I've seen several people rank the season 3 episodes from best to worst, and I tried it myself but decided it's too hard and takes too long. But I thought it might be fun for us to just tell what our top 5 episodes of the season were, and why. Here are mine:

1) "Exile"
2) "Phoenix"

I was tempted to put "Phoenix" first, because of the Jonathan/Clark fight and because I prefer rehabilitated Clark to bad Clark. But "Exile" is the better made episode. Besides, it has the cave scene, which is pretty much as good as the fight.

3) "Legacy"

I know it's terribly sad and there's way too much Jonathan torture. Watching it -- even watching a scene or two -- always leaves me feeling melancholy. But the story was well told, the various plots thickened, the acting was incredible, and the ending was mind-boggling. (My only real problem with the story was Clark's coming on to Lana because he didn't want to miss opportunities like his father had. Lamest line EVER, Clark, especially with your poor father actually out there in the darkness needing your help! But at least it gave Lana a rare opportunity for selflessness, when she told him he should be looking for Jonathan instead of hanging around her. They should write her that way more often.)

4) "Perry"

Just a fun episode, well written and well directed. Plus, it has the famous tractor fling and John S.'s famous involuntary smirk. And I thought Michael McKean was the best "SV" guest star ever. It will be so great to see him again in season 4!

5) "Resurrection"

Okay, so it was full of plot holes and there was some bad dialogue. It also had some of the best Kent family scenes ever. (FINALLY, Martha actually got something to say about Jonathan's condition besides "I bought some low-sodium turkey"!) And although Garrett was introduced suddenly, I still thought his story was moving and appealing. It made sense to me that he and Clark, more or less in the same boat with sick family members, would have struck up a friendship quickly.

(Besides, this one has -- all together now -- shirtless Jonathan! Woohoo!)

There were so many strong episodes this season that I kept telling myself "Resurrection," with all its flaws, didn't belong in the top 5. But it kept pushing its way in, so I decided to just leave it there.

So that's my list. Anyone else want to give it a try?

Jonathan's Lady
1) Shattered

MR was just so magnificent and they really pulled off the mood that you were feeling what Lex was feeling. You were never quite sure what was real and what wasn't until he was. It was just a outstanding and MR deserves an Emmy for that. Apparently he bearly slept so that he could look that tired and worn out. That's dedication! Besides, Lex find out "the secret"!

2)Memoria

I know! There was no Jonathan, damn it! :bawl: But I have to give props to the story. It was great stuff. Insight into Lex and Clark and a very touching ending. And great continuity with the tape! Can't forget that.

3)Legacy

Oh God, the angst! My friend was so mad at me. I talked her into watching it even though she never watches SV and she cried. Jonathan Kent is a desperate tortured man here, people. He's so angry and depressed that we're not even sure we're watching the same person. I have to say JS was excellent at pulling me into Jonathan's personal hell. Even though I couldn't understand just what he was upset about, I felt his pain and how conflicted and hurt he was. Swann, Lionel, Lex. This all just raised this ep to a new level.

4) Crisis.

Had me on the edge of my seat the whole time AND Jonathan took down his rifle was the protector. Weee. Nuff said :)

5) Perry

This was just written extremey well, was very funny, and just a great hour of tv.

My friend was so mad at me. I talked her into watching it even though she never watches SV and she cried.

I don't blame her! Not to get too far off-topic, but my college roommate did something like that to me once. She loaned me an Agatha Christie novel without warning me about the absolutely bone-chilling twist near the end -- the kind of twist that keeps you up nights. I still haven't forgiven her!!

So does your friend still watch the show, or did that one turn her off?

I'm getting creeped out again!

I'd pick "Talisman" as my sixth favorite, if we'd been listing top 6 instead of top 5. There was so much good stuff in there.

Okay, I would have to say my number one favorite of the season was

Relic

Mainly because you got to see JE as something other than a mean, pushy, abusive (yes, I said abusive) father to Clark. You actually saw the side of him that loved, that wanted...that cried. I'm not saying what he and Louise did together was right, but it showed the "Human" side of JE that we all knew was in there somewhere.

Next on my list is...

Exile

I will NEVER, EVER get tired of watching this episode. It is the most awesome thing to watch. The acting was fantastic, and this episode actually makes me cry when I watch it (if you knew me like my family does, you'd know that that almost NEVER happens). You feel for every person in this episode. (Well, except for Chloe and Lionel, and we ALL know why that is  )

My third ranking favorite is...*drum roll please*

Memoria

There are so many elements of this eppy that I don't even know if I can name them all. I liked how Clark and Martha got to have a moment together unlike the usual Jonathan/Clark moments we see almost every week. As much as I love Johnathan, Martha deserves screentime with her son as well, and the scene was just so perfect, it made me want to go hug my own mom.
I loved how we FINALLY, after three years, discover the single reason why Lionel and Lex are always at odds with one another. It was just such a shocking twist that I did NOT expect in the slightest. It was heartbreaking.

Only two more to go now, and the 4th fave of mine is most definitely...

Extinction.

This might sound totally strange, but I love this episode souly for the scene where Jonathan takes the bullet out of Clark's shoulder. Yes, I do cringe when I see it, but this is one of those rare scenes where Jonathan and Marha really shine TOGETHER, not just one or the other. I can't really explain it, maybe you all know what I mean.

finally, my last fave is

Perry

Aside from the fact that this one is really the only comedy episode we've had through the whole show, this one was just really well done. I mean, how can you go wrong in bringing Perry White to Smallville? It was just an absolute stroke of Genius.

That's my list.

Oh, I know what you mean, Livvie. And I agree. I hope we see many more such scenes in season 4, because they really skimped on them this season.
