Title: Friendship

Disclaimer: I don't own Clark or any of the other SV characters, only the made up ones.

Alternate Universe: Clark is half alien with a problem

Summery: Clark meets a new friend

“Clark, pay attention!” he was looking out the window, obviously daydreaming. Mr. Parks banged his fist on Clark’s desk, which made him jump. “Solve the equation on the board.” Clark walked to the board, solved it then sat back down and tried his best to concentrate but his mind started to wonder again.

“He’s such a snob, why doesn’t he just stay home if he doesn’t want to be here.” “Yeah, if he’s so smart why is he even here?” Lana heard a couple say.

The bell rang giving her the opportunity to walk over to Clark, “In case you haven’t noticed, the bell has rung.” he looked up at her as if waking up from a dream, ‘oh no, I spaced out again.’ He grabbed his notebooks and crammed them in his backpack. “We never officially met,” Lana extended her hand, “I’m Lana Lang.” Clark quickly shook it, and pointed to his name on the notebook he still held in his hands. He swung the backpack over his shoulder he left.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Clark came into the house, throwing his backpack on the floor and heading to the living room. “How was school son?” Jonathan asked slowly, knowing the answer. Clark carelessly flipped through the channels, “I-I-I hate school, dad, y-you know that.” Martha walked over to him and turned off the TV while he stared at the cows outside. She stood there calling his name until she got his attention, “Do you have homework?” he nodded and got up as Martha followed to help him to keep focused or else he would never get finished.

Clark pulled out his notebook as soon as they reached the Loft. Martha felt sorry for him but was careful not to show it as she saw all the unfinished notes and drawings in the notebook. She noticed he had lost interest in getting his homework out and now found a new interest in the shapes in the clouds. She finished taking out his homework for him as she saw a smile formed on he face, a smile that she hasn’t seen for years. She walked up to him and snapped out of him reverie, “What’s gotten you so happy,” he looked at her, confused, “W-W-what?” “You were smiling, I haven’t seen you smile since you were six.” “I-I-It’s nothing...” When Clark didn't say anything else, she looked over at him and saw him looking out the window once again. Sighing she pulled him to the couch, where his homework was laid out for him.

Powers and emotions tied,
A witch’s heart is where it hides.
Help her though her agony,
Bless her with her memory.

Roxy closed her spell book and sled under her bed then she picked up her History book. ‘I’m gonna Ace this test.’

She sighed as she felt a gust of wind as her door blew open followed by a “Whatca doin’?” She rolled her eyes as her younger brother sped over to the bed and started jumping on it. “Get outta my room!” Crispin jumped off the bed, “Look what I can do.” He began to run in a circle, picking up speed and making a small tornado. “Crispin, stop, you’re messing up my room.” He did but only because he spotted the book under the bed, he picked it up. “Put that down!” “No! I wanna read it.” A small smile developed on her face, ‘If that’s how you want it’.

From now on, you will obey
Every little word I say.
Don’t talk back or cause a crime;
You’ll be perfect all the time.
You have lost and I have won;
You won’t have any more fun!

Thunder boomed and the lights flickered. Roxy smiled at the android-like eight-year-old but spoke in a calm voice this time, “Now, put that down and get out of my room.” “Yes Master,” he obeyed and tuned to leave the room but was stopped as a tall blond woman blocked his path. ‘Uh oh, busted.’ “Roxy Ann Parks, turn him back this instant.” “Fine.”

Nuf erom yna evah t’now uoy;
Eno sa kniht lliw ouy fo lla.
Emit eht lla tcefrep eb ll’uoy;
Emirc a esuac ro kcab klat t’nod.
Yas I drow elttil yreve,
Yebo lliw uoy, no won morf!

Roxy followed her down stairs, “But mom, He’s such a pest, he always comes in my room and he goes though my stuff.” Mrs. Parks just sighed, “You know haw I feel about putting spells on your brother.” “But...” “No buts. Now go to your room.” She started to protest but thought better of it as she stormed up the stairs, ‘No fair, mom always takes his side.’

‘Lana, what a pretty name.’ Not watching where he was going, Clark bumped into Roxy causing her books she was carrying to fall. He picked them up for her and ran the other way. ‘Strange,’ she thought as she walked to her locker.

