well, i filled the first post to the limit, so had to start writing here, here's the latest section. i will fill this one up before entering a new one. major plot developments in this section, please read and review. Lex stood there aghast, he hadn’t seen that one coming either. It seemed both he and his son were against him having a hand in this. He too, turned and walked in the opposite direction, towards Clark’s room. Once there, he paused in front of the window. Clark lay motionless on the bed, hooked up to various monitors, an oxygen mask over his face. He looked in on Clark for a few more moments before shaking his head and heading towards the opposite wing, where his private suit waited. Martha hung up the phone. “No one answered at any of the houses, I left messages. What are we going to do about Clark? That was kryptonite underneath his kneecap. He’s never had that long of exposure. How is it going to affect him?” “I don’t know Martha. We’ve already seen that his leg is not healing as fast as Clark’s injuries usually do. The best we can do right now, is wait. I’ll work on getting Clark home as soon as possible. He’s going to have to be here at least a few days after his second operation. Three Days Later Martha was at home, cooking in the kitchen. She had just gotten home from the Talon, and trying to keep herself busy. It kept her from worrying about Clark, lying of the hospital injured. The door opened, and Jonathan walked in. “What’s for dinner tonight? Whatever it is, it smells good.” She turned from the stove, and walked over to him and kissed him. “We’re having Chicken and mashed potatoes. I wanted to do something quick so we could go over and visit Clark.” “Sounds like a plan.” Martha went about setting the table, and bringing the food over. She and Jonathan sat down, and were about to dig in, when they heard something make a crashing noise in the front yard. Both of them jumped to their feet, and raced out the door and into the yard. The first thing they noticed was how windy it was. The trees whipped back and forth in the wind. As they looked towards the driveway, they found the source of the noise. Their truck lay on its side, the windshield cracked. They walked over towards it. Jonathan sighed. “I just had that truck repaired. We are really gonna have to scrounge to find the money to pay for this.” He yelled over the howling wind. “There’s nothing we can do about this now, we can deal with it in the morning.” They turned around and began walking back towards the house. It was then that Martha realized what had struck her odd about this. Tonight it was supposed to be calm, the skies were clear. It should not have that windy. They whipped around as they heard something hit the ground close behind them. “Good evening Mr. and Mrs. Kent. Lovely night is it not. The name’s Brynn. One of your son’s friends. Just though I’d pop in to say hi. I heard about what happened to him.” “What do you want?” “I just came to say hi, is that such a crime. Oh yeah, and to escort you back to a cozy little place I have back in town.” “We’re not going anywhere with you. I don’t know what you want with us, but you have the wrong people.” “Oh no Mr. Kent, I know exactly who you are. And I need you to get to Clark. I am sure you are aware of what he did. If not, perhaps I can remind you. November 12, 2003, a little over a year ago. Adam Withers: promising student, active in many clubs, and my brother. He was the only one who ever could see past my facade. The only one who truly understood who I was. He was the only person who ever treated me like a real person. That was, until Clark came along. He ruined everything. Ever since the meteor shower, my brother had been able to control fire. Not created it, but could mold it, hold it, you could see his spirit dance when he was with fire. Then, the accident happened. He was out in a cornfield, he and I. He was molding the flames into amazing patters as they danced across the ground, when she came. Laura Peterson. She saw him, and the next day told him she was going to expose him. He panicked, and murdered her, burning her alive. He got over it, I got over it, and slowly the town began to forget. Then Clark came along. He too saw my brother’s abilities in action. He made the connection, and called the police. My brother was committed to the asylum. He’s not the same. He’s there in body, but not in mind. He hasn’t talk since he went there. Clark took away the only thing I ever loved, the only one who ever cared. And I intend to do the same to him.” Before Jonathan or Martha could react, he sent a column of air hurdling at them, knocking them off their feet. He slowly walked towards them, neither rose, they were out cold. He raised another column of air, and was lifted into the air, Clark’s parents right beneath him. Clark lay in his bed, aware of the heavy cast on his leg, as well as of the silence around him. He sighed. He reflected over what had happened over the past few days. When he had come around, he had been able to see his parents after the operation. They were relieved to see him, and told him once again to stay put for now. The doctor had come in next, and told him about what had happened, and told him he would need another operation. This whole hospital