Jonathan's Lady
|
Don't you know we love when you give Clark advice? :coolyo: You just go ahead and tell Clark what you think. So few Kent family scenes *sigh* hopefully there will be plenty next week, but I have to say Jonathan is still creeping me out this week. He's way too mellow about things now. Maybe he just doesn't want to have another heart attack?? :o I don't know, he's just so...un-Jonathan in some ways. Doesn't trust his instincts? That's one thing about Jonathan, he always was so sure that he was doing the right thing. And now he's just kind of blah about everything. I'm still highly suspicious of this whole thing. And of course *nothing* was revealed in the trailer for the finale :wall: |

Nothing? Did anyone else happen to notice a very brief shot in the preview of Jonathan's eyes looking rather strange? Of course, it went so quick it was hard for me to tell if that impression was right or just coming from my own worry. Perhaps someone could get a screencap up here so that we could tell for sure? But I'm feeling seriously freaked out here, people. . . . |

Never mind, I found one at DTS. Will try to post it here. His eyes aren't looking as strange as I thought, just kind of intense and serious. I think the freaky thing about it is that it's such a close-up, and was only there for a second, so I was left thinking, "What was THAT all about?" and having no idea. Okay, let's give this a whirl . . . Posted Image Nope, sorry, can't get it to work. But if you want to and have the patience, you can go to DTS, to the "Covenant" trailer screencaps (the link is right at the top of the homepage), and go to picture #35 of 44. |

Thanks, that's it. Doesn't it seem a little odd-looking, especially for a preview picture? |

Are we absolutely sure that's Jonathan?
 Anyway--I was thinking again, which is dangerous. All Clark's friends are leaving: Lana, Pete, probably Chloe, things get tense with Lex. Maybe Clark actually *wants* to leave??? But what about his family, dang it?? Will Jonathan get better? I don't think I'd be okay with anything other then Clark leaving because he has to to save Jonathan. But if he's leaving, Where are Martha and Jonathan? Don't they want to be there? All I see are the girl and Clark standing in the middle of the cave. This finale is gonna kill me I tell ya! |

Truthfully, to me it looks just like Michael Crawford (my favorite singer, original "Phantom of the Opera" star). I'd put up a picture of him if I weren't too lazy right now to go find one and post it, but perhaps I will later. Maybe MC and JS were separated at birth?
:D But MC's not on the show, so that's out. In fact, no other blue-eyed blond man is on the show, at least not as a regular. So I'm pretty sure it's Jonathan. The finale pictures over at K-site -- not the trailer screencaps, the still photos released by the WB -- show Jonathan in the cave. So did the "Covenant" trailer that ran last week. So maybe it was just the angle of the shots from last night's trailer that made it look like those two were alone. Don't worry -- I just KNOW Clark's not going to abandon his dad in his hour of need!! There's very, very little that I'm sure of where this weird finale is concerned, but I'm sure of that at least. |

I'm the queen of the double posts these days. Hope no one sends me to my room for it! But here's one thing I've been thinking ever since this Jonathan strangeness started in "Legacy," and I just wanted to run it by you guys. Jonathan, as I've said in another thread, is a humble man. He has pride about some things (accepting financial help, for instance), but not about himself. Several of the other characters on this show, in difficult circumstances, start to get a little self-centered and start throwing themselves pity parties and even turning on other people. Jonathan is more mature. He recognizes the part he himself played in causing what's happening to him, even though he exaggerates it far too much, and is determined to take all the responsibility on himself. Because he's not conceited and can recognize his own faults, the first person he turns on is himself, not anyone else. (Remember what he said to Martha in "Suspect"? I think myself it was pretty silly of her to keep that watch and try to hide it, even though she was planning to give it back, and it's no wonder he got upset. But he was convinced that everything that had happened was his fault and didn't blame her at all.) Take the graveyard scene. I wrote somewhere before the episode, when we were still trying to figure out from a single blurry photo who was in the graveyard, that Jonathan wasn't the type to go mooning through the graveyard wringing his hands over his troubles. Well, it WAS him, but he wasn't doing a "Woe is me" act. He was feeling remorse over mistakes he'd made and wishing he were a better, stronger person. So in a way, this is very Jonathan-like behavior after all. It's just that we're suddenly seeing a lot of a side of him that we've only seen glimpses of before. All that said, though, I sure hope he gets back up to a normal, healthy level of self-esteem soon! Recognizing and repenting your sins is one thing; morbidly exaggerating every little mistake you've made is another. End of ramble! |

