Anna tends to be somewhat serious and reserved. She wears her “engagement ring” on a simple gold chain around her neck. When she is nervous or upset, she absently plays with it. Her preferred evening activities are knitting while listening to the radio or going out to the movies. Part of Anna’s love of the cinema is because it further exposes her to American culture and ideas. It gives her more information to help her blend in while requiring little in the way of conversation. She rarely slips up and reveals her native accent, but each time terrifies her, sure that the mistake will alert someone who will bring everything she’s built crashing down.

Reason For Playing: Anna decided to take Blackcoat up on his offer because she is hoping to gain security by completing the trials. Enough security that she no longer has to watch over her shoulder for the authorities, Soviet and Americans, to destroy the life she has chosen for herself.