thing was getting old really fast. Lex came to visit him at least two times a day; his parents came in the evening. None of his friends had been allowed to visit him yet. He tuned his hearing until he heard Lex approaching from the hallway. Sure enough, within moments Lex was opening the door, and striding in. “Hi Clark, I just swung by to check on you, and tell you that your parents won’t be able to make it tonight, something came up. I don’t have time to stay, but will come by tomorrow morning.” He turned on his heel and strode out. Clark immediately knew something was wrong, his parents would never have missed coming to see him, and as far as he knew, there was nothing going on that night that would require their immediate attention. He cocked his head towards the door, and using his sensitive hearing, tuned in on Lex once more. This time, there was someone with him. He was unable to tell who it was, but he could make out what Lex was saying. “Clark’s parents have gone missing, that’s why they aren’t here tonight. His doctors said not to tell him; it would be too much stress on the injury. I told Clark that they were busy, and I think they bought it. So far, there are no suspects in the case. I have told the police to contact me with any information. Hopefully we can have this resolved without Clark even knowing…” The rest was a blur, they were too far away. Clark immediately tried to sit up, when he realized he was under restraints. He had forgotten about those. What had the doctors said? They were “for his protection.” He shook his head, like they were really going to hold him. He looked at the clock sitting on the table beside his bead. It was past 9:00, no one should check in on him for an hour. The place should be pretty empty at this hour anyways. He snapped the restraints with little difficultly, and sat up, swinging his legs over the table. The next thing he had to focus on was the cast; he would have to get rid of that too. He flexed his legs, and with a little more difficulty managed to break the cast, shards flying in every direction. He moved his leg back and forth, pain rippling through his body as he did so, trying to work out of the stiffness. The pain returned with vengeance, causing him to cringe. He hopped down from the bed, landing on both legs. Tears welled in his eyes as the pain increased. He could feel the bones in his leg rubbing against each other. He switched his thoughts over to his parents; he had to focus on saving them. The first thing he had to do was get out of the clinic, and back to the house. If there were any clues to where Brynn had gone, they would be back at his house. He slowly began walking over to the door, peaking out through the window to make sure that the hallway was clear. It was. He opened the door, and hobbled out into the hallway. He leaned up against the wall as he made his way down the hallway, trying to keep as much of his weight off his bad leg as he could. He came to an intersection, and went right. It was then that he heard shouts from behind him. “Hey! What are you doing out of bed? Hold still Clark, I’ll call your doctor. He ran up to Clark, gripping him by the shoulder, pulling him to a halt. “Where’s your cast? No, matter, we’ll figure that out later, right now we need to get you back in bed.” Clark turned his head looking back at the worried orderly. “No. I need to find my parents.” He began limping towards the door once again. The orderly wouldn’t give up; he walked around Clark until he was standing in front of him. Clark had finally had enough of this. He snapped. He grabbed the orderly by the front of his shirt, throwing him against the nearest wall. He watched with satisfaction as he slumped to the ground motionless. He knew he had to get moving; someone else was bound to come along sooner or later. Clark reached another intersection, the door was right in front of him. Unfortunately, there were three nurses at the station. He decided the only thing he could do was walk right past them, and deal with them physically if it came down to it. He hobbled out into the intersection. He made it half way before the first nurse noticed him. She came racing over to him; Clark went into hyper-mode, racing out of the doors and into the night. He looked back to see two orderlies racing out of the hospital after him, but there was no way they could catch him. Pain ignited in his leg with each step, yet he refused to give in. By the time he raced into the driveway, there were tears in his eyes once again. Walking up the driveway, he took into account the truck lying on its side as well as the three trees that had been knocked over. He knew what had happened. Brynn. He limped into the kitchen, to find the cold supper still sitting on the counter. Realizing there was nothing here; he headed out to the loft. Making his way up the stairs, he headed over to the window. There he found what he had expected, a note. It read: Clark, You know who this is; you also know what I want. I know about your abilities. Just as you took my brother from me, I taken something you hold dear, your parents. If you ever want to see your parents again, meet me at the old auto-factory on Sanswick Road. 10:00 PM come alone, don’t be late, or you will never see your