This is just what I think happend after Chloe's mom left. I'm not sure how many chapter's there's going to be, but anyway, here's the first one it's the night after Chloe's mom left “Daddy?” Gabe Sullivan was snapped awake by his 5-year-old’s tiny voice; he glanced at the clock, it read 9:15. “What are you doing up so late?” He asked a bit groggily “I couldn’t sleep” Chloe said solemnly, her mouth, which usually held a smile, was now pulled down in an uncharacteristic frown. He noticed she was holding a book, but couldn’t tell which one it was. “What book do you have there Chloe?” he asked, peering around her trying to read the title. “The one mommy gave me” she said quietly, tears filling her big blue eyes. Gabe went to her, knelt down and wiped the tears that had already fallen; she dropped the book as she put her arms around his neck, he carried her back to the bed and sat down. “I miss mommy” she sniffed, her head buried in his shoulder “I know Chloe, I miss mommy too” he said as comfortingly as he could How the heck am I supposed to tell her that Mommy’s not going to come back? He thought as she continued to cry, but she suddenly stopped crying cold turkey as she gasped and looked at him, her eyes still filled with tears, but now about as big as dinner plates. “What Chloe?” Gabe asked concerned “Y-You aren’t go-going to leave m-me too are y-you?” She asked, just before a fresh new wave of tears came, and she buried her head in his shoulder again. Gabe held his daughter close as he stroked her hair “No Chloe, I’m not going to leave you, I promise” 10 minuets later, she had fallen into a very restless sleep. He quietly went into her room and tried to lay her down on her pint-sized bed without waking her up, no such luck, she woke up as he was pulling the blankets around her. “Daddy, can you read me the book mommy gave me?” she asked, as awake as she had been 15 minuets previously. “All right sweetie, I’ll go get the book, a drink of water and come and read it to you” “Can I come with you?” Chloe asked, her face full of fear, obviously afraid he was going to leave her if he left her sight for too long. “Stay here” he said gently pulling the Daily Planet sheet and comforter up to her chin “I’ll be back in two minuets, I promise” Chloe didn’t answer him, just screwed her eyes tightly shut and began counting “One, two, three, four……” he smiled and left the room to get the book, deciding to forgo the water, he walked back into Chloe’s room just as she had reached thirty, but now she had added the word second to the numbers “….second thirty, second thirty one, second thirty two, second thirty three” as her way of counting the second minuet. “I’m back” he announced his presence in her room. She cracked one eye open part way, as if to check that he wasn’t some closet monster mimicking her father’s voice. “Your back” She opened both eyes and grinned, looking as if she had just found a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. “I promised” he replied, his heart aching at how much she looked like her mother when she smiled. He sat down next to her bed and opened the book; it had been made personally for Chloe with her as the main character. “Chloe’s big day” he read the title aloud “Chloe had been waiting for this day for a long time, she was very excited why? You may ask? Because she got to visit the Daily planet Chloe had wanted to write for the Daily Planet ever since she could remember” “Daddy?” Chloe interrupted with a yawn “Yes sweetie?” he asked turning to look at her, “Can I really write for the Daily Planet?” she asked her big eyes, full of innocence. “You can do anything if you set your mind to it” Gabe said giving his daughter a smile and then he turned back to the book “She walked into the Daily planet building with her mommy and daddy….” 20 minuets and 2 books later, Chloe was finally asleep, albeit a restless one. Gabe walked back into his room thinking I’ll tell her the truth someday, but right now she’s just a baby I’ll shade her from the truth until I think she can take it, I can’t tell her about her mom now, I’ll tell her when she’s old enough to know the truth then almost as an after thought Someday. Hope you like it! |

I'm so glad you posted this here. I wanted to review it on ff.net, but it was off the main page before I got the chance, and I couldn't find it again. It's really touching and sweet. I'm very fond of Gabe stories -- we don't see much of him ordinarily, but you can tell Chloe means everything to him, and you really brought that across. |

