Just a bit of idle speculation. Kara said that JE had sent Jonathan "many warnings" that he ignored. The only clear warnings we've seen were three instances of the key calling him/leading him various places in "Legacy." And you could take the healing from "Talisman" as another such warning, I guess -- JE's little way of saying, "I'm still in control here." But what if the heart attack was a warning too? I thought it was caused by weakness from his being blasted in "Exile." But what if JE actually directly caused his heart to stop? And then hindered his recovery afterwards so he had to keep going back to the hospital? Creepy!! I have no idea if that's the case, of course -- just throwing the idea out there.

Maybe JE told Jonathan he would die if he broke the promise (in fact, I would think it likely -- I kind of wish they'd mentioned something like that in "Covenant"), and that's the source of the famous words "Not now -- not yet."

I instantly thought of the heart attack as a warning when she said that. Wow, that is creepy. I'm telling ya JE is evil! :p

The original spoilers said Jonathan's health was directly related to him not handing over Clark and as of right when JE started to strangle him, I believe it. The really suckfest news is that Clark didn't even *think* of bargaining and saying "Heal him and I'll go with you!" And it's pretty obvious from Kara's treatment of Jonathan as an extention of JE that JE hates Jonathan and would rather kill him than heal him. Does that mean poor Jonathan is stuck with his heart condition?? :(

I wouldn't be surprised. :(

As for Clark, it didn't look like JE was in much of a bargaining mood, unless the bargain was on his own terms. I have a feeling he would have come back with "No, you do what I want right this minute and don't stand there setting conditions!" And Clark wouldn't want to take chances when JE could have tightened that noose any second.

Kind of ironic about Kara, isn't it? We were so worried for a while about Jonathan getting taken over and becoming the "voice of Jor-El," when it was going to happen with a completely different character. Of course, now that we know for sure how JE feels about Jonathan, I guess there was never any danger of his wanting to inhabit Jonathan's mind. "Eww, an icky human, and one that defies me at that! I might get cooties!"

Someone in the K-Site fan fiction forum wrote a funny imaginary dialogue between Jonathan and JE once -- sort of an "Odd Couple" thing. I'll have to dig it up and post a link to it here when I get a chance. Once again we desperately need some light relief! :(

Was it the one about the barn being the FOS? That has was frikkin histarical.

JE: I really don't like that man

Jonathan calls from down stairs: The feeling is mutual

JE: Loser

Jonathan: Ghost

The really funny thing is that it ended up being not that far off!

Back to Jonathan. The writers better make him better somehow :( After all this he deserves something good :(

Yep, that's the one! :) I love the part where Jonathan calls him a jackass. (Especially after last night!)

As for having Jonathan get well -- I don't know if they'll do that or not, but it would be so great if they did. You know how sometimes fans will send things to a show's producers to save the show? Like the "Roswell" fans sent hundreds of bottles of tobasco sauce? Maybe we should send bottles of heart medicine to the producers to get them to save Jonathan. Except it could get kind of expensive. . . .

lol--well maybe not heart medicine. Maybe just paper hearts :)

Oh and I forget where that was but it wasn't in the fic folder. I think it was in the spoiler folder in a thread speculating about where Clark would end up and whether it would be the FOS. :) "Jackass" LOL

Found it! Thanks for the help, Smallvillian. This was inspired by someone asking what if the barn became the Fortress of Solitude. Credit goes to Eric524892 at K-Site (I'll post the link here if anyone wants it):

"(Jor-El's image is projected much like it was in the movie)

Jor-El: My son, the time has come for you to learn about your great heritage. Krypton was a glorious...

(Pete runs up there, excited)

Pete: Yo Clark! You gotta see this!

Clark: Uh...

Jor-El: YOU again?

Pete nods a "hey 'sup?" towards Jor-El.

Pete: Haha that idiot Kenny got his head stuck in a tree.

Clark: Aw man... Father, I will be right back, I promse.

Jor-El: Kal-El, I must insist...

Clark: (leaving) Be back in a sec!

(They leave.)

Jor-El: *sigh*... Ah... stupid Peter Ross...

(A baseball flies through a nearby window, shattering it)

Jor-El: THERE HAS BEEN A BREACH IN THE FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE!

Jonathan (from downstairs): It's a baseball, you jackass...

Jor-El: IT MUST BE REPAIRED

(Jonathan walks up the stairs with a replacement window and tools)

Jonathan: Here ya go, being such a great scientist, this should be a simple task. See ya.

Jor-El: ...

(Jonathan leaves)

Jor-El: (to himself) I don't like that man.

Jonathan (downstairs): The feeling's mutual.

Jor-El: Loser.

Jonathan (downstairs): Ghost."

Now, wouldn't that have been better than what actually DID happen?