parents again. Brynn He crumpled the note in his hand, throwing it on the ground, and driving his hand through the nearest wall out of frustration. Looking down at his watch, Clark realized he had only ten minutes to get down to the factory. He took Brynn’s threat seriously. Over the years, he had learned that a desperate man would do almost anything when driven to do so. He limped out of the house, looking down at his leg, he realized that he had ripped the sutures open. Shaking his head, he knew he didn’t have time to worry about it right then. Entering hyper-mode, he raced out the front door and towards the old factory. Lex walked into Clark’s room, shards of the broken cast cracking under his shoes. He bent down, picking up a piece and twirling in between his fingers. “Would any one like to explain to me how this happened?” He looked back at the two doctors standing behind him. “We have no idea sir. You’ve already talked to the orderly whom Clark knocked out, as well as the nurses that were at the station. He was here one moment, and gone the next.” “Go ahead and take the clinic off lockdown. Clark obviously isn’t on the grounds, I’ve had the guards search many times. For now, alert the police, I think I may have an idea of where he had gone. How exactly do you explain the broken cast and restraints?” “We can’t sir. We have no idea.” “How is this new series of events going to affect Clark’s injuries?” “Again, it depends on how much stress he puts on that leg. Without the castthere’s definitely going to be more damage. If there’s too much stress, he could be crippled for life. The sooner we get him back here, the sooner we can assess the damage.” Lex sighed, shaking his head. “I’m going to go look for him, I’ll call if I find anything. Don’t leave the complex, I am going to need you here the moment Clark is brought back in.” Lex headed out of the clinic, hopping into his porche, he drove over to the Kent’s household. He eyed the truck on its side, the fallen tree, and the tattered ends of yellow police tape. He climbed the steps up to the porch, and noticed something on the porch. Red blotches trailed from the driveway all the way up and into the house. Clark had definitely been here. He raced inside, looking for any sign of where Clark could be. He entered the kitchen, and immediately noticed the hole in the wall. He walked over to examine it. It was about four inches wide, and shaped like an oval. Shaking his head, he looked down once again, and began following the trail of blood. The trail led over to the counter. Lex paused as something caught his attention. There was a crumpled piece of paper on the ground. He picked it up, opening it up, and began reading it. When he was done, his worry increased. He had no idea who this Brynn was, or what abilities he was talking about, but knowing Clark, he would have headed over there right away. He still hadn’t figured out how he had gotten here so fast. The only thing he could think of was that Clark had hot wired a car and driven it over here, though no vehicles had been reported stolen. He turned on his heel, racing back out to his car, and headed over to the old auto-factory. Clark slowed as he approached the entrance to the warehouse. The doors were open. He knew this was meant to lure him in, and he really didn’t see any way around it. He limped forward, blood seeping down his leg, sticky and damp against his leg. Making his way to the door, he looked forward to see his parents, tied to chairs, and gagged. He limped over to them as fast as he could. “Mom! Dad! Are you Ok?” He ripped the tape from his dad’s mouth. “Clark! LOOK OUT! Behind you!” Clark turned to late, Brynn came at him, hitting him over the head with a crow bar, sparks flew behind his eyes as he collapsed to the ground. “I knew you would come. I’ll finally have the chance to finish what you started when you sent my brother to the asylum.” He bent over Clark, grabbing him by the back of his shirt, and dragging him over to the other side of the warehouse. “Now you will get the chance to watch me kill your parents. I hope you enjoy the show, cause you’ll be next. He took something out of his pocket, and put it on top of Clark. The green shards glowed in the pale light. “Meteor Rocks, I never would have thought of it, but your parents were very helpful when it came to those matters. It didn’t take much threatening before your parents told me. I don’t know why it affects you, and I don’t care, I will enjoy watching you die Kent. The time I spent with my brother in the asylum, begging him to talk, was like dying twenty times over. It’s only fair that I return the favor.” Brynn stood up, and walked back over to Clark’s parents. He inhaled a breath of air, and sent it hurdling towards Jonathan. The chair he was tied to went with him, crashing into the wall. “Dad…” Clark tried to drag his body over towards his father, but found himself unable. The kryptonite, combined with his previous injury prevented him from moving. He groaned out in pain as tears welled up in his eyes. As if the pain weren’t enough, he had to witness a crazed meteor freak slowly murder his parents right before his eyes. Brynn walked over towards where Clark’s dad lay. He untied him from the chair, and threw him to the