Disclaimer: if I owned smallville do you think there would be as many Lana/Jason scenes as there are now? Thnx for the reviews, they are much appriciated! here's the 2nd chapter, hope you guys (or girls) enjoy it. “Chloe” Gabe sing-songed as he opened his daughter’s door “it’s time to wake up” His effort was futile however, as she was already awake and playing with her 2 Barbie dolls. “Morning Daddy!” She sang happily “When are we going to IHOP?” After 3 unsuccessful attempts at making Chloe’s favorite; Waffles for breakfast, he had decided to scratch the cooking idea for a few days until he could get the waffles you could stick in the toaster. He would make them before she woke up and hope she didn’t notice the difference from IHOP’s waffles and the store brand. “Where not going today, we have leftovers” Gabe reminded her “and you start school again, remember?” Her cheerful face and demeanor was tossed out like yesterday’s trash as she pouted “Do I have to go to school daddy?” She asked. “Yes you do” Gabe said firmly. He stepped into her room and pointed to the black overalls and green shirt outfit they had picked out the night before “School is non-negotiable” he said picking the outfit up and holding it out to her “Get dressed now” he told her in his no nonsense voice. “Ok” she sighed, as if he were asking her to climb Mount Everest instead of getting dressed for Kindergarten. Later she walked into the kitchen, fully dressed, with the exception of her shoes which were still untied “Daddy, please help” she said pitifully. He bent down and quickly tied them “There you go” “Thank you, now are you sure I have to go to school?” she asked. “Yes I’m sure Chloe” “Why?” she asked following him as he got the milk out and put it on the table. “Because the State of Kansas says so, Chloe please don’t get in my way again” he said as he nearly tripped over her on his way back into the kitchen to get the now (hopefully) hot waffles that he and Chloe had brought home the day before. “Do I have to do everything the state of Kansas tells me to?” Chloe asked. “You have to go to school until your at least 16, that’s when they stop paying for your education” That seemed to placate her and she was silent as they ate for a rare few minuets of silence, “Daddy? If The State of Kansas is going to stop paying for my ed-upay-shion” she slowly said education to the best of her ability. “Then why go to school at all if they aren’t going to pay for it?” “It’s the law Chloe” he said. “Why?” she asked a bit of syrup dripping down her chin, he handed her a napkin “wipe and I’m not sure why that’s a law Chloe” “Oh” Chloe said after wiping the mess up. “What time are you picking me up after school?” she asked. “2:30” he told her, trying to control his patience, she had asked him the same question 15 times the night before, he already knew what she was going to say before she said it where are you going to meet me? “Where are you going to meet me?” she asked. Her big eyes so innocent he wanted to scoop her up in his arms and tell her that everything would be alright and that mommy was coming home soon, but he couldn’t lie to Chloe. “Outside the kindergarten rooms” he recited. Chloe nodded glumly “Ok” she murmured Next question Gabe thought what will the clock look like at 2:30? Chloe, however, had other ideas, “You aren’t going to forget to pick me up are you?” she asked her chin trembling slightly. So that’s why we have had this conversation so many times Gabe thought she thought I was going to forget. “Of course not Chloe, how could I forget to pick you up? Who would help me decide what to get at IHOP?” Her smile was nonexistent “Mommy forgot” she said, her big blue eyes magnifying as they filled with tears. Gabe gave her a long hug as she quietly cried into his shoulder again. “Daddy?” she raised her head, her eyes still filled with tears “please don’t make me go to school I’ll go tomorrow I promise” “Chlo’ you have to go to school today, I need to work there’s no one to look after you” Gabe said and because I know you, you won’t want to go to school tomorrow either “I don’t want to leave you” she whispered fright clearly written in her voice. “How about you take something to school with you?” Gabe thought of an idea and grabbed at it. “Like what?” Chloe asked intrigued at the idea her dad had, however vague it was. “Like Your Barbie doll and when I pick you up we can go to the toy store and get her a new outfit” Gabe promised, her face light up like fireworks “Really?” she gasped happily “Oh thank you! Daddy!” she gave him a long hug then ran to her room yelling “DADDY! I’m going to take Lisa; I don’t think we’ll be able to get Gabe a new outfit” “I thought his name was Ken!” Gabe called after his daughter as he walked to her room and walked in on her dumping out an array of Barbie clothing out onto her floor “I