Paranoid Schizophrenic!!!!!
Well, this is my first Smallville fic since I lost dad, so be patient. Updates might be slow. Second, I think it is probably the craziest crossover I've ever written, and NO it's not crossed with the TV show 'Lost' Third, just to make it even wilder, I decided to mix my crazy crossover with current 'Smallville' events! I'm not even sure I can pull this off! :p

Clark didn’t know how long he had waited in the loft after Chloe had left that day. It had seemed like he had sat alone on the aged wooden stairs forever, staring at some spot on the floor with little regard for what he was actually seeing.

Dying hadn’t been the hard part, oh no, living had been the toughie when it came to being human. How could he carry on, knowing that for his life another’s must be sacrificed? How could he live from day to day, not knowing which of his family or friends would be taken? Indeed, how could he even continue his newfound relationship with Lana now that he was mortal no more?

Despite his woes, that night passed uneventfully, and so had many more. Each one leaving the teenager with a little more hope that Jor-El’s threat had been an empty one- and yet, somewhere deep down, he still knew that it was not. The Kryptonian version of a father always made good his threats. There would be tragedy to come, Clark just didn’t know in what form yet.

“Hey, didn’t I leave you in this barn with that expression three weeks ago?” Chloe breezed in through the open timber door and put a hand on her waist. “Don’t tell me you’ve been moping in here ever since?”

The reporter knew he had not, but she also knew he’d not ventured back out into the real world a great deal either. Oh, he’d spun a tale to placate Lana explaining his ‘resurrection,’ but that was all. The old Clark had yet to return to brighten her otherwise mundane days.

“I was just…”

“You were just feeling guilty again!” Chloe took a seat next to her friend. “Clark you have to stop this.”

“How can I just go on as if nothing is wrong? How can I live each day, knowing someone in my life could die because of my mistake? What if it’s,” Clark stammered suddenly, realizing he was about to say ‘you.’ He looked away, and Chloe found herself standing again.

“I can look after myself. Didn’t I prove that with Gabriel?” The tiny blonde’s voice softened and she wished she could placate her friend more, but in truth she could easily be the bearer of more bad news.

Lex was up to something, of that she was sure. Trucks had been pouring in and out of Luthorcorp for the last four days, and one witness was convinced they’d seen something when one of the rigs had broken down a few miles out of town. The something in question had been described as sleek looking and black, kind of like a Stealth plane. Except, somehow, Chloe doubted the craft had been a plane- not in Smallville straight after a meteor shower that had brought with it two Kryptonian freaks.

“Someone’s coming,” Clark’s head cocked and he continued, “It’s Lex, I own the engine note of his Porsche…” The teen looked bewildered. He and the young entrepreneur hadn’t spoken since their fight. It seemed off somehow that he would suddenly appear at the Kent farm. Lana said he was looking into what happened at the hospital. He must be out here digging for more answers…

Chloe had the same thoughts. Lex wasn’t to be trusted, not after he’d set Clark up with the escapees from Belle Reve. Not to mention whatever he was up to back at the plant. “Be careful, Clark.” There was a look almost akin to fear in her eyes as she waited for the sport’s car’s engine to die.

Two minutes later, Lex’s black clad form sauntered into the Kent barn. He smiled wanly. “I was hoping to find you two here.” Lex tugged off his leather driving gloves and moved closer, careful to keep out of range of Clark’s right hook in case he decided to use it. “Are you,” he thought about his words, “are you alright after what happened at the hospital? I wanted to call sooner but after our disagreement…”

Chloe glared. So Lex was here under the guise of a remorseful friend, but really he was fishing for more information. She bit her tongue, hoping Clark wouldn’t be fooled easily by Luthor’s ever-charming façade.

Clark tugged up his t-shirt to reveal a totally un-necessary dressing. “I’m still healing, but yes, I’m alright.” His tone wasn’t jovial. It was more suspicious than anything. “What do you want, Lex?”

Lex smiled again almost apologetically and his voice lowered. “I want a truce, Clark. I know friendship may be too much to ask for right now, but I don’t want things to end badly like this between us. You die…you almost died. It shouldn’t take something like that for me to see I was wrong, I know, but at least let me show you there is still good in me…”

“And just how could you possibly do that?” Chlo had been ignored right from the get-go, but that didn’t mean she was going to exclude herself from the conversation. “You spied on Clark, you set him up, and everyone knows you’ve been asking questions since he got hurt.” She let her eyes burn into Lex’s. “What could you possibly do to prove you have even an ounce of humanity left in you?”

Lex’s licked his lips. “I can never change all of who I am, Chloe. I’ll always be a Luthor, and no matter how much I dislike it, sometimes Luthor traits are going to show. I admit I was curious how Clark survived that bullet too, but can you really condemn me for asking the question on almost every Smallville residents’ lips right now?”

Clark stood up, holding a hand over his non-existent injury for effect. “Just get to the point, Lex. I’m tired.” He raised a brow, and Lex gave in.

“I know everyone feels the work we do at Luthorcorp is dangerous for the local environment. I know people think we even do secret experiments there...”

Chloe huffed. “Think? We know!”

Lex ignored the sarcasm. “I want to open Luthorcorp to the public. No restricted access to any area. I’m also taking any research work away from the Kansas facility to an area more suited to such studies.”

“You mean the public can look because you’ve moved the real hair-raising stuff out already?” Clark shook his head. “Why are you telling us this?”

“There are no secret projects at Luthorcorp anymore. I’m simply moving my crop growth research elsewhere to placate the locals. I know they think my plant is the cause of all the mutations in the county, even if there is a more obvious cause…”

Clark was getting frustrated. It was bad enough worrying about who Jor-El was going to take, without Lex hatching something new- which he obviously was. “What have you come here for?”

