Jonathan's Lady
|
So...we know that Jonathan, ever the worrier and rational thinker, was not very sure about the idea of taking an alien child home to the farm. Too many unknowns--where did he come from? What was he here for? Was someone going to show up to take him back? But we know Martha won out. What do you think happened to convince Jonathan to embrace his newfound role as a father? :) |

But you already answered that in your story! :D Seriously, I thought your version of events made a lot of sense. I could just see Martha taking off and forcing Jonathan to be alone with the little boy -- and thinking to herself, "Now you two are going to bond, or else!" |

lol Thanks! --Yeah, that's what I imagined would happen. When mom's there, it's too easy to say "they baby wants you," and read the paper lol. But Jonathan's a big softy so the minute they were left alone, he turned to mush ;) |

Yep, that sounds about right. Martha, the ever loving wife, resorted to manipulation to get her stubborn husband to bond with Clark . . . and that bond hasn't been broken for fifteen years.
:) Personally, I love father and child bonds - as those have read my stuff can attest to. ;) |

I've heard it pretty widely recommended, whether the child is adopted or biological -- leave the dad alone with him or her for long periods of time just so they can get to know each other one-on-one. (My mom actually used it, too, and it worked very well! :) ) |

I think I did that with Jonathan and Linda when Linda first came to Earth, because Jonathan wasn't big on trusting Kryptonians, but once Jonathan spent time with the young girl - tractors, bulls, and emerging powers come to mind (;)) - he is hopelessly a daddy again. :) |

Didn't he tell Nixon that the incident with their bed or chest was what convinced him? That he took him to a specialist and that they just couldn't take him and leave him there? |

I don't think he said that was what bonded them, I just think that's what convinced them to turn Clark's gifts into the semi-best kept secrect on the planet. |
