Don't mess with JS

Even in little Clark stories? That could get really weird! (Like in "Good Morning," for instance. ) HAD1, I agree with you completely! |

Paranoid Schizophrenic!!!!!
|
I'm not sure when I'll get around to posting more guys, but here's the answer to some of your questions... 7.55am Lois Lane’s Jeep. Clark looked casually out onto Lex’s driveway as Lois pulled up for the gateman to let them exit. He had purposefully waited until they had some privacy before referring to the case, even though Lex could find out all he wanted with just one call. It wasn’t that Clark didn’t trust his old friend, but department rules were made to be adhered to. “So, are you ever going to tell me how I know the new victim?” There was an edge to Kent’s voice as he waited for his partner to reply. Any death was a tragedy, but if it was someone close he didn’t know how he’d react after recent events. Was this really part of the original crime, or the previous night’s madman leaving a calling card that he knew every move Kent made? Lane stepped off the brake and gently applied more gas as she pulled away. “Don’t panic; it’s no one from recent years…” She checked her mirror and quickly speeded up to join the nearby freeway out to Jensen’s. “It’s just that when I heard the name I knew I’d heard you mention it. Well, Chloe mention it to be precise. Something about a minty kiss all those years ago…” Lois smiled and her eyes sparkled with mirth at her cousin’s little joke. Clark wasn’t quite so amused. The kiss had been kind of funny, although embarrassed was all he’d felt at the time. Now though, the memory only brought back hurt as he realized who the body must be. “You found Kyle Tippet out at Jensen’s?” It was the last name he had expected, and his questioning timbre made it obvious. “Molly called it in this morning while I was giving Captain Manning a quick briefing on last night.” Lane flicked on the left hand turn signal and exited the freeway. “He didn’t want to bother you after what you’d been through, but then when I said you knew the victim…” Clark nodded and loosened his tie. Even with all his abilities his feelings were still all-too human, and he suddenly felt both hot and cold at the same time. How can all this be happening? “For awhile I thought you were going to tell me the body was of that kid, Michael. It would have been so easy for the killer to think he witnessed the first murder.” He admitted. Lane took another left and slowed as she approached the derelict chemical facility. More police vehicles filled the roadway, including Molly’s car and an as yet unused ‘meat-wagon’. “As soon as we got the call I thought of him too. I could see a motive behind that, but why Kyle Tippet? What connects him to our good doctor?” Lois finally filled an empty spot just in front of the original yellow police tapes that cordoned off the building, and then killed the Jeep’s engine. “Have you even seen Kyle since your Smallville years?” She climbed out and grabbed her purse as she quizzed her partner. “No, I haven’t, and to be honest I didn’t ever expect too.” Kent joined Lane as she flashed her badge at the on duty patrolman, and they both ducked under the tape to meet Molly at the new crime scene. “I always thought he’d keep a low profile, I just don’t get why he’d be part of the Fleischman case.” Let alone how he’d get murdered. If he touched the killer he could control them, surely? He kept the latter part to himself until they had more a more discreet environment. “Kent, I didn’t expect you out here this morning!” Molly scowled as they approached, but her real affection for both cops shone through the icy façade with amazing clarity. “I heard you were hurt in that fiasco last night?” The statement was more of a question as she looked the athletic cop up and down for signs of injury. “Should you really be working?” “Why am I always having to tell you I’m fine, Molly?” Kent answered a question with another, but the ME didn’t seem annoyed. She waved a gloved hand dismissively and pointed to the vat where Kyle had found his last resting place. “They told me you knew this guy, and to not let anyone else near the scene until you arrived…” Molly’s eyes narrowed. “Whatever happened to not letting cops get involved in cases they might be connected too?” “I think Manning wanted Clark’s opinion, seeing as this was our case, and he knew Kyle Tippet better than anyone else. I mean, from what I know the guy was a recluse no one’s seen for over ten years.” Molly scoffed. “Someone’s seen him, and from the state of the corpse I’d say they didn’t like what they saw.” Kent ignored the female sparring, and checked out the evidence while the two women had their usual playful exchange. He didn’t move from the spot, but honed in on his old friend with his all-seeing eyes instead. The vat was again filled with some form of formaldehyde, only this time it seemed thicker. Kyle’s body hung in it like he was suspended weightless in the air. There was no bullet hole; in fact there was no entry wound of any kind. The murderer had apparently caved Tippet’s skull in with some type of blunt weapon. Using his x-ray vision, Clark inspected the crushed bone that had once been a cranium and soon spotted pieces of something embedded in the canyon-sized crater of a hole. From the chemical makeup and appearance he deduced it was concrete. Someone hit Kyle with a piece of concrete? It seemed impossible. Or maybe they bashed his head against a wall, but the sheer blunt force required for that severe an injury… Moving away from the corroding vat, Kent scoured the surrounding area for any other clues, or indeed the return of the infamous size 14 boot prints. The same thin layer of dust and grime covered the ground as before. Nothing had been disturbed further except for Molly’s encroachment onto the scene to get more samples. The ME’s tiny shoe marks were the only fresh