Jonathan's Lady
We saw in Vortex that Jonathan drew the line at killing to protect Clark. Yet, in Legacy, he sure looked like he was trying to break Lionel's neck or choke him. Was that only specific to Lionel or do you think Jonathan could be driven to do almost anything to protect his family? Where is "the line" for him?

Well, he's not exactly a fan of Lionel! But then, he wasn't exactly a fan of Nixon, either. It's hard to say how far he would have gone in "Legacy" if Clark hadn't stopped him -- he'd been under tremendous emotional and physical strain, he was desperate, and it seemed like he just snapped. (I'm not saying he wasn't in control of his actions, though. He himself said that he was.)

I'll have to give this some more thought . . . :scratchhead:

I'm with Renee. Jonathan was under an inormous amount of pressure. With Jor-el dogging him he was acting in a way that he thought would get the maniac to leave him alone. Lionel was just in the way of that.

I think Jonathan would only cross the line if it meant saving his family - immediate life or death situation . . . .

That's probably true. Jonathan's always taught Clark he can't kill just to protect his secret. But when it comes to someone who's about to inflict actual physical harm on his family -- well, I think most men, except pacifists, would kill under those circumstances. And maybe even some pacifists would give in to the instinct. It's a pretty powerful one.

But again, in the scene with Lionel, Jonathan acts very unlike himself, and it's hard to say if he would have killed him then. I'll have to watch the scene again. (Always fun to watch our guy kicking billionaire butt!)