changed his name to yours daddy” she said patiently. “Chloe why are you looking through all her outfits?” Gabe asked “I don’t want to get one that I already have Daddy” Chloe said looking up at him in wide eyed innocence. “We need to get you off to school and me to work, so let’s go clean up breakfast and if we get Barbie an outfit she already has, we can return it and buy a new one. What time does school start?” “8:00” Chloe said Gabe glanced at his watch, 7:15 “Let’s go, put Barbie in your backpack and let’s go clean up in the kitchen.” Gabe said as he saw Chloe start to undress Barbie She fixed the clothes and got up with her backpack. After they cleaned up the kitchen they went to Chloe’s school. Gabe went to her classroom with her “Got Barbie in your back pack?” he asked as she started to hug him so tight he could barley breathe. She nodded “uh huh” he detached her and sent her into the classroom. He turned, blinking back the tears that had suddenly come into his eyes when Chloe turned around to give him a final wave. He thought he saw a tear slowly coursing down one of her cheeks but he didn’t dare turn around and brush it away, because he knew if he did, Chloe would end up going home and tomorrow wouldn’t be any easier. Don’t turn around, you promised you wouldn’t turn around he coached himself as he walked across the playground to the parent parking lot. He made good on his promise until he got into the car and saw the review mirror, he couldn’t help but look behind him, seeing Chloe still in the door way of the kindergarten room waving still. The tears finally fell, unchecked, he didn’t try to stop them, it felt like he was saying goodbye for 6 years instead of 6 hours after the tears slowed, he waved back to Chloe, not knowing if she was still waving or not. He pulled out and left the school on his way to work, the first day of work as a single father. Please review! |

I've finally written a third chapter to this, hope you like it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chapter 3: Chloe gets sick “Daddy….Daddy…Daaaaaaaaddyyyyyyyyy” Chloe whispered gently shaking her dad. Gabe woke up with a start. “What Chloe?” Gabe asked, groggily. “I don’t feel too good, my tummy hurts.” She said, holding her tummy as she looked at her daddy beneath her eyelashes. “Ohhh, I knew I never should have let you have so much Halloween candy tonight.” Gabe groaned as he sat up and threw the covers back. “Lets go give you some tummy medicine” he said, guiding her into the bathroom. “Is the tummy medicine the stuff that Mommy said tasted like road kill?” Chloe asked as they walked. “No, that’s cough medicine.” Gabe said feeling like his heart had been ripped in two again. Chloe had actually been pretty good about not mentioning her mom. It was like she knew it caused her dad pain, but there were a few times that she just mentioned her and it always felt like his heart was split in two whenever she did. “Oh,” Chloe said. “What does the tummy medicine taste like?” she asked as they walked into the bathroom. “Well, why don’t you taste it and tell me?” Gabe asked. “Okay.” Chloe said. She hopped up onto the toilet seat and waited for her dad to measure out the medicine, 15 minutes later, Gabe had finally figured out what a TBSP was and how much of the cup it took up, and he shoed Chloe back to bed. Halfway to her room however, she stopped. “Daddy, I love you.” She said. “I love you too sweetie, go to sleep okay?” “Okay….Daddy?” “Yes Chloe?” “Could you sing to me again? Like you used too when I got sick?” “Sure Chloe.” Gabe walked into Chloe’s bedroom with her and, after tucking her into her Daily Planet sheets, he sang: Earth Angel, Earth Angel, will you be mine My darling, dear, I love you all the time I'm just a fool, a fool in love with you Earth Angel, Earth Angel, the one I adore I love you forever, and ever ever more I'm just a fool, a fool in love with you Chloe’s eyes grew heavy as she listened to her dad’s voice. He sang a bit quieter and finally finished the song. Earth Angel, Earth Angel, will you be mine My darling, dear, I love you all the time I'm just a fool, a fool in love with you. Chloe was asleep as Gabe got up and went back to bed, his heart a little more broken then before. Chloe’s Mom Terri had sung that song when Chloe was sick, and that song had been the last song they had danced to before Gabe proposed. It had been their song. Now it’s mine and Chloe's song. He thought as he slipped under the covers and fell asleep |

Thanks for the review guys, this story is basically about what I think happened between Chloe and Gabe after Teri left, so I don't think Teri will be in it a whole lot, if at all. |

