**sniff**

I will never forget. I was at work. Word got out of the first plane and everyone tried in vain to reach news sites (CNN.com, etc..). My wife was working for a collection agency for credit cards. Her calling area that day was the East Coast. Needless to say, she was done working for the day. I left work early and we went and got our kids out of school. As we watched on TV, my oldest son, Alex, said, "It looks like someone is trying to have a war with us." I replied, "Yes, but this man is a coward. He is not making war with soldiers. He is making war with mommies and daddies and children." (I know full well that mommies and daddies serve in the military, but it seemed the best way to explain it.)

My wife and I cried together and prayed together with our children. We wondered what kind of world we would be waking up to in the next few months. I remember speaking soothing words to my wife and holding her that day. (Now, I'd give anything for it to be Sept 11, 2001 again, so I would be holding her again.)

September 11th is my wife's birthday.

What I also remember about that day and the days that followed:
We were not Democrats or Republicans - we were AMERICANS
This nation united in prayer as never before.
You didn't hear anyone talking bad about our president as he prepared to lead us
through this time.
The respect everyone had for public service workers (Firemen and Policemen) all
over the country.
The resolve we had. We were AMERICANS and you just don't mess with America!

Thank you, Mr. President for your leadership during this time. My prayers are always with you. Thank you, NYPD and FDNY, for your bravery and courage and strength. Thank you, Todd Beemer. Let's Roll!

Happy Birthday, Wifey. I miss you.

I still remember when I got the news. I was still in bed with my son, who was only 10 months old. My mom called and told me, and I got up and turned the TV on. 5 seconds later the South Tower fell. I remember standing there in front of the TV holding my son, and I was just in shock. I had tears in my eyes, and I was shaking. I called my husband at work, and of course, he had heard. To this day I still get chills just thinking about that day.

I was at work. It was the afternoon here in the UK, and the first thing we heard was that terrorists had crashed a plane. The full horror of events didn't really come to light until I got home & more news had seeped to our news people here.

I think the worst part for me was seeing people jump from the towers before they fell.

How can any human being do that to another? We should all live together without such attrocities. We're all only here on earth for a short while. We should do good with what time we have...

I had just been at the Pentagon early that morning -- my carpool driver used to drop me off there every morning and I would catch the Metro into D.C. When I heard the news, I was in a meeting. The guy who was leading the meeting insisted on keeping it going for a few minutes longer (these retired military guys; what can I say? ), but no one was paying attention, and we finally broke up and everyone started looking for ways out of the city, in between watching what was happening on TV. I remember the rumor that a plane was still up there and headed toward our city. It never made it that far, thanks to some wonderful people. "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends" -- or for strangers he's never even met.

I finally caught a ride with a co-worker and her husband. I'll never forget driving past the Pentagon and seeing that gaping hole with the smoke pouring out of it.

My carpool driver was a member of the team that had just done some repairs and reinforcing of the building. The plane struck just where it had been reinforced. If it hadn't, the damage would have been even worse. (Everyone in my carpool worked at or near the Pentagon, but thank God they were all okay.)

Our church lost one man, and another was horribly burned. It's been a long road back for him, but he's one incredibly brave guy. He and his wife just published a book about their experience, which you can find out more about here if you want: http://www.facethefire.org/. It's an awe-inspiring story.

Just a few memories I thought I'd share with everyone. Thanks for leading us in remembering, roman. Let's roll!

I got up that morning and got ready to go to school...I was a sophomore in high school that year...I remember coming out into the living room and my mom was on the phone with my grandmother. she yelled at me to turn on the tv and when I did...it was terrible...but I had to go to school and so I went and we watched the news in every class that day. I remember me and my best friend sitting together at lunch that day, practically speechless.

My friend Michelle's birthday is 9/11...I could never imagine waking up that morning, all prepared for a wonderful day and turning on the news and just sinking into despair.

Me and my sister led a charity even in our city, a version of "Honk for America" we had signs and flags and stood on the busiest intersection in our city...there were so many people who stopped and thanked us and gave us money. We didn't raise a lot, but what we did we sent to the Red Cross and they were very thankful.

I was at school in fifth grade. Right before lunch my teacher told us that there might be some students talking about the WTC and a plane hitting them. Having never been to NY and only being in fifth grade, i had no idea what she was talking about. I went to lunch and one of my friend's mom met us. She was there because my friends dad was suppose to be at the WTC during the crash. They had put the meeting at a later time so he caught a later flight. He ended up landing somewhere else and driving home, but it was a close call. It really didn't hit me until i got home what really happened. When i saw the news and the smoke and fire and all the confusion, it really hit home. I cried myself to sleep that night even though i didn't know anybody who was there.

Now its hard to think that my children will be learning about what happened. I can just hope that they don't have to grow up with a war going around their world.

Let's roll!!!!