floor. Jonathan tried to inch away, but was unable, his hands and feet were still bound. “Please…no” “Oh, we’re just getting started. This night will prove most eventful.” He walked over to Clark’s dad, picking him up by the scruff of his shirt. He held him up, and taking a fist, drove it right into Jonathan’s face, letting him fall to the ground once again. As he rolled Jonathan over with his foot, he smiled as he saw fresh blood flowing down Jonathan’s face from where he had hit the floor. He picked Mr. Kent up once more, taking a huge breath, and exhaling at him. Clark’s dad was thrust in the opposite direction, this time crashing through the glass window into an adjoining office. Brynn headed over to the window, climbing into the room. He picked Jonathan up once more, dragging him back through the window. Jonathan screamed out as the sharp shards of glass raked over his back. Brynn looked down at his victim, letting him drop to the ground. He turned around, giving Mrs. Kent a malicious stare. “Now onto you, Mrs. Kent. I’ll finish your husband off later.” “No..Please.” Mrs. Kent sobbed as tears rolled down her face, stinging her eyes. “Please.”She struggled against the tape binding her feet and hands to no avail, the tape digging into her flesh. Clark had slowly managed to roll over, so that the kryptonite fell off of him and onto the floor. He had managed to drag himself far enough away so that it’s effect had lessened. As he saw Brynn move towards his mom, he struggled to his feet, entering hyper-mode, he managed to knock Brynn off his feet, sending him careening against the far wall. He tore the bindings off his mom, then racing over to his dad, his leg protesting with every movement. He limped over to where his dad lay, unconscious, and gently removed the bindings. Using what little strength he had regained, he heaved his father over his shoulder and began walking over towards the door, his mother close behind him. He managed to make it into the parking lot before the burden became to great, and he collapsed, his father falling beneath him. He quickly rolled off of his father. “Dad! Dad!” There was no reply, his dad did not respond at all to his voice or touch. He turned to his mother who was bent down next to him. He cringed as he rose to his feet. He took one last look at his dad before turning to his mom. He handed her the cell phone he had grabbed at the house, handing it to her. “Call an ambulance for dad, he needs to get to the hospital.” He turned away from his mom, and began limping back towards the car factory. Martha immediately rose to her feet, grabbing Clark by his shoulder. “Clark! You can’t go back in there, he’ll kill you!” “I don’t have a choice mom. He won’t give up. As dad always taught me, family comes first. I won’t let him hurt you guys again. I have to finish this tonight.” “Clark, look at you. You’re a mess. He has kryptonite. You already have an injury. You will die.” “I’m sorry mom, this is something I have to do. Get dad some help. He’s in worse shape than I am.” He shrugged off his mother’s grip, and before she could protest, entered hyper-mode, racing into the warehouse where Brynn was on his feet once again, and heading towards Clark. Clark turned around, grabbing the nearest car, he thrust it in front of the door, securing it against the frame. The door was jammed shut. He could hear his mom screaming at him from the other side, pounding on the aluminum door. Before he could turn around, Brynn was upon him. He pinned Clark to the ground, raising a meteor rock into the air, he hit Clark over his injured leg with it. Clark shrieked out in pain. Oblivious to the pain, the image of his dad on the ground bleeding haunting his mind, he rolled over on top of Brynn. With the little strength he had left, he thrust Brynn against the windshield of a car, limping after him, the kryptonite lay on the ground behind him. Tears rolled down Clark’s face once again, mixing with the blood from fresh cuts on his face. Brynn rolled off the hood of the car, facing Clark once again. Blood ran from his arm. “You can’t win this Clark, I’ll finish you off first, and then I’ll finish your parents. Perhaps then I’ll move onto your little girlfriends, Chloe and Lana. Everyone that you ever loved, I will kill, slowly. I’ll watch the pain and fear in their eyes as I kill them bit by bit. Clark pushed the pain to the back of his mind as he charged forwards, lowering his shoulder and plowing into Brynn, sending him hurling backwards once again. Rage boiled in his every vein as he saw pictures of his friends and family race through his mind. “You’re right about one thing, we’ll end this tonight. But you’ll be the one dead if anyone is to die tonight. I won’t let you hurt my family!” Brynn climbed to his feet, exhaling a column of air at Clark. Clark was thrown against the wall, leaving a dent, he slid to the floor. Brynn approached him slowly. “This is the end Clark, my brother will finally have the justice he deserves!” He grabbed Clark by the throat, pulling him to his feet, he slowly began to squeeze, watching with satisfaction as Clark began to turn purple. He clawed at the vice like grip around his throat to no avail, he had finally surpassed his limit. At that moment, Clark realized he