The WB description says that this mysterious girl who shows up in the season finale, whoever she is, forces Jonathan to reveal the truth about the deal he made. It occurred to me that, if he tells what the deal is before it actually comes to pass, maybe they're not going to make him actually go through with it after all. It's kind of a technicality, but the rule on TV is usually "show, don't tell," and although the "SV" writers have been known to break that rule, I don't think they would go so far as to tell and then show what they just told. Too redundant. Perhaps when Clark finds out beforehand from Jonathan what the deal is, that gives Clark time to figure out some way to save him? (And if we're right that Jor-El is going to turn out to be not such a bad guy after all, then maybe that was his idea all along -- another test or some kind of a growing experience for Clark.)

Just a thought -- kind of an incoherent one, but a thought nonetheless!

Jonathan's Lady
The more I think about it, the more confused I get. I keep coming back to: why won't Jonathan tell? Is he not supposed to? If he's not supposed to then why does Grace(?) make him? I just cannot believe Jonathan would promise something for Clark--like say Clark would do something or go somewhere. And if he did, I think he would say he did because it involves Clark's life. On top of that, Jonathan isn't well. What could she possibly think would persuade Clark to leave when I can't imagine he would leave Jonathan right now. That brings me back to:There has to something Clark does for Jonathan. Maybe Jonathan knew all along that this is what would happen, that Clark would be expected to sacrafice his choice of staying to save Jonathan and we all know Jonathan, he's going to clam up and not say a word, get sicker and sicker before he would allow his son to be forced to do something he didn't want to do that could possibly change the course of his life. The answer better make sense, that's all I know

"The more I think about it, the more confused I get."

Amen to that!!

My guess is that Jonathan won't tell because he wants to spare Martha and Clark the knowledge of whatever it is as long as he can. Especially Clark, because he knows Jonathan agreed to whatever it is for his sake, so he'll be facing a boatload of guilt (not that he isn't already) when he finds out.

For a while I also thought that he might have promised something on Clark's behalf -- e.g., that Clark would go away. But Jonathan has said certain things that make me think that can't be it -- for instance, "It's not your concern." If he'd promised that Clark would do something, that would most definitely be Clark's concern.

Of course, Jonathan's well-being is also Clark's concern, but not in the same way. At least, that's how Jonathan would think of it. (Did it ever strike you that our guy is too humble for his own good? :( ) But if he honestly does expect Clark to abandon him to some sad fate, I think he's got the biggest shock of his life coming.

Anyway, I'm getting nervous now about tonight. In the past four episodes we've had "Kal-El," depression, remorse, spontaneous graveyard visits, knock-down drag-out fights, more heart problems, and mysterious healing powers out of nowhere. What bizarre manifestation of the kooky Kryptonian (I like that phrase of yours, Smallvillian) are we going to see next?? I'm almost afraid to ask!

(By the way, DTS has "Talisman" screencaps up now. There are some wonderful ones of the healing scene and the scene after.)

I think Jor-el proabaly took over JK so that way he'd always be with his son. That was probably why JK was able to heal him like that. Then again it's just an theory that makes a lot of sense to me.

The thing I can't get on board with about Jonathan being "posessed"--

What would JE really have to gain? As soon as Clark found out, he would never want to see him again for taking Jonathan from him. Now some might say, 'well once Jonathan died, it wouldn't matter,' and yet we were left with Talisman, an ep that shows JE can heal who he wants, when he wants. So again JE looks like a schmuck.

I do find it extremely interesting that we were just shown the fact that Jor-el can still heal people, given we haven't seen anything like that since last year with the ship. It makes me think they didn't want to pull it out of nowhere at the last minute. I can just see the discussion.

"What are we going to do about Jonathan?"

"Hmmm, we could bring the ship back"

"The ship was blown up, stupid."

*blink* "Oh yeah."

"How about we have Jor-el heal him?"

"But we've never said he could heal people. It always came from the ship. I don't think fans would like us just pulling that out of nowhere."

"You mean like Pete's drag racing? Boy were we raked over the coals for that one. Well, what if we have Clark get stabbed and then heal him?"

"Heeey, I think you're on to something!"

;)