tracks in a 360 degree circle around the massive containers that filled the room. Clark kneeled and intensified his gaze. It was ridiculous to think that someone could move all that liquid and a body without leaving some mark in the grime. He studied the dust and cobwebs at a molecular level, but still there were no clues on how the feat had been achieved. “See something?” Kent finally heard Lois ask from behind him. “It’s what I don’t see that’s bothering me.” Clark pointed to the floor and let both women deliberate just what he was getting at. Molly guessed first at the sight of her own small imprints in the dirt. “There are no new tracks since the first murder, well except for mine.” The ME looked up towards the ceiling. She’d seen movies were people lowered themselves down on wires and ropes, but that was to stealthily steal something, not dump a body where it would obviously be found by the police. Kent rubbed his temple and whirled back around. Maybe he was too close to this thing to be objective now, or maybe their case just joined the Twilight Zone or The X-Files. To add to the enigma, more footsteps resounding on the toughened floor signaled a newcomer’s arrival. Everyone looked up, expecting it to be a patrolman or CSI, but instead it was their superior. Manning nodded genially as he placed his hands in his gray trouser pockets and surveyed the scene for himself. His moustache twitched as he let his gaze stop on Clark a moment. “How’s your sister doing?” Clark smiled, but knew the query was to soften the tension. Manning wasn’t heartless, but he almost never came to an incident personally like this unless there was a pressing need, and asking about Karyn didn’t fall into that category. “She’s doing much better, Sir. Thanks.” Wait for it…something has to come out soon… “What about you? O’Halloran and Stillwater half expected you to be in the hospital yourself this morning…” The police chief walked closer to the vat, inspecting everything with a keen eye as he spoke. He liked Kent- almost everyone did these days, even though he still refused to draw his gun. But there was something plain bizarre about the ex-farmboy the chief just couldn’t fathom. “I’ll live, Sir.” Clark touched his side and feigned a small wince. He’d grown accustomed to having to fake the odd injury. Sometimes, if he was in a mischievous mood he could even fool Chloe. “Can I ask if you’ve anymore news on catching up with the chopper or Perp from last night?” If Manning isn’t going to tell us why he’s here, I may as well come on out and ask. There’s too much going on to waste precious time. The police chief sighed. The news he had wasn’t good. In truth, he really didn’t want to have to tell two of his best detectives why they, and half the city’s officials had been targeted, but they deserved to know. Manning jerked his head slightly, indicating it was for Kent and Lane’s ears only, and the three moved out into a small empty storeroom to talk. Molly huffed, but returned to the puzzle of the body that had apparently materialized from thin air. If they didn’t want her to know, then she wasn’t going to get all offended about it. “You know something, don’t you?” Lane got out the first question in privacy, and was a little curt to her superior. Clark might not exactly tire, but she was exhausted and very unhappy about the way events were spiraling ever downward. Manning let the remark slide. The dark circles under Lane’s eyes told the tale of how she was feeling, and even the ever-fresh Kent looked positively down-at-heel for a change. “We think we know who targeted Lex’s Plaza last night, and why.” He inhaled and shot Clark an apologetic glance. “It seems you were right to query Lucas Luthor’s death yesterday. More extensive tests have shown the man killed in prison was in fact a genetic copy. Nothing shocking really, considering Luthorcorp was experimenting with the technology some ten years ago…” “And were shut down for it twice, as I recall.” Lois chimed in, already feeling anger rising at the US prison systems failings. “Didn’t the Dinsmore thing learn them anything?” “That was never actually pinned on Luthorcorp.” Kent corrected his partner, and then asked the next question. “If Lucas had all his assets confiscated by the government, how did he manage to finance such an elaborate escape plan? It takes mega bucks and technology to clone someone and then make the switch. Not to mention pay for everything he had done last night.” Manning moved to what was left of the storeroom window. It had been smashed into a spider’s web of intricate pieces, just like the facts on both cases Kent was involved in. Somehow though, daylight still shone through the maelstrom of cracked glass and grime. Eventually, daylight would shine on the clues they had too, and the mess would all fit together. The chief spun back around. “Not only were his monetary assets frozen, but half his crime lord friends were either arrested, or alienated enough never to deal with him again. I don’t know who helped fund this, but someone sure has. What we need to find out is why.” Lois looked to Clark and rolled her eyes. It was a gesture that reminded him of Chloe back in their ‘Torch’ days. “We have two cases,” she griped sarcastically, “and all we need to know for both is how and why, and they’re solved. Jeez, you're not asking for much!” In exasperation the young cop threw her arms up and stormed out to her Jeep. Standing in some dank storeroom wasn’t going to get to the bottom of anything, and right now all her body wanted to do was crash into some nice cozy bed. Kent didn’t need sleep, but she sure did. The trouble was, with Lucas back out on the streets could she, or any of the others ever really sleep soundly again? TBC... |

Don't worry, Lucas isn't the main focus in this. He's simply a means to an end even though he got cloned to escape ;) Kyle served a purpose too, bless him. |