Roxy carried her tray over to the table in the corner where Clark sat alone. “Do you mind if I sit here?” He shook his head but as she sat down he got up and threw his tray of uneaten food away, leaving a shocked Roxy sitting alone at the table.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“I’ve got great news,” Martha came in with pills, “the price for Ritalin went down and now we can afford to by them.” Clark hugged her. He was so happy that he could throw the old pills away that he doesn’t even take because the side effects made him hallucinate. He popped two in his mouth. “I have to go back to work, I just wanted to give you the pills.”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Roxy was never the one to give up. She looked at the yellow farmhouse and sighed, ‘I hate to do this but…’

Life to life and mind to mind,
Our spirits now will intertwine.
I meld my soul a journey to,
The one whose thoughts
I wish I knew.

She walked up the stairs and rang the doorbell. Clark answered it but slammed it in her face when he saw who it was. “Please I just want to talk to you.” He opened the door again but this time he carried a small chalkboard that read ‘go away’ in big bold letters, then he closed the door and locked it. She sighed. “I know about your speech impediment.” He slowly opened the door to peek outside to make sure no one had over heard and pulled her inside.

“H-h-how?” “I used to have a stuttering problem when I was seven and
I always felt so self-conscious about what other people think so I never talked in school or went anywhere,” she lied. Clark shifted uncomfortably, that was exactly how he felt.

After a few minutes of uncomfortable silence Roxy spoke, “I can teach you not to stutter.” Clark looked at her suspiciously, “W-w-why are you h-helping me?” “Because believe it or not, I’m tying to be your friend,” ‘Friend’ that word echoed in his mind, “I-I-I never had a f-friend before. Th-th-thank you.” “Anytime, friend.” Roxy gave a little wave as she left.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
After school the next day Clark had done his homework and chores then he popped in a movie as he sat down, eating popcorn. Pausing the movie he went and answered the door. He swallowed hard, trying to contain the lump in his throat as he slammed the door, ‘this is the last time that I answer the door.’ Sighing he reopened it before Lana left, carrying the chalkboard which now read ‘Hi’ Lana smiled, ‘He’s much nicer now.’ ‘Her smile is so beautiful.’ Clark erased the ‘Hi’ on the board and replaced it with ‘Do you want to come in’.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Hello?” Martha said, hanging up her jacket. She walked into the living room and saw that Clark wasn’t alone. Clark looked up and held the board, which now read, ‘Hi mom, this is Lana Lang’ She shook her hand, feeling a mixture of happiness that her son had finally made friends and sadness that they don’t even know that he can speak because of his ‘shyness’.

After Lana left Clark stood up and stretched. The phone rang as he reached the kitchen to put the bowl into the sink. “It’s for you, it’s Roxy,” Martha held out the phone in Clark’s direction but he didn’t take it. “I-I-I’ll take it upstairs,”

Clark picked up the black phone in his room. “H-h-hello?” he put her on speakerphone as he took off his black shirt and pants. He went to the dresser to pull out some pajamas when he heard a ‘Hello?’ he picked the phone back up, “C-c-can I call you b-back tomorrow?”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Roxy heard a dial tone as she still held her green phone up to her ear ‘he hung up on me.' she sighed and went to bed.

Clark came down the stairs the next morning and walked into the kitchen. He opened the fridge and poured himself a glass of water then he went over to the cabinet and got his pills.

He heard a knock at the door as he realized he had started daydreaming. He took the two pills and gulp them down along with the glass of water. He quickly put everything up as Roxy came in. “W-w-what are doing h-here?” “I’m here to help you.” Clark looked at her suspiciously as she smiled mischievously.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Roxy snapped her fingers and a second later she was in Clark’s room. ‘I better hurry before Clark comes back with my notebook.’ She opened the closet and turned on the light. ‘Ugh, what’s up with all the black, it’s so depressing… not for long.’

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Clark came in with Roxy’s green notebook when his super hearing kicked in. He ran upstairs to find Roxy throwing tons of clothes onto his bed. “W-w-what are you d-doing?” Clark asked calmly as he walk over to her and grabbed the black T-shirt from her hands, “L-l-leave my stuff a-alone! A-a-and get outta m-my house! ” Roxy rolled her eyes, “Okay, first of all this isn’t your house, it’s your parents and second of all you can’t expect to get friends with that attitude and black t-shirts with…” she started flipping though t-shirts, “…a giant eyeball, a bloody heart,…” she looked the shirt Clark had on now “…or a vampire’s skull…” Clark turned around “…that says ‘Bite me’ in bloody letters on the back.” “S-s-so, it’s my f-favorite shirt! Y-y-you know what I-I don’t need friends and I-I don’t need you! G-g-get outta my h-house and stay outa m-my life, this f-friendship's over!” Clark watched her leave, ‘good riddance’