I work at a middle school in NJ…the children were all informed about what was happening during school, since we were in session…and then the tears started to fall profusely. Some kids’ parents and some of my co-workers families worked in the Twin Towers.
I remember trying to keep a stiff upper lip so the kids wouldn’t get more frightened than they already were, but it was hard…very hard when you have a child crying on you saying “My dad is in that building.” Some of the children in the district did lose their parents that day & one co-worker lost their spouse. Some of my neighbors, that I don’t know personally but lived near me, were on the planes that left Newark airport. Even though I didn’t know them personally I would never forget their beautiful spirit & I give them thanks for their courage & bravery.
I went to ground zero six months later and that site shook me to the core. It really hit me that day…these were two buildings I use to go in & out of years back when I worked for a brokerage firm and now it was literally a giant hole in the ground. The magnitude of the devastation was just unbelievable.
At times there are just no words that can describe the pain of that day, but I will honor all of the lives that were lost in my heart because I’m able to speak volumes there. My heartfelt prayers go out to all that have suffered…God Bless

I was at the hospital with my mom that morning. We had to be there early for her surgery. I saw the second plane hit the towers and realized it wasn't a horrible accident but an acutal attack. I spent the day in the hospital chapel praying for our nation, leaders, victims, families, and the brave people who were rescuing.
Since then I continue to pray for those who are struggling through the grief process. We helped send NW Medical Teams and some other medical personnel back east to help with rescue efforts.

Thanks for sharing your memories. I love your banner roman1967.

I was on holiday at the time and we had just come back from a main land trip. I'd come out of the shower and switched on the TV to find BBC world news, with the two towers one of the pulming with smoke. I flicked through the rest of the stations and they were showing the same thing. I called my mom into the room, and that's when I saw the second plane hit.

I was getting ready to go to school and turned on the news so I could find out about the weather. I was utterly confused by the reporting at first because they kept talking around what had happened. Then there was breaking news and they showed the second plane hitting the WTC. I thought that I must have accidentally switched the channel but as the reality sunk in I was scared the world was coming to an end. I went around the rest of the day in a daze. I tried desperately to call relatives who I knew worked near the WTC without success. It wasn't until my Mom called me and said that she finally heard from my Aunt and cousins that I finally broke down and cried. I will never forget that day and the innocent lives that were lost. I continue to pray for their families.

Because you are really young, I am going to try and take it easy on you.

Now, please answer the following questions with a yes or a no.

1. Do you think that people who purposely fly airplanes full of people into buildings that have people in them are bad guys?

2. Do you think that people from another country who enter our country with the intent of causing harm to American citizens are bad guys?

3. Do you think that people who provide funding (money) or a hiding place to people who would come into our country with the intent of causing harm to American citizens are bad guys?

Please answer those questions truthfully....

Now, for a little history lesson.

Do you know that more people were killed during the attacks on September 11, 2001 than were killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941? In case you weren't aware, the Pearl Harbor attack is probably the prime factor that got the U.S. involved in World War II. December 7, 1941 was referred to at that time as a "...day that will live in infamy," and is still sometimes referred to as such today. Do you know what that phrase means? "Infamy" is defined as "evil fame or reputation" or "an evil or criminal act that is publicly known." So basically, it was called "a day of evil." What is interesting is the fact that people did not have a problem with the U.S. defending itself after Pearl Harbor, but now - when talking about a day where more people were killed - there are many people who can't wait to say bad things about the president or the U.S. government. Why is that? Why are people so quick to judge our president now as a bad person for defending us against future attacks when the president in 1941 didn't have that problem? Because there was a difference??? No, not really. Both were surprise attacks. Both used kamikaze tactics to inflict the most damage. Both killed a lot of people. Not a lot of difference there. Because it was a different time?? Well, were Americans killed then? Were Americans killed on 9-11? Do we define "American" the same way then as we do now? Hmmm........

I fear that you are repeating other opinions rather than forming your own. You hear people say bad things about the president...say that we don't know why we are fighting a war and think to yourself, "yeah..that sounds good." I would like you to have an informed opinion. Know the facts. Know who you are talking about, and then make an opinion about it rather than go along with what you hear in school from teachers or friends.

By the way, if you answered "yes" to any of my three questions above, then you are not "totally against" our president. He would answer "yes" to those questions as well, so you are in agreement with him.

OK. Getting down now... :soapbox:

I was on my way to school, I was in 8th grade at the time. My mom was listening to the radio and I wasn't really paying attention and my Mom sudenly slammed on the brakes (right when she was turning around a corner, and I vividly remember hearing the news caster say "It's hit the second tower, An Airplane has hit the second twin tower!" I immidiatly started crying, because I thought it was local news and that it had hit some where close to where my Mom and I were. Then after I heard it was in New York I stoped crying.

The thing I most remember about that day is when I was in History. my history teacher could tell we weren't going to learn anything that day, so she let us all ask her questions and she answered them to the best of her ability. I don't remember all of the questions but I remember one kid in front of me asking "Are we going to go to war?" and then she said "Yes, I think we are going to go to war." at which point I started crying agian because my cousin is in the Military and I didn't want him to go and get killed in war.

Even now, I'm scared that he'll get sent to Iraq and he'll be killed, even more so now because my brother joined the Army not to long ago, and he's learning arabic, they need translators.
