Jonathan's Lady
|
We certainly started having a good dose of Jonathan lately. Thank goodness! Just thought I'd pose the "Up for grabs" question this week--What is Jonathan's middle name? And do you think we'll ever know? :) |

Hiram, maybe, after his father? If that's it, no wonder he never mentions it. :D We've seen his signature and he doesn't even use a middle initial. So maybe the only way we'll ever find out is if Martha gets really mad at him about something and yells, "JONATHAN _____ KENT!!" |

My guess was Hiram also. I did a quick google search and I found one site that said this: Kal-El traveled through hyperspace for three years until his rocket slipped quietly into the Kansas countryside, without causing any destruction. The tiny rocket was found by Jonathan Eben Kent and Martha Sarah Clark Kent. Since Jonathan was an avid sci-fi reader, he guessed that the craft was alien. Being childless, they decided to adopt him and named the child Clark, after Martha’s maiden name. That site is http://eidolon-solstice.net/thefrog/extras/smyth.html That is the only reference I found to Jonathan having a middle name. But if that is it, I could understand why he wouldn't use that one either! How about "Richard"? :D (John's middle name) |

Eben?? I've never even heard of that name. I guess when you pronounce it, it rhymes with "Kevin"? :scratchhead: Well, now I'm intrigued! Poor Jonathan, lucky thing he avoided the whole "Gene" fiasco! Yeah! Richard would do nicely :D |

Eben's even worse than Hiram!! But Richard would be a good choice.
:D I remember reading somewhere that, way back when the very first Superman comics were coming out, the Kents' first names were Eben and Sarah. They were changed to Jonathan and Martha (thank goodness!) later on. Maybe that's when it was decided to make their original names into their middle names. Oh, and now we know something else about Jonathan -- in some versions of the story, anyway, he likes to read sci-fi! :) |

Owner of the flying pink monkeys!

Well before Eben was researched up, I was thinking maybe his middle name was Gene. You know, since his mom won the first name, maybe Hirim got to pick the middle name. But if it were up to me, if I had named Jonathan Kent, I would've said Michael, jus cuz' Jonathan Michael sounds really good together. :-) |

I thought of the name David, but I guess it sounds too much like a last name; Jonathan David? And it also sounds like David and Jonathan from The Bible. |