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Martha came in and noticed Clark in the living room watching FUSE. “Feet off the table.” Clark immediately obeyed. She came and sat next to him, “Now, why was Roxy crying?” “W-w-what?” “When I pulled up Roxy was leaving and she was crying, when I asked her why shy told me to ask you. So why was she crying?” “B-b-because I told her w-we weren’t friends anymore.” “Why would you tell her that?” “B-b-because she’s crazy, s-she tried to get r-rid of all my c-clothes. S-s-she thought that if I-I dress differently people w-would like me better.” “Dress normal?” it was more of a statement than a question. “E-e-except I'm not... n-normal. M-m-my father was an a-alien and my mom w-was a human with d-disabilities that got p-passed on to me.” Clark turned off the TV and went outside to the loft.

Clark picked up an Astronomy magazine off the table and started reading trying to control his stuttering, “‘Th-th-think of Lyra and you p-probably recall visions of the R-Ring Nebula…’” Clark slammed the magazine closed and threw it against the wall. “You know, you shouldn’t abuse books like that.” Clark stood up, stuffing his hands in his pockets while sifting uncomfortably. He spotted the chalkboard but when he reached for it Lana stopped him, “You don’t need it. You don’t need to be ashamed or embarrassed about your stuttering, I think your perfect just the way you are.” He smiled. “I’m going to the movies with my friends, Pete and Chloe and I was wondering if you wanted to come too.” Clark’s smile quickly faded as he backed away from her and shook his head, “I-I-I can’t.” Lana notices fear in his eyes. She reached out and took his hands into hers, “It’s okay… you don’t have to come… but you can’t let fear consume your life. You need to look forward, embrace living, carpe diem and not be afraid of what people might think.” Clark nervously stuffed his hands in his pockets while sifting uncomfortably, He thought about it for a minute as Lana turned to leave. “W-w-wait…” he grabbed his black leather jacket, “…I-I-I’m coming too.”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Are you okay?” Roxy looked up from her fashion magazine, “Yeah, I’m okay. Why?” “Because you always twirl your hair when you’re upset.” Roxy immediately let go of hair, letting her red curls fall beyond her shoulders. Her mom sat down on her bed, “Now tell me what’s wrong.” “Nothing.” Mrs. Parks just gave her a look that said ‘Yeah right’. Roxy sighed, “It’s just this boy…” Roxy stopped once she saw the look on her mom’s face she quickly added, “We’re just friends… or at least we used to be before he went ballistic and broke off the friendship.” “Why did he go ballistic?” Roxy just shrugged, “Maybe because he caught me tying to… throw away his clothes.” Her mom just shook her head, “Roxy, how many times have I told you, you can’t just go around giving people ambush makeovers whenever you feel like they need one.” “But mom, he wears black all the time. He wears t-shirts with disgusting and deranged logos like a giant eyeball, a bloody heart or his favorite, a vampire’s skull that says ‘Bite me’ in bloody letters on the back and he wears a black wristband that has spikes on it.” “No matter how gothic…” Roxy cut her off, “It’s punk, mom not goth. Goths wear make up.” She rolled her eyes, “Anyway, as I was saying… no matter how punk and outrageous he dresses, you can’t force someone to change,” She handed Roxy the phone, “Call him and apologize.” She took the phone, “I’ll try.”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Martha headed downstairs to find some food. While taking a bite of a sandwich that she made, the phone rang.

She quickly swallowed before she grabbed the phone, “Hello?” “Hi Mrs. Kent… is Clark there?” Roxy asked from the other end. “No, I’m sorry but he went to the movies with some friends.” “Okay, bye,” After Roxy had hung up the phone Martha went back to eating her sandwich.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
‘I don’t why I came here.’ Clark was standing in line at the concession stand as Lana was ordering the snacks. Roxy came up to him, “Hi Clark…” Clark walked away from her. “Please Clark stop…” he kept walking until Roxy grabbed his hand, making him turn around. When he saw her tear streak face, he rolled his eyes and pulled her to a quiet corner. “I’m so sorry I almost threw your clothes away…it’s just that…” she trailed off, looking at her feet then back up at Clark, “…it’s just that I know how lonely you feel… I just wanted to help you make friends.” “A-a-apology accepted.” He whispered. “So does that mean were friends again?” Clark just nodded.