Your welcome for posting the pic. I think it's something with DTS that was keeping you from posting it. I put the image on photobucket, and it worked. *shrugs* Anyway, you make some really good points, and please, feel free to post all you want! We're not mean like a certan other site! ;) |

Actually, I think that is Lionel, not Jonathan. They've done close-ups of Jonathan's eyes before, and I really don't think this one is him. Could be wrong though... Sorry for intruding - just wanted to voice my opinion on the eyes. |

I'll be darned. I never thought it could be Lionel. :/ Whoever would have thought those two could be mistaken for each other?? (I think I can hear Jonathan throwing up at the very thought!) I'm still not sure, though, because doesn't Lionel have darker eyebrows than that? Oieura, welcome! So glad you came on over here! |

lol at Jonathan throwing up  ! That's why I didn't say who I thought it was lol, just asked if everyone was sure because it looked like Lionel to me and who wants to say Lionel could be mistaken for Jonathan?? :o  But Jonathan is the one with darker and thicker eyebrows. I wipped out my DVD's just to be sure about Lionel and he does have very light and thinner eyebrows than Jonathan. It just didn't look like Jonathan to me. I even wondered if maybe it could be someone other than Lionel but I'm going to go with Lionel. |

The more I think about it, the more I think you guys must be right. I can't believe I didn't see it before. I'm feeling very stupid now.
 (Hides in corner) But if so, then what you said earlier is true, Smallvillian -- there was no Jonathan in the trailer at all! :( |

That was my response too! Thanks for welcoming me everyone, and thanks to you Renee for inviting me over here. I love this board! I don't know if I will have a lot to add all the time - you all carry on such intresting discussions over here, and bring up points I would probably never considered. I don't generally analyze what I'm watching, so it's intresting to come and read what you think about the different episodes! Don't feel bad Renee - I debated with myself a long time as to whether it is Jonathan or Lionel - and I feel like I KNOW JRS' eyes! It was the eyebrow thing that threw me. I even got up and walked across the room to look to see if a different point of view would make a difference. I also found a picture of a close up of Jonathan's eyes and compared the two and them found other pictures of Lionel and compared them.... I still think it's Lionel, even though the eyebrows look like Jonathan's. It will be intresting to watch next week and see who's eyes they really are! |

Oh, we analyze, all right. I in particular tend to overanalyze sometimes! Hope my bad habits don't rub off on you! But it's fun . . . except when you find yourself lying awake half the night trying to figure out what on earth is going through Jonathan's mind and what Jor-El is doing to him. Then you feel like calling the little men in the white coats with the butterfly net to come get you. But USUALLY it's all in good fun -- hope you'll enjoy it! |

It took me a while to be able to articulate myself in my head now let's try it on 'paper' lol I agree that poor Jonathan puts a lot on himself as does Clark which is another thing that shows Clark is *Jonathan's* son not Jor-el's but I digress. Anyway, what was I saying? Oh yes, Jonathan does turn on himself but usually after the decision he made didn't work out the way he expected it to not right off the bat like that. He always seemed to at least want to appear to have all the anwsers as a comfort zone to Clark. And in that scene he was saying he wasn't sure before anything happened, which I thought was unusual and kind of stuck out for me because he gave it no further reasoning " I don't trust my instincts as much as I once did because..." Right now the statement is just hanging out there. :/ |

That's true. I think he said that because he's dwelling a lot on past mistakes -- which in itself is unusual for him. From what he's said recently, I think there are two mistakes in particular that haunt him: turning his back on Clark in "Exodus," and taking the key to the cave and beating up Lionel in "Legacy" -- which might be seen as two mistakes, except they were so closely tied together. Of course, the key pretty much drew him there. And beating up Lionel is hardly a mistake in any of our eyes, I think. :) And as for the "Exodus" incident, it's not like he hasn't already paid for that one a dozen times over. :( |
