Wire in the Blood series 7 will not be happening after all, after ITV have pulled the plug.
This is taken from Val McDermid's own website.
"I'm sorry to confirm that the press announcements are right on the money. ITV have failed to recommission the series. After Coastal single-handedly restored ITV drama's status (The Times headline in September: 'Quality Drama Returns to ITV) this is how they are treated. Sandra Jobling, the executive producer, has sweated blood to bring this series in at high quality on a budget that was, in real terms, shrinking year on year and this decision is a slap in the face to her and to anyone committed to making classy TV drama. We had the audience numbers, the audience share and a committed audience who made an appointment with the show, not just watching it because there was nothing else on. We appear on 120 channels world-wide. We've just been shortlisted for an Edgar award by the Mystery Writers of America, up against such competition as The Wire, The Shield and Damages. But apparently we're not good enough for ITV.
It's not just about Coastal, though. The story is wider and deeper that that. Take a look at this story to get the fuller picture.

We are gutted by this, not least because the last series ended on one hell of a cliff hanger!

All we can hope is that another TV channel are brave enough to pick this series up - If it is - and its a big if - Whether it will then still be with Simone remains to be seen, since she might have taken other options on by the time this is resolved.

Another sad day for quality British Drama.

When you make a mistake, don't look back at it long. Take the reason of the thing into your mind and then look forward. Mistakes are lessons of wisdom.

Burnt offerings
I think this is such a pity considering this is a great show with fantastic writing, acting and production. Times are bad now, so I guess broadcasters are more concerned about the economics. Simone's portrayal of Alex Fielding was fantastic and I was really starting to like Alex Fielding as her character became more flushed out each year.

Oh well....... can only look forward and hope Simone has found something else which brings the best out of her to immerse herself in.

Here is a copy of my letter to ITV read it in good health one and all. Bye for now.

To Whom This May Concern:

Life is so amazing you just never know when a travesty will happen. There are no words other than tragic, unfair, stupid, wrong and totally tasteless to ax Wire In The Blood. It is not just a great television drama, with a splendid cast, and well written, but it actually gave its viewers something substantial to watch. Kind of Fillet Mignon versus Hamburger. After an episode of Wire In The Blood the audience is left with a feelling of being fully satiated like after eating a good meal, and with a pleasant after taste which makes the audience look forward to the next installation. As a very disgusted and disenchanted American who started watching more British programing for better quality entertainment, this has literally knocked me out like a sucker punch. I only hope that British television is not becoming infected by the American Bug, because there is no cure. There are those of us who are totally offended by crap on television, and believe me American television has more than its share, that is why I hoped that I could see more quality programs like Wire In The Blood, but I guess not due to your erroneous decision to ax it I have to watch the usual crap. And how down right cruel to ax a show on the eve of the birthday of one of its brilliant and beautiful and gifted stars, I of course am referring to Simone Lahbib. I guess there is no honor in show business, I guess Hollywood is Hollywood even in The UK. I have always thought that advertisers want to sell their product on networks which programs that bring in large and loyal audiences insothat they can make the most money from these audiences. For the life of me I cannot understand how a program that draws nearly 7 million views per episode is canceled. That is a phenomenal number, where are your brains are they in your head???

Since I have never known it to effective to say I am just devastated by this rotten decision, and to plead, for an appeal to reconsider. Additionally, to beg for your compassion to reconsider, by giving a laundry list of reason why a network should keep a program on the air. However, what I think may be a eyeopener to you is that if you do not reconsider and recommission Wire In The Blood, then we as loyal followers will have to take action by writing to all your advertisers and letting them decide if they want to throw away their money on a network that it completely daft and irresponsible.

I will be sending this letter to Coastal Productions, and SimoneLahbib.net just to keep everyone on the same page. As we yanks here in The US say the ball is in your court ----- don't drop it.

Very truly yours,
Cheryl Ann V. Leto,

OH MY GOD!!!! I am devestated that Wire has been axed ... It is such a shame just as it was really heating up too!!!! My thoughts go out to all the people on this production that will now find themselves out of work ... and to all of us that will now wait anxiously for Simone to appear in something else. If another channel does take up the show, and it would be wise of them to do so, i hope Simone continues on as Alex!!!!
