From K-site:

"Martha visits Jonathan in the hospital."

From DTS:

"Jonathan is lying in a hospital bed that is attached to monitors. Martha is at his bedside reading aloud to him from a book."

All together now:

:bawl: :bawl: :bawl:

(Thanks to roman for calling my attention to these!)

wha??? and waaaaaa :bawl: And here would be MY question. From that, I would guess he was in a coma from what happened in the cave so what is Clark doing wondering around with Lois then? Bad, Clark. Bad, boy  I feel corrective fic coming on! But we'll have to wait and see :(

My guess would be the same. I've never known anyone in real life who went into a coma, but on TV, it seems that usually it's the unconscious people in the hospital who get read to. So I may have been right when I guessed that he'd start the season in a coma -- but I wish I hadn't been. :(

(Side note: Despite the seriousness of the situation, if it's a Grisham novel she's reading to him, I'm going to fall off my chair laughing. ;) )

If I'm reading the timeline accurately -- and who knows at this point -- it sounds like Clark has only just gotten out of the cave and met up with Lois when the season starts. And the spoilers about him have changed -- they say he doesn't even remember who he is (or at least Lois thinks he doesn't) and she takes him to the hospital. Which leads me back to a previous thought: Suppose he runs into his parents there and can't remember them?? :yipe:

Poor Martha. If it really has been three months, what a dreadful summer she must have had. Jonathan comatose, Clark vanished, and Lord only knows what's happened to the farm without them. And then to have Clark show up and maybe not know her. . . .

Not to mention our poor guy when he wakes up and still has to deal with all those guilt feelings about the deal. As well as his health being more damaged than ever. (Nice touch, writers. He's only the most outdoorsy, physically active member of the whole cast, so why not step in and make him incapable of pursuing the career and the lifestyle he loves?)

Gee, maybe we should start a whole new society: The STOP TORTURING THE KENTS ALREADY Society!

Yes, I can't imagine Jonathan asking Martha to read to him. Maybe I'm wrong but I think he'd just do it himself. Unless it's a newspaper and she's just commenting on what it says in passing--"Oh, it says here..." But if it's been three months, why is he still in the hospital if he's not in a coma? He better no be having more frikkin heart trouble!

None of it says good for the guy.

Clark BETTER remember! Maybe he'll even do something to help Jonathan??? Cuz if the man was in a coma for 3 months, it's *serious.*

Summers just suck for the Kents, don't they? I think I'd just lock myself in the barn come next summer!

You're right, some of that stuff was REALLY weird. I hope they can make it all work!

What I'd like, if Clark truly is having trouble remembering who he is, is for him to see his parents in the hospital and suddenly have it all come flooding back. That could make for a very mushy moment. (And I mean that in a good way. I live for mushy moments.)

I'll tell you one thing I'm glad and relieved about. My worst fear, even more than Jonathan being sick, was that the writers might be dumb enough to have Martha still angry at Jonathan about the deal and have it cause them problems. That would have made ME sick. But what little we know doesn't sound like that at all. Whether he's awake or unconscious, it sounds like she's made her peace with what he had to do and is being the strong, loving Martha we all know she is. Maybe, having had time to think about it, she realizes it was the best he could do under the circumstances. (And I'm looking for another mushy moment between the two of them when he wakes up and she's there -- a sad moment, I'm sure, but also gloriously mushy!) With her helping both him and Clark to get back to normal, I'm hoping we may see much more of Martha and her great qualities this season.