could very well die right there. Yellow sparks flew in his eyes as he emitted heat from his eyes, directly into Brynn’s chest. He smelled the pungent scent of charred flesh as Brynn screamed out in pain, collapsing to the ground, trying to put the fire out. Clark stumbled three steps, as his vision became blurry. The world swam before his eyes as he collapsed over his fallen adversary, his body lay motionless. As they lay there, a steady drip of gasoline tricked from a split pipe, onto the ground. Lex’s Porche screeched to a halt in the auto-factory parking lot. The first thing she saw was Mrs. Kent, kneeling over the body of her fallen husband. He saw no sign of Clark. He jumped from his car, racing over to Mrs. Kent’s side. He looked down at Mr. Kent, and the pool of blood forming beneath him. “What happened here?” He asked in a worried tone. Through stifled sobs, Martha replied. “Brynn came and took us, brought us here to this warehouse. He tied and gagged us. Next thing we knew, Clark was walking through the door. Brynn attacked him and threw him to the ground, claiming he was going to kill my husband and me. He did this to Jonathan…” She motioned down at her unconscious husband. “Clark managed to get up, and knock Brynn against the wall, he carried Jonathan out here, gave me this cell phone, told me to call for help, and raced back inside before I could stop him. “Is he still in there?” “Yes. He barricaded himself in, I tried to go in after him. He hasn’t come out. He could be dead! He was already injured when he went back in.” “How badly was he hurt?” “He hit his head pretty hard, and his leg was bleeding.” “You stay here Mrs. Kent. Wait for the ambulance, I am going to go in after Clark. Stay here.” He pulled his phone out of his pocket as he walked around to the back of the warehouse, looking for another entrance. “Hello?” “This is Lex, Dr. Rosenbaum. I found Clark, right now he’s inside a warehouse, he’s hurt from what his mom told me. I’m going to go in and get him, I want your team standing by, and send an ambulance from the clinic.” “I understand sir, get him out of the warehouse if you need to, but don’t move him if you don’t have to. You could make his injuries worse.” “Ok, I have to go.” He hung up. Having found another door, he turned the knob and pushed, only to find that the door had rusted shut. He slammed his shoulder against it, the door swinging open, ajar. He headed inside, and immediately located Clark, along with the man he assumed was Brynn. He stepped in a fluid, looking down, he realized it was gasoline, he had to get Clark out of there fast. Lex raced over to Clark, kneeling down next to him. “Clark! Clark, are you ok?” He got no reaction. He rolled Clark over to find black and blue bruises around his throat, and his face and leg bathed in blood. He tried once again to wake Clark up. When shaking him didn’t work, he slapped him across the face. Slowly, Clark’s eyes fluttered open. “Lex?” “It’s me Clark, we need to get you out of here, this place is going to blow.” Lex tried to pull Clark to his feet, draping his arm around his shoulder. Bearing most of Clark’s weight, they slowly made their way over to the door, when Clark, though drowsy, was able to pick up a faint rumble, as he felt the foundations shake. “LEX! Behind us!” Clark knew they were too close, and weren’t going to get far enough away in time. Using the last bit of strength in his already worn body, he thrust Lex to the ground, and then draped his body over Lex’s. The building blew, fragments of the building flying in all directions as a cloud of flames raced outwards, and over Clark’s body. He screamed, the pain was beyond endurance. He felt the flesh being ripped from his back as the flames washed over his body. And then, just like that, it was over. Clark slowly opened his eyes. He did a mental check for injuries. His leg throbbed, there were still bruises around his throat and chest, but the skin across his back had already re-grown. He slowly picked himself up off of Lex, who lay beneath him. Lex was unconscious. He looked him over. His clothes were in tatters, but he had escaped remarkably intact. Clark slowly felt his throat and chest, as his injuries began to heal, with the exception of his leg. He suspected that the prolonged exposure to the meteor rock had rendered it unable to heal at his usual rates. He rolled over, the roles of savior reversed once again, Clark picked Lex up in his arms, carrying him around the ruins to the parking lot, where three ambulances, two fire trucks, and an assortment of police cars had gathered. He limped over towards the nearest fire truck as the firemen finally took notice of him. Two of them came rushing over towards him, as they took Lex off of his shoulders and carried him over towards the nearest ambulance, two paramedics turning their attention to treating Lex. Clark continued to limp over towards the other two ambulances where his mother sat. She sat facing the other direction, watching his dad being loaded into one of the ambulances. “Mom, how is he doing?” She turned around to face him, “CLARK!” She raced over to him, throwing her arms around his neck. “I thought I’d lost you.” Through teary eyes, she looked up at him. “Don’t you ever do something like that