Okay, so me only got tiny bit for you :P:

Clark reached the next level and paused on the stairwell, even though his son’s captor moved on with ever increasing speed. It was strange, and the cop couldn’t explain it, but something was very wrong. Despite the fact that he shouldn’t tire, beads of perspiration were pouring from his brow. He glanced down at his hands, expecting to see the pulsing of his veins through his skin, and wasn’t disappointed. There’s kryptonite here somewhere…

Not wanting the bad guy to know if he didn’t already, Clark pushed himself onward, each footstep becoming increasingly difficult, until he was leaning against the handrails for much needed support. The more weight he rested on them, the weaker he seemed to become.

Ahead the villain paused, kicking open the doorway to the forty-fourth floor with his boot. “I think we should stop here, Kent. You’re looking decidedly green.” He laughed knowingly, and then waited for Clark to reach him. By the time the cop made it all the way up the steps he was resting all his weight on the wall. “Inside cop, let’s get this over with…”

Still cradling Ryan, the nameless con ushered Clark into an unfinished office area. It was empty save for the billowing of sheets from the ceiling where builders had yet to finish their tasks. He took up a position nearest two huge glass windows, and shot a glace to the ground below before aiming his weapon back at Kent.

“What do you want from me? Why have you done all this, it’s obviously not for money?” Clark’s chest heaved as he gasped out the words, but he kept his focus on Ryan. He would quite happily die here if it meant the child would live.

“I’ve killed several birds with one stone, as the saying goes. As has my boss, who alas couldn’t be here tonight…”

“But my son, he has no part in this, why involve him?” Clark moved closer, feeling his legs begin to turn to jelly beneath him even though he still hadn’t found the source of the meteor rocks.

“Your son is part of the problem, Kent!” The man sneered, “If I kill you, I can’t very well leave behind a brat that could one day have your…um uniqueness.” He pulled away the throw a little to peer down at the child as he spoke, “I suppose you’re wondering how you’re sick?”

Clark refused to answer. He needed to get as close as he dared and not collapse. I need to do this, I don’t care what happens to me after, but Ryan has to live!

“You see my boss arranged for entry into this building. It was quite amazing really, but my people have had access for days. They even helped in a little last minute construction, and let’s just say all the stairwells past the fortieth floor have a little something extra in the walls, just for you. But you couldn’t see that, could you?” An insane cackle resonated through the hollow room, and for an instant Clark thought it was all too familiar.

Then the man tugged off the rest of the throw-over from Ryan and faced the window with his weapon. He looked out across the dark night time vista of Metropolis, and even in his own condition Clark could see a terrible pain in the man’s agonized eyes.

“You wanted the city itself, didn’t you?” Kent coughed, finally guessing what this crazy person had aspired to have. “What you couldn’t take control of yourself, you decided no other could have. You want to kill Metropolis’ ruling structure…Pete, Lex…the police chief, and I’m the added bonus.”

“And I must say it’s been a very likable bonus, but now it’s time to choose, Kent.” The con stepped back just one pace from the giant windows, and fired off several rounds from his weapon. The safety glass didn’t shatter, but merely cracked in a myriad of tiny segments; like some oversized mirrored mosaic. “Which one of you dies quietly, Kent? You, or Ryan here?”

Taking the infant from his sleeping position, the bad guy rammed his boot up against the window repeatedly until it gave way and fell to the ground so far below. Clark heard each minute piece bounce and clatter on the sidewalk in a cacophony of evil sound. Then, just as he had feared, the villain took Ryan with just one hand, and began to stretch out his arm towards the open night air. Blasts of wind whipped through the unfinished office as its exposed position made the temperature feel almost freezing.

“So, Kent…you or the kid first?”

Paranoid Schizophrenic!!!!!
Please don't kill me for this, but you did demand more....

Clark wanted to yell out, but he knew it would only satisfy the bad guy more. Propped against the wall there was little else he could do but watch in agony. If I use what strength I have left to tackle him, Ryan could still be hurt…

Below, as if in answer to his torment, a muted thump followed by a low rumbling signaled the first of the planted explosives had detonated. The villain hesitated at the sound and then smiled, but when a second, much closer blast came he was taken totally by surprise. If he could have checked his watch he would have, because the other devices shouldn’t be going off for another ten minutes, but there was no time to look down.

The newest explosion threw ripples across the unfinished office floor like a tidal wave, sending all in its path falling to their knees or worse. The thug tumbled backwards, and in an attempt to keep control of the situation, he tossed baby Ryan to the side in order to steady himself.

Clark fell too, but could still see his tiny infant being hurled through the air in horrifyingly slow clarity. He watched in despair, and desperately tried to push his body to superspeed and catch his son before it was too late, but his legs simply wouldn’t move fast enough. The kryptonite in the walls wasn’t quite adequate to have him cowering on the carpet, but there was certainly sufficient to keep him subdued.

The off duty cop reached out his hand as he lunged urgently forward, and as Ryan missed his fingertips by mere millimeters he finally screamed out in anguish. “Ryan!” The infant hit the thick carpet with a sickening thump and lay perfectly still.

Clark rolled over as he landed from his dive and lay on his back, writhing from the torture of both the kryptonite and what he had just been forced to witness. No parent should have to be subjected to such cruelty, and the anger that burned within from it fueled him not to give up. He panted and reached out again, praying that Ryan would somehow be alright, but then he heard a scuffling and realized his enemy was recovering from the effects of the blast.

