Smallvillian, what you said a little while ago about how JS needs an award gave me an idea. As we wait for the season premiere, how about a contest to decide his best performance so far? The winning performance will get the first ever LJLS Award.

(The best part is, JS is bound to win! ;) )

Send in your nominations, and when we get enough I'll start a poll.

ETA: I do mean his best performance in a "Smallville" episode, of course. "Dukes," "Dr. Quinn," "Diagnosis Murder," et al. don't count. :D

I love it too, and thanks again for your part in it! ;)

Actually, do you think it might be a better idea to break it down by season, and then when we've decided on the best performance for each season, have a runoff for best of the three? Might make it a little less overwhelming!

Jonathan's Lady
Woohoo! Sounds great!

I know the ones I love!

S1-- Tempest "He knows everything! I will not let him destroy this family!"

S2-- Vortex The whole thing is amazing from him. "Martha said if we left him there, that they would want to keep him." Oh, he makes me cry there. Because he may get teary-eyed other times but here he is outright crying and boy it just gets me right in the heart.

S3-- You would think I would say Legacy but I'm actually going to go with Talisman. There is something in the subtle depth of the performance he gives there where he did far beyond what they material actually offered.

Bottom line, I think he is the best actor on the show. Yes, MR is great, but he has a lot to work with. Jonathan stands out despite given very little to allow him to do so.

Excellent choices!

And you can nominate multiple episodes per season if you want. Then I'll gather them all together and set up the s1 poll, s2 poll, and s3 poll. (Probably one poll at a time, not all together -- that might be a little too much to have going at one time.)

My s1 nominations would be "Metamorphosis," "Hothead," and "Rogue." More later . . .

Owner of the flying pink monkeys!
S1- Rogue. The part where Jonathan and Clark talk in jail. The whole scene, I can't name one specific part of it. I cried.

S2: Rosetta-"I am your father. I raised you. And I know you better than anyone." Then the hug, and the misty eyes. Again...I cried.

S3: Exile- giving of himself to save his son. Now words can decribe it. It was just so beautiful.

Jonathan Fan
Can't Stay Away
I have quite a few scenes that I like in Smallville. I'll just name them from each season.

X-Ray- When Jonathan tells Clark to describe what's in his hand by using his x-ray vision. Of course I have to say J0onathan is not to bright by taking his knife out of the pocket Clark knows Jonathan uses for the knife. I just like the grins that go around at this.

Nicodemus- The way bad Jonathan acts is believable! I still think it's humorous when Jonathan belches in Lex's face after telling him off.

Tempest/Vortex- I love his protective attitude towards Clark and call me weird, but when Nixon says "He's not your son, you deluded hick. He's not even human. You and your wife just kept him because you couldn't have children off your own," the look on Jonathan's face is so sad.

Heat- I just like Jonathan in that scene when he is teaching Clark how to use his heat vision. That line "Rule number one: Always practice away from the barn" just cracks me up.

Red- I just like Jonathan period in every scene of this episode, especially at the end when he flashes that green rock on Clark and said that doing it was difficult for him.

Redux- I like Jonathan in this because it was one of those times you get to see how stubborn the man really is. He doesn't take any flak from Martha's father, but I don't agree with his technique of handling Mr. Clark.

Lineage- You see that Jonathan is not perfect. He looks great in red plaid though. but that episode had great history about Clark's adoption and how Lionel Luthor got control of the town.

Insurgence- I love every Jonathan scene in this. Especially when Jonathan hugs Martha at the end. Makes me think what old Lionel would say if he wasn't blind and could see this.

Fever- Again protective Jonathan. No more to say.

Rosetta- That scene at the end in the storm cellar. That quote Jonathan uses at the end about being Clark's father and that he raised him is so beautiful.

Calling/Exodus- I like every scene in this of Jonathan until the end of Exodus. The best is when Jonathan gives Lex the compass and agrees to fill in a sLex's father for the wedding.

Exile/Phoenix- Every scene with Jonathan except the Morgan Edge scene in the barn. Jonathan trying to save his son in Exile and getting Clark's powers was cool.

Extinction- Jonathan taking the bullet out of Clark.

Perry- Him asking Clark to lift up the tractor and Clark flips it.

Relic- Every scene with Jonathan. I also thought it was a nice twist that Jor-el would pick Jonathan to raise his son. (Why is it that Jor-el doesn't remember that Hiram saved his life? That's gratitude for you)

Whisper-Jonathan helping Clark with his hearing.

Crisis- Jonathan protecting Lana with his shotgun.

Legacy- Every scene involving Jonathan. He plays guilt really well.

Talisman- That whole scene after Jeremiah stabs Clark and the next day when he waskes up and found out that Jonathan cured him.

Covenant- In the cave when Jor-el tries to kill Jonathan and he tells Clark that Jor-el could do whatever he wants to Jonathan as long as Clark's free.

Yikes! I better get in there with my nominations! :D I think most of mine are taken already, but what the heck, I'll give them too!

I already gave my s1 nominations. S2 -- Vortex, Lineage, Fever, Rosetta. I think I'll throw Suspect in there, too -- doesn't seem to be a big fan favorite, but I always liked it, and more to the point, that was a great performance! As JF says, JS does a great job with what I like to call the "Oh my gosh I've been such a fool" scenes.

S3 -- Exile, Phoenix (I may lump those two together in the poll, if no one objects. That always seems like one long episode to me), Whisper, Resurrection, Legacy, Talisman

I think that's it for me, although I may think of one or two more. If anyone else has nominations, get 'em in -- I'd like to start the season 1 poll in the morning!

Gosh, this kind of makes you look forward to all the good work he's going to do in season 4, doesn't it? ;)

I've got three more nominations for s1: "Pilot," "Jitters," and "Leech."

The first poll will be up shortly!

Oops, I forgot "Reaper." Don't know where my brain is these days . . .

And I know we've already got quite a few for s3, but I think I'll throw "Hereafter" into the mix. I realize his performance only lasted a few minutes total in that one, but I'd say it was pretty darned unforgettable!