again!” He winced as she tightened her grip around him, burying her head in his chest. She immediately took notice. “Let me get the paramedics over here Clark, you look terrible. Clark went over to the side mirror on the ambulance, taking a look at his reflection. He was a mess. His shirt had been completely burned from his body, only tattered pants remained, and even then they were covered in blood. He bent over to feel his leg, layers of blood had dried on his skin, but the would seemed to have slowed down. Feeling a tight grip on his shoulder, he turned around to meet the worried glance of the paramedics. “Lets get you on a gurney, you’re in terrible shape.” For once, Clark didn’t protest, simply went along with them as he was loaded into the back of the ambulance, he looked to his mom’s worried gaze. “I’m fine mom, go with Dad, he’s a lot worse than I am. He needs you more than I do. Come by when you can and give me an update.” Hesitantly, she nodded. The doors were slammed shut, and once again he was taken to the clinic where the surgical team waited. As the ambulance raced through the night, Clark felt an odd sense of peace. It was over for now, truly over. He didn’t know what had happened to Brynn, but he suspected that he had died in the explosion. He didn’t mourn the teen’s death, nor did it satisfy him. For some odd reason, it no longer mattered. All that mattered was that his family would pull through this. He would be ok, his dad would recover much slower, but eventually things would return to normal. The paramedics worked over him, the sirens blasted in the back round, and Clark finally succumbed to his body’s will, slipping into a peaceful rest. Three Weeks Later Martha came around to Clark’s side of the car, opening the door for him, and helping him out. He had finally been discharged from the clinic, and was going to see his father for the first time since that terrible night at the automobile factory. She handed him his crutches as he balanced himself on them, and followed his mother into the hospital. He had received the cartilage replacement surgery, and after three weeks, had been discharged with strict orders to put on weight on the leg. They headed down several hallways until they reached his room. Almost afraid to look, his mother slowly opened the door for him and he hobbled in. “Hey dad, how are you?” “Surprisingly, Ok. The last few weeks have been long, but I should get discharged in a week or two.” Jonathan had been treated for three cracked ribs, several lacerations on his back that had required sutures, and a dislocated shoulder. Other than various bruises, and the fact that his arm was in a sling, he looked almost back to his old self. “The food here is terrible, but the nurses make up for that. I’m starting to question whether I want to go home. Here I get pampered by beautiful women, at home I work like a dog.” He chuckled as Martha gave him a playful tap on the shoulder. “How are you?” “I’m holding up. I got that cartilage replacement, I have to keep all of my weight off of my right leg for at least one and a half months, but then will slowly get back to my normal life.” Clark and Martha stayed for a few hours before heading home at 3:30. Clark headed into the house. Things were going to be hard for him for awhile. He had to sleep on the spare room on the main floor because he couldn’t do stairs yet. This meant he couldn’t go up into the barn loft. Sitting in the kitchen, was a vast array of vases, flowers, stuffed animals, and get well cards. Most of the town had heard about what had happened, and many people sent “get well soon” cards. “Are all these for me?” “About half, the others are for your father. I ran out of places to put all of them, as you can see, they have kind of taken over.” She said, eying the countertops covered in flowers. Clark relaxed for awhile, just sitting on the couch, going out to the cow pastures, he really had missed the farm. When he went back to the house, he found Chloe and Lana in the kitchen. “Hey. How are you doing? Welcome home.” “Thanks. I’m doing pretty well. It’s been hard adjusting to using crutches, but I manage.” “How are you guys?” “School hasn’t been the same without you. The Torch could definitely use you back on the team.” “I’ll be back in school tomorrow.” “I never got the chance to thank you for bringing me my school work every day. I really don’t know what I would have done without you guys. Thanks for everything, you really have helped in more ways than you can imagine.” “Well, we just popped in to say hi, we have to get going, homework, and I have to finish this month’s issue of The Torch. It’s been nice seeing you Clark, we’ll see you back in school tomorrow.” They both headed out of the kitchen, and outside to Chloe’s car. Clark turned back to his mom. “Do you think that you could take me over to Lex’s house? I haven’t seen him since the incident. I would drive myself, but I don’t think that would work out very well.” “Sure, let me grab my jacket, why don’t you head out to the car, I’ll be out in a minute.” She turned around, heading into the living room, snatching her coat off the back of the couch, and heading outside. Clark took his crutches out of the backseat, hopping out of the car, he balanced himself on