Jonathan's Lady

If Jonathan could change only one thing from the last 3 years, what do you think he would do differently? |

That's a no-brainer. Either his deal with Jor-el or how he turned his back on Clark when the baby died. Whichever comes first. |

Jonathan's Lady

Well, honestly, I'm inclined to believe that at this point he just never would have told Clark about being from another planet. That's when it all spiralled down hill. The key from the ship awakened JE and the poo hit the fan. I think Jonathan's only concern is that Clark is happy and healthy and he doesn't really care about some greater truth and destiny. He cares about Clark and keeping his famliy together :) |

Can't Stay Away

Well, I think it all spiraled downhill when Virgil Swann entered the equation. If Clark had never gone to see Virgil Swann he could have been completely oblivious when Jor-el started making his crazy demands. |

Actually, I suppose JE would have "called" Clark no matter what so maybe the best Jonathan could have done would be to try to destroy the key? |

Don't mess with JS

Yes, I can't help thinking that Clark somehow would have found out who he was even if Jonathan hadn't told him, and then he would have been even more upset with his parents than he was in the "Pilot" episode. As for Swann, Clark was already getting messages from JE and was able to translate them even before he came into the picture. I think pretty much all Swann did in "Rosetta" (someone correct me if I'm forgetting anything) was fill in some gaps for Clark and let him know he was the only survivor of Krypton. (Which he forgot anyway as soon as Kara came along with her flimsy and completely unbelievable stories! Dope. ) I'm inclined to think, from Jonathan's words in "Legacy," that what he regrets most is walking away from Clark in the hospital. No matter how he meant it -- whether he was really furious with Clark, or whether he just needed to be away from him for a while to cool down, or both -- Clark already felt so ashamed that he took it as rejection, and everything went downhill from there. If Jonathan hadn't done that, I think it's pretty unlikely he would have had to make the deal with JE. And even though he felt horribly guilty about the deal later, I think he still believed there wasn't anything else he could have done by the time things got to that point. (I hope the whole family is going to talk about this at least a little in season 4. They really need to clear the air on this one. Let's not have one of those infamous "let's just ignore the huge plot development and hope it goes away" moments, please!) |
