Don't mess with JS
|
According to Allison Mack (http://www.allison-mack.com/exclusive4.htm), Jonathan was written out of these two episodes so JS could get ready to direct "Talisman." Talk about your terrible timing!! All that set-up for a huge plotline in "Legacy," and then he's nowhere in sight for two episodes? I'm sure other characters will talk about him, but that will put him in "tell, not show," mode (like in "Legacy" where Clark was talking about his jumping in the truck and taking off), and I hate that whenever it's used. And especially when it's Jonathan. I guess if JS needed the time, he needed the time. But I wish they could have scheduled his "Smallville" directorial debut for next season, when things (I hope) will have calmed down a bit. |

Jonathan's Lady

Wait, wait, wait, wait. WAIT. JONATHAN is not in Memoria??? Considering what is supposed to happen to Clark, I can't imagine what they plan to do with that. How could Jonathan not be there?? ::sigh:: |

That's exactly what I was thinking. If Clark is finding out new stuff about Jor-El, Jonathan REALLY needs to be there. Not to mention that he's probably going to be really shaken by the whole experience and will need a comforting dad-hug or two! I wonder if she might have got her details wrong, and Jonathan has maybe just one or two very small scenes in each one? I'd take even that over no appearance at all. Please, dear writers? Pretty please?? |

Don't mess with JS

I'm not really that excited about tonight's episode -- especially compared with this time last week, when I was so antsy I could hardly sit still! I guess a lot of it is because "Legacy" came after a long hiatus and "Truth" doesn't. But also, I think I'm not excited because it sounds like Jonathan's not in this one -- and paradoxically, also because we may find out more about what's happening to him, and I'm dreading what that might be! If he didn't have all this trauma going on, it wouldn't be such a big deal how much screentime he got, even though I like him to get a lot of it. I do like Chloe a lot -- she's the best character outside the Kent family, I think, even on a show full of great characters -- but I don't think she's going to suffer any permanent damage here, so it's hard to get worked up over that. (Although I do expect her scene with Martha to be extremely interesting!) Well, maybe it's just as well. It's probably not good for the nerves to get that worked up week after week! But I was just wondering if anyone else felt the same way. |

It's funny, but the episodes I think are going to be great ultimately let me down, and I usually get more worked up (In a good or bad way) by the episodes I least expect it from. I think there was too much hype about Legacy though. |

Wait a minute -- Jonathan WAS there! Well, sort of. John Schneider did the voice-over for the Home Depot commercial. Hey, it's better than nothing! :) |

OMG I so missed Jonathan, which only confirms that nothing would be the same without him. I kept thinking "Where is Jonathan? Why isn't Clark saying 'OMG dad, do *not* let Chloe within a town of you.' " And then of course Jonathan would freak out and do his protective dad routine. You have to have that, *especially* when Lionel is being Lionel. It's a whole balance thing. I really thought the ep cried out for a touching Jonathan/Clark scene after Lex tells Lionel: "It doesn't matter. You'll never give it to me." :sigh: |

Happy thought--JS would have to know whether he is back next season--I would think. And I would imagine he would want to le his character be wrapped up properly if he were *not.* Given that, I don't think he would want to be removed from the final eps this season if he weren't going to be back, even to direct. Does that make sense? |

Good point about the Lex/Lionel scenes. But you know, we've seen so much good J/C stuff already, it came automatically to mind during these particular Lex/Lionel scenes -- for you and me, of course, but I would suspect for a lot of other people also. What goes on between those two is all the sadder because they've showed us so many times what a really great father/son relationship looks like. Good point about JS too. I think from what we've read that he's really fond of the character and would want to do right by him if this were really the end. Holding the thought . . . holding the thought . . . By the way, it occurs to me that if Jonathan hadn't been written out of this one, Chloe might have got some information about that infuriating deal with Jor-El out of him! What an opportunity lost! :( |

Exactly! Maybe Clark should try some of that truth stuff! lol. But you know, it was just too strange. Here Martha is saying that Jonathan is depressed and not himself and yet no one is with him or anything? And Martha doesn't come in and say "Hey,where's your dad?" just to cover that someone knows where he's at and he didn't just disappear again. That wasn't a very good cover for not having him around and they better do a lot better in memoria IMO. And yeah, the good scenes came to mind but it made me want one lol. Like someone mentioning pizza and it makes you feel like "man I could so go for that right now." lol |

"It doesn't matter. You'll never give it to me I'm new to the board the group. I just wanted to respond to this. I just got started with this show (ya, i'm late but better late than never. It seems to me that maybe Lex would sure be better off if Jonathan was his father. Lionel just has no redeeming qualities at all. You can see the differences with our SUPERDAD and STUPID Dad :D |

Hey AK! Welcome to the forum
:) Yes, Jonathan would have been a wonderful father for Lex, but unfortunately he and Lex are not close. First, because Lex ran over Clark in the first episode and then because Lex lied about some things and then of course because Lex is Lionel's son. It's a shame because Lex thinks Jonathan is great and would love his approval. Poor Lex. He has the devil for a dad, who could poke your eyes out and then fire you for bleeding on him. Makes ya love Jonathan even more. 8) |