his crutches, and began heading towards the entrance to Lex’s mansion. One of the Lex’s attendants let him in, and showed him where the elevator was. Clark hadn’t even known the mansion had an elevator. He went in, and took the elevator to the second floor. He headed down the hallway until he was standing in front of Lex’s office. He balanced his weight on one crutch, leaning for the door handle and opening the door. “Ms. Hampton, I thought I made it clear I didn’t want to be disturbed!” He spun around in his leather chair until he was facing the door, glaring at Clark. He looked startled and surprised. “Clark, sorry. Thought you were someone else. Come in." :slogo: :slogo: :slogo: :slogo: :slogo: :slogo: :slogo: :slogo: :slogo: :slogo: Clark hobbled in on his crutches. “Here, grab a seat over by the fireplace, I’ll be right over.” Clark nodded, heading over towards the leather-upholstered chairs in front of the fireplace. Lex turned back to his computer, looking at the files one more time. They were his entire archives on Clark. After the most recent occurrence, he had consulted several scientists, and all had reached the same conclusion, there was no way Clark or he should have survived. He closed the file, turning his computer off, and heading over towards where Clark was already seated. “How are you Clark?” “Fine, I just went to see my dad for the first time. He’s doing well. He should be able to come home in a week or so. I never got the chance to see you after the accident, how did you fare?” “I ended up in the hospital overnight, I had first and second degree burns on my arms and legs, but other than that, I made it out in pretty good shape considering the predicament. The one thing I don’t understand, is how we escaped that blast, we both should have been incinerated. What happened out there Clark?” Clark thought back to how he had thrown his body over Lex at the last minute, the flames barreling over his body. “I dragged you behind a sheet of metal right before the blast hit. That’s pretty much it. After the blast hit, I carried you around the warehouse, and over to the paramedics, they took things from there.” “Are you sure Clark?” “Yes, why, what do you think happened?” “I don’t know Clark, I was unconscious.” He thought back to the report his scientists had sent him after examining the sight. There had been no sheets of metal, he knew that much. The thing that really puzzled the scientists was the fact that the pavement had been completely scorched, with the exception of one spot. The outline of a human could be seen in the charred cement. “I never got the chance to thank you once again, for saving my life. I would have died in that blast, no doubt.” “It was nothing, you were trying to save me, if I hadn’t been in that warehouse, you wouldn’t have been there in the first place. You saved my life when you found me back on the side of that road.” “We’ll call it even then. Moving on, what did the doctors say about you’re leg?” Really, Lex had already been in contact with the team of orthopedics twice that day, and was merely trying to steer the topic of discussion in another direction. “They said I have to keep my weight off of the leg for at least two months. After that, hopefully, I can get the cast off and slowly begin physical therapy. I start school again tomorrow.” “That’s good.” “I also wanted to thank you for the men you sent over to help with the farm work while my dad and I are recovering. I honestly don’t know what I would do without you sometimes Lex.” “It was only a small gesture to show my appreciation for all that you and your family have done for me. While it has been nice seeing you Clark, I need to get back to work. Maybe I’ll swing by the farm later and visit. Right now, I have a lot to do.” “That’s fine, I guess I’ll see ya then.” He started to get up. “Here, let me help you.” Lex grabbed Clark’s arm and helped him get up and onto his crutches. Clark looked back at Lex once more as he turned, opening the door, and heading back down to the car. Lex watched Clark go down the hallway towards his personal elevator, and then he turned around, walking over to his desk, and turning the display screen back on, opening his file on Clark once again. As he opened the program, the slight tap of rain could be heard against the window. He scooted his chair back, walking over to the window, where he stood with hands behind his back as he watched Clark hobble towards the truck where his mom waited. He hopped in, closing the door, and they drove off. The rain increased until is pouring. Thunder cracked in the back round as lightning shot across the sky. He watched the trees whip back and forth in the wind, as if they were dancing. Lex thought back over his strange relationship he had had with Clark Kent over all of the time he had known him. So many things were left unaccounted for. Half the time, Clark seemed perfectly normal, and other times he wondered if Clark really was human at all. He sighed, turning back towards his desk, taking a seat in front of his computer as he began reading the rest of the file. The storm beat on, rain cascading from above, lightning illumining the evening sky, as Lex continued to dive deeper into the mystery that was Clark Kent. :slogo: THE END :slogo: |