Hating himself for having to leave his baby, Clark managed to turn over and see the bad guy grasping for his gun. When he had fallen backwards, he had caught his hand on a nearby bench and the weapon had dropped perilously close to the shattered window. There was no way Kent could retrieve it in time, but he could remove it from the equation. Summoning all the breath he had left in his lungs, Clark focused on his target and blasted the gun straight out into the blackness of night- freezing it solid as an extra precaution so that it couldn’t be used again anytime soon. Exhaling so hard cost him dearly, and he lay back, winded.

“You think I need a gun to kill you, Kent?” The thug clambered up using the bench for leverage, and then launched himself at Clark like a speeding freight train. “I’ll do it with my bare hands, and after you’re dead I’ll use your brat for a soccer ball!”

Clark saw the tackle coming, and tried to spin out of the way, but he was still on the floor from his earlier fall, and there was no chance to move fast enough. His foe slammed into him hard, sending them both rolling sideways with the force of the attack. Then the bad guy was grabbing at something nearby like a maniac, and at the last minute Clark guessed why as he tried to wrestle the man off.

The whole floor was still under minor construction after being rented out to various associate companies of Luthorcorp. Tools and small building items littered the uncompleted offices where workers had simply left them ready to resume their morning shift. Anyone of the implements could be used as a weapon if in the wrong hands. And an air powered heavy duty nail gun was now in very wrong hands.

The villain swung it around and pulled the trigger, amazed that the compressor that powered it was still running. “Woo, just the toy I was looking for…” Large metal fasteners fired from the tool like it was meant for doing mortal damage, not woodwork. The nails smashed into a nearby partition, ripping timber and sending splintered shards out in every direction. “Now then, shall we see who is the better man?”

“Hardly a fair fight…” Clark clenched his teeth and attempted to hold the nail gun at bay, but his adversary was pinning him down easily with the effects of the meteors. With every intake of air the cop sensed his muscular arms giving way to the make-shift weapon.

“I never fight fair; you should know that by now!” The inflection indicated more than just this one evening’s encounter, but the villain said no more. He could easily see in Clark’s eyes that he had given all the strength he had left to blow the gun into oblivion. Now it would be simple to finish the cop from Smallville.

Yanking the cumbersome tool with one deft maneuver, the thug whipped it around out of Kent’s grip and straight into the side of his jacket. He didn’t pause to say anything poetic, or indeed to leer. Instead he pulled the lever, keeping pressure on until every projectile had been dispelled into Clark’s body.

On any other day, in any other place, the nails would have simply bounced from the cop’s flesh. Here though, Kent was mortal while ever he remained trapped above the fortieth floor, encompassed in the deadly meteor radiation. At point blank range the industrial sized spikes had ripped straight into him, tearing normally impenetrable alien tissue like paper.

The bad guy stepped back and dropped the now empty tool, intent on examining his handy work. It clattered to the carpet near Ryan, but he didn’t notice the baby. Instead, he leaned close as Clark clasped a bloodied hand over the mass of entry wounds, “I soon learned meteor tainted weapons were no good against you. Take out the bullet and you heal, pull out the knife and you heal, but up here,” He gestured in the air with his arms, “While you’re trapped within these ‘special’ walls you’re even more vulnerable than us humans.”

Clark shook from his injuries and the kryptonite, but refused to be taunted. All he could do was steal a glance at his son, and pray that if he died, at least Ryan might live. Please don’t let him die…I’ll gladly take his place…

“Ah, I see you’re still thinking of the infant!” The thug pulled back his sleeve and nodded at his wrist watch. “I’m sure you felt the second blast? It was a little early, but by now it will have sealed of your friends from escaping, or indeed from coming up here and rescuing you. In about five minutes, a third blast will cut anyone left off from reaching the roof. Effectively, you’ll all die here Detective Kent, if not from your wounds, then from the ensuing inferno you’re caught in…”

Clark licked the left side of his lip as he felt a thick liquid dribble from it. The salty iron taste told him it was blood. “You’re sealing your own men in as well, leaving them behind like lost sheep.” I have to stall; I have to keep him away from Ryan …

“I was never a shepherd, Mr. Kent. I’m more the wolf who eats the missing flock,” A gust of wind blew through the open window, tousling his dark hair, and the villain sensed it was time to escape or be left behind, “I’ll leave you now, but before I go I’ll just make sure Junior stays asleep…shall we say forever?”

Ryan still hadn’t moved, he hadn’t even cried from his fall. Clark had tried to use his x-ray vision twice to check on the infant, but his eyesight was scrolling in and out like he was on a rollercoaster with a hangover. The cop was helpless, and his opponent knew it.

Without the tiniest bit of remorse the bad guy sauntered over to the baby, making sure he took enough time to make Kent hang on his every step, and writhe in his own blood trying to drag his damaged body over to Ryan. When Clark was once again in reach of the infant the villain smirked and rubbed his hands together in anticipation. Then, pulling his right foot back he made it all too clear what he was going to do.

Clark’s fingers dug deep into the carpet as he lay on his stomach, attempting to crawl the small excruciating distance between himself and the baby. A blood trail ran behind him, but it was of little consequence. Chloe was wrong, Ryan’s mortal, the meteors in the walls didn’t affect him like they did me! He didn’t even cry when he was near them… I can’t let this monster kick him to death…If he is still alive…

The awful truth was though, that there was nothing Clark could do to stop this tormentor have his ultimate reprisal. He swung his buckskin boot back again, watching the cop’s shuddering form and panicked gaze, and enjoying the feeling of power it evoked.

Moisture and fury welled in Kent’s eyes as he managed one last push forward, and then the thug let loose his malevolent kick towards Ryan…