Chapter 4: Christmas “Daddy! Wake up!” Chloe climbed onto Gabe’s bed and bounced up and down which made him wake up. “What’s wrong Chloe?” Gabe asked, thinking Chloe was sick again. “It’s Christmas morning!” Chloe said happily, still bouncing. “It’s here it’s really here!” “Where did you think it went?” Gabe asked as he sat up. Chloe finally stopped bouncing as she thought “I don’t know.” She said, thinking hard. “Don’t think too hard Chloe.” Gabe said as he got out of bed. “I guess you want to go open presents now huh?” he said. “Yes please.” Chloe was innocent as she said “I’d hate for all those presents to go to waste.” “Me too Chloe.” Gabe said. “Me too.” Chloe reached the living room before Gabe did and was bouncing again as she sat by a big pile of presents. “Let me get the camera and you can start opening your presents.” Gabe said. He grabbed their camera and Chloe started opening the presents, she had gotten books, some new clothes (Gabe had peeked into her closet and checked her sizes) some coloring books and crayons, a new Barbie doll, some new movies and a bunch of little candies in her stocking. Gabe had also given her an easy-bake oven and a mini scrapbook to do with his help. “I got lots of presents Daddy.” Chloe said. “Yes you did, I got them for you because I love you.” Gabe said. “ I made this for you in school.” Chloe said, she gave Gabe a crumpled paper bag. He opened it and found a pencil can covered in dried macaroni along with a picture frame made of Popsicle sticks. Also there was a book titled “Why I love Daddy.” Written by Chloe Sullivan with help from Lois Lane. “I called Lois and she helped me spell the words right.” Chloe said. Lois was Chloe’s cousin who was a year older then her, both girls adored each other and spent time talking on the phone several times a week. “Why don’t you read it to me?” Gabe asked. “Sure.” Chloe said, she climbed onto Gabe’s lap and opened the book. “Reasons why I love daddy.” She read. “I love my daddy because he makes me blueberry waffles, even if they are from IHOP. He takes me to the park and lets me swing as long as I want, even if it’s after dinner. He takes care of me when I’m sick, and he helps me with my homework. My daddy is the best daddy in the whole world and that’s why I love him so much.” Chloe finished reading. “That’s a wonderful book Chloe.” Gabe hugged Chloe, who was now 6. “Thank you.” “You’re welcome daddy.” Chloe said, she hugged him back and then asked “Can we have blueberry waffles today for breakfast?” “Sure.” Gabe said. He got up “Do you want to watch one of your movies while eating?” “Uhh huh.” Chloe said. She got up and went over to her pile of presents “Let’s watch………..Fly Away Home!” she said. Chloe had seen the movie in theaters and had begged to go see it again every single day. “Okay Fly Away Home it is.” Gabe said. He went into the kitchen, he’d finally figured out how to make blueberry waffles and was a pro at them. 20 minutes later, he came out holding a steaming plate of them. “Looks yummy!” Chloe said cheerfully. “It smells yummy too.” Gabe said, “Lets eat them before they get too cold.” Chloe had devoured about half the pancakes by the time the movie was finished. When Gabe was rewinding it, Chloe looked at him seriously. “The Geese are going to go back to Canada right?” she asked. “That’s right, they’re going to fly into Canada and back where they were born. It’s what Geese do, they’ve done it for thousands of years.” Gabe said. “Mommy’s not going to come back like the geese, is she?” Chloe asked. Gabe sighed, he knew this question was going to come up one day, he just hadn’t thought it would be this soon. He wanted so bad to say that Mommy was coming back and she’d be here tomorrow. But Gabe also wanted to tell his daughter the truth. He couldn’t lie to her like that. “No.” He finally said, "I don’t think Mommy’s coming back.” “Why? Doesn’t she love us anymore?” Chloe asked, her big blue eyes welling up with tears. “It’s not that honey, Mommy didn’t want to leave.” Gabe said, sitting next to his daughter on the couch. “Then why did she?” Chloe asked. “Because she couldn’t take care of us anymore. Mommy felt really bad about that and so she left.” Gabe said there was more to the story, but Chloe wouldn’t understand at this age. “I would have taken care of her.” Chloe offered. “It’s a bit late for that now honey.” Gabe said. He knew it wasn’t Chloe’s fault that Terri had left, it wasn’t his fault either, but sometimes he couldn’t help but think he could have done something to make Terri stay longer. “I wish it wasn’t too late.” Chloe said. “I wish it wasn’t too.” Gabe said, he picked Chloe up and set her in his lap. “I wish it wasn’t too late too.” |
