K-site has some stuff up about season 4 episode 2. They don't tell us much about Jonathan, but at least we know he's talking. It seems he (1) invites Lois's father to dinner (is J. out of the hospital already, then? Pretty good for having been out like a light for three months!) and (2) says something about his heart not being what it used to be. :( |

Maybe I'm the eternal optimist, but as depressing as that spoiler sounds, I'm not getting "Jonathan's dying" vibes from it. I have a feeling he'll be too important in season 4 to be killed. Primarily because . . . SPOILERS * * * * * It sounds as if all the forces in the world, more or less, will be conspiring to push Clark towards evil. And who's always stood between Clark and evil influences? Mom and Dad. So I'm venturing to predict no death for Jonathan. And maybe, just maybe, more screentime for him AND Martha. Like I said, the eternal optimist. ;) |

I'm with you Renee. I don't think they'll kill him. Clark is going to need his mom and dad methinks, or he'd be the one turning out evil after all he's been through, nevermind Lex! |

Oh I'm not saying right now. But I don't want to see "a very special Smallville" somewhere down the line where Clark loses Jonathan. Ever. All this reminding about his health is making me less than happy. |

"Very special Smallville" = One thing (one of many things) that gets me is that, from what we can piece together, Jonathan's comatose, or not far from it, in one episode and home from the hospital in the next. I'm worried that they're going to handle his illness like they did last season: "Oh no, Jonathan's had a heart attack! What, they kicked him out of the hospital already? Well, now he looks fine. Oh, wait -- now he's got to have triple bypass surgery! What, they kicked him out of the hospital ALREADY? Well, he must be fine, because he just got brained with a tire iron and he's walking around like nothing's wrong. Oh, look, now he's in an all-out brawl with Lionel! What's that -- he had to go back to the hospital? Why was that, Clark? Oh, for crying out loud, Clark, quit making your father's heart condition into a metaphor for your sappy relationship with Lana!" I mean, SHEESH. If he's GOT to be sick, I want them at least to be consistent about it. For one thing, when he showed signs of getting better, we could actually believe he was getting better and not keep getting jerked around all the time. |

Exactly. My preference is that they never say another word on the show. We all know what happened. We all know it effected it his heart. Okay fine. That doesn't mean we should hear about it all the time. People live with less than perfect hearts. Really, they do. But every time these poeple write lines like the spoiler, I get the feeling they want to make sure we know Jonathan is not well and that makes me so uneasy. AMEN to the wierd treatment of this whole thing. Jonathan should have been *really* winded after taking on Lionel if he was in such bad shape at the time. Don't get me wrong, the fact that he wasn't lets me say "see, he's basically okay" but then lets keep it that way :p |

Well, I don't mind if they MENTION it sometimes. People need to be reminded every so often of how much Jonathan was willing to go through for Clark. Especially the Jonathan haters, although I guess most of them would refuse to see the light even if you held it half an inch in front of their eyes! :whatever: But I would prefer that they mentioned it as something that USED to be a problem for him, but isn't any longer. |

Hey, guys, found some context for spoiler #2 over at DTS. It seems Lois's dad offers Jonathan a cigar, Martha shoots Jonathan a look, and Jonathan turns it down because his "heart isn't what it used to be." Like he was smoking cigars before?? (Although I understand some guys do enjoy them just as an occasional thing.) |

lol. Yeah, I don't exactly see him as the type to kick back with one, but I love that Martha is on top of things lol And people say Jonathan is too pushy with *her* ;) :D I really didn't mean that they should never mention the "idea" in general but I don't want to hear that he's sick all the time, you know? They could have had him just decline and leave it at that but they just had to say something about his heart. Again. I don't want to feel like the poor guy is living on borrowed time. :( |

Maybe that was one of his regrets in "Legacy" -- that he should have worked a little less hard and kicked back with cigars more often! :D This is the kind of thing that makes me wish I were good with graphics. It would be such fun to put together an image of Jonathan relaxing with a cigar! Too true about Martha and Clark. That is so, so sad. STOP TORMENTING THE KENTS, PEOPLE! :wall: How much pain can one family take, anyway? |

Hey, I just thought of a possible reason for Jonathan's line about his heart. Suppose Clark's memory has been coming back just a piece at a time, and when Jonathan says that, Clark suddenly remembers the heart attack for the first time. (I mean, he'd have to know something about the heart condition anyway, since he knows J. just got out of the hospital, but this is his first actual memory of it.) And then he remembers JE was responsible -- and that's his first memory of JE since coming back. Hmm. Could be interesting. By the way, it seems to me as if Clark comes out of the cave a bit mouthier than he went in. Too bad Jonathan probably won't get a chance to kick his tail around the barnyard, a la "Phoenix." But we've already got Clark separated from his family for the summer, going bad, stealing something -- I guess they can't repeat EVERYTHING from last year! |
