Jonathan's Lady
|
I missed the opening scenes when it first aired and now, having seen it, to me there is no question that Jonathan did *not* move out of the way of Clark's fist. He was totally prepared to take whatever Clark dished out. Clark intentionally broke the ring. Period. I also wanted to point out that Jonathan totally dominated the fight IMO, all while never once striking the little brat lol. He just used his momentum against him. A tricky little move. Jonathan certainly seems to be an experienced fighter >:) I just can't say enough about how I loved Jonathan during this arc. He was outstanding. During the barn scene with Edge, I wanted to smack the tar out of Clark. Seeing how much devotion he had for Clark to the point of attacking an armed man that he *knew* could very easily kill him...Forget Clark. Jonathan is my hero  |

Hear, hear! I didn't know you'd missed the beginning of "Phoenix" before! Bummer! But I'm glad you've finally seen it. That fight scene is so great (and yeah, gotta love the belt loop maneuver). I watched it again tonight and found myself cheering, "Go, Jonathan! Kick his butt!" :) |

Yes! And do you notice no matter how many times Clark came after him, he never got angry? If anything he just looked so sad
:( And I did find myself cheering when Clark would fall on his face lol I was like "OOooo, he schooled you: a** woopin' 101. You're not so bad without the upper hand are you, Clarkie?" Originally I missed until the part were Jonathan is laying on the ground and Clark is worried. I read the transcrips and saw the captures but didn't see it till now :) |

Yeah Jonathan totally kicked butt! I noticed he didn't hold back at all. He knew Clark could take it and he certainly gave it to him! Way to go Jonathan! :coolyo: I really hated the rest of it where the Morgan Edge flunkies kept bashing Jonathan on the head and in the face. I was yelling at them. "Dang it! Quit knocking poor Jonathan on the head!" I found myself wanting to go and wipe the blood off him and take care of him. Poor baby! :( |

Exactly! And yes, I do believe Clark could have gotten to them both. Human relex is not that fast. They would have to realize he had moved and then pull the trigger, which would be plenty of time for him to have gotten to the both IMO. And I don't even want to mention that Clark is so dumb that he doesn't even say "I'll go get it," step out of the room, and cut himself. No, he stands there and cuts himself. You could just see Jonathan feeling ill with the thought that Clark has just shown these people his weakness. I just wanted to smack Clark, that's what I wanted. |

Every time I see that barn scene, I realize what a tough acting assignment it must have been for John and Annette. They're supposed to be watching horrible things happen to their only son, and for the most part they can't do a thing but sit or stand there and watch. John finally gets to do some action hero stuff, but Annette hardly gets to do a thing except look shocked and horrified. (Kind of set the tone for the rest of the season, I guess! ) I have to say that what Clark did in that scene has never bothered me. I really don't think he could have got to both of them in time -- yes, he's fast, but he'd have to go in two directions, and it doesn't take long to pull a trigger. And maybe it was dumb to reveal his weakness in front of a bunch of thugs, but he was probably afraid of what they might do to his parents if he left the room. It would be hard to think straight in a situation like that. I'll tell you what DOES get me, though -- when Jonathan tells Clark later not to be so hard on himself. I want to say, "Yes, Clark, be hard on yourself! You blew it, kid!" Not very forgiving of me, I guess. But I know we're going to have all those episodes where he hardly even seems to remember what he did, and that's annoying. (Remember his dream in "Slumber," where his parents talk about all he went through over the summer? I know you can't control your dreams, but that always made me wonder if in the back of his mind, he was actually feeling sorry for himself over that!) Also his line to Lana about his allowance -- that makes me want to say, "Honey, I wouldn't be giving you any allowances for the next decade or so if I were your mother!" |

Yes, I think Jonathan really shines even in the barn scene. You could see what he was feeling and thinking in his eyes with almost no dialogue. And what you have to remember is that the human reaction time is not that quick at all. Think of the last time you hit your breaks in traffic-- quick but still measurable. Clark, in such a confined space, should have been able to easily get to them both. They were only feet apart and it takes time for the brain to process and react. We know he moves fast enough that he is literally invisible. The shock value alone would delay the men from firing even more. I understand Clark is afraid to take a chance but I was hoping he'd have enough command of his powers to know what he could and couldn't do by now and he certainly could have taken those guys. I sooo agree about Clark's self-centeredness. All he think about is himself lately! This is not a child raised by Jonathan Kent! I better see a hero in the boy, quick! |

I think that Clark probably could have got to both of them, but I think he didn't wanna risk it. There was too much at stake. I mean, there really was no margin of error in that case. As for him not leaving the room. Well, I don't think Morgan would have let him. I mean, he followed him over to the tool chest, so I think he'd have followed him if he went out of the barn. Besides he had to get the meteor rock to be able to cut himself. Jonathan was great tho. I loved how he smashed the chair and tried to grab the kryptonite off of Clark eventho he knew he could get shot! That is a true show of a father's love for his son there! I was irked by how Clark was nearly unconscious there in the barn, then later in the truck, after being exposed to the green rock for atleast 6 hours, he can kick over a box, cut his hands free and rip the rock off his chest. Why didn't he do that in the barn? But that is another subject all together.:p |

I guess I just wanted him to do *something* that showed he was trying to figure a way out lol :) Jonathan was what I want to see Clark become in that story arc. The chair breaking scene was awsome  |

In the fight scene when Jonathan sees the burned S on Clark's chest and he asks what did Jor-el do to him, did anyone figure out the irony of Clark's statement. "He made sure I'd never forget who my real father is." Livvie says that he's talking about Jonathan being his real father as a real father wouldn't brand his son like that. Also since we know what the deal is it seems kind of silly now. Bring the kid home just to give him back to Jor-el? Please! |