“Honestly? I really was wondering how you were doing, but it’s Chloe I was hoping to convince to help me. I need someone who can write a balanced report on what they see, and I know Chloe won’t hold back on the truth.”

Chloe gaped. “You want me to work for you?”

“Not me exactly, more of a freelance item to prove to the public once and for all my crop growth experiments were just exactly that. It would mean travelling to the new site, but I’d be willing to pay your expenses…”

Chloe shook her head. Something was still off. Lex was being devious at a whole new level and it was baffling her. “There must be a million reporters you could pay. Even if you want honesty…” she shook her head, realizing the only way to find out was to go along for the ride. “Exactly where would I be expected to go?”

Lex’s face subtly changed. The fish had been baited and hooked in one fell swoop. Now he needed a second, bigger catch to finish his haul. “It’s a small coastal island I’ve managed to acquire. Solitary, no need to upset any locals or other companies…”

Clark winced. If Lex was really up to something, then Chloe could be in real trouble on her own. “Chloe…” The concern in his voice told Lex the ruse was working.

The businessman rubbed his hands together and looked Chloe right in the eye. “You can bring anyone along you see fit. Perhaps Lois? The daughter of a general shouldn’t miss anything secretive you think I might be concealing. Or perhaps you’d rather Clark?” Lex’s brow furrowed. “That is if he’s up to it?”

Chloe looked from Lex to Clark and back again in despair. It was easily apparent this was no ordinary job, maybe it was one huge trap, but if they wanted to find out what was going on, they really did need to jump into the lion’s den. If I can find out the truth this could be my biggest story ever- if I don’t die trying. “I can invite anyone I want?”

Lex nodded. It was time to reel in his second fish. “Just tell them to pack carefully. When I said I bought an island, it’s actually off the coast of Costa Rica…”

I want to scream with joy! Your new fic! At last! And you’re writing the crossover I so much wanted to read! I can’t tell you how happy this makes me! :D

I’m sure there’ll be plenty of adventures, and scary and intriguing moments, and evil cliff hangers, and heroic Clark, and TC!!! I can’t wait; literally!

Lex is evil and you’ve made already clear that he has a very well devised plan ready for Clark. And the fact that the action is going to happen away from Smallville, with Clark and Chloe together in a strange, dangerous land, makes me VERY excited about the story. And I love that Chloe knows all about Clark here! You’ll pull it all off, oh, yes, you will! And with best grades!

This first part was as excellent as I’d have expected. You leave a happy reader here waiting for the great moments ahead. I won’t push, I’ll be waiting as patiently as I can (it’s going to be hard though) :(

Thanks for writing and posting again! :D

Thanks for your support, Folks! Well, this is the part where you find out what I did cross this fic with  I wanted something a little different for Clark to have to battle than regular meteor freaks, and this was what happened :p And yes, I did need to include 'certain people.' They keep farmboy on his toes

Clark waited almost thirty minutes after Lex’s departure before he entered the Kent kitchen. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to face his parents, but he had to gather his thoughts about what he was going to say first. After all, after what Lex had been up to lately, Jonathan and Martha were not likely to want him to go anywhere with Lex, let alone Costa Rica.

“I could have sworn I heard a car pull up earlier…” Jonathan Kent spoke to his son while leaning over to peer out of the window, coffee mug in hand.

Clark nodded, unsure how to begin. “It was Lex…”

Instantly, Jonathan whirled from the window and frowned at his son. “What did Luthor want? Your mother and I don’t appreciate his presence on the farm after what he did to you.”

“He said he wanted to talk to Chloe. He offered her a job, in fact.” Clark pulled out a chair beside the kitchen table and leaned over on his knees, contemplating. “I think it’s some kind of trick, but I can’t let Chloe go alone.” He looked up to Martha, knowing his mother would sympathize and bend easier than Jonathan would.

“Go where, Clark?” Martha’s face was already showing concern.

Clark sighed. “Lex is setting up some new facility on an island off the coast of Costa Rica. He says it’s better for his research into crop growth to be moved to allay locals’ fears that he’s polluting Smallville somehow.”

Jonathan almost gaped, and he swiftly set his mug down to place a caring hand on his son’s shoulder. “Son, you don’t honestly believe any of that?”

Clark shook his head. “I believe the facility is real, but I think Lex is using Chloe to get me there for some reason. He can’t let go of the idea that I rose from the dead and he’s intent on finding out how.” The teen exhaled deeply. “I’ve drawn Chloe into my world now, and she’ll be in danger because of it…”

“Sweetheart, you can’t be thinking of going?” Martha’s voice rose to a higher pitch than normal. “It’s too far! And you know his crop research involves meteor rocks…what if he’s worked out your weakness?”

“Mom, I need to know just what he’s up to on that island, and I can’t let Chloe go it alone.” He looked to the floor, a fierce longing in his soul to be normal again, to be human, so that he could placate Lex once and for all.

Jonathan took the nearest seat, still angry that Lex could manipulate his family this way. The annoyance was audible in his tone. “Just how on earth did Luthor fund buying an island anyhow? I know the family aren’t exactly poor, but an island? Just for crop research? I don’t buy it.”

“No, actually Lex was the one buying it, and for a knock down price so I hear.” Lois Lane breezed into the Kent kitchen as if she still lived there and poured out a mug of black coffee. When everyone remained silent, but stared at her agape, she smiled. “Gee, it’s nice to see you again Lois…how have you been…”

Clark rolled his eyes. “When did you get back in town? And just how do you know about what Lex is up to?”

Lois grinned smugly and crossed her arms. “Chloe just rang and invited me on the trip, that’s how I know. She’s been checking on Lex since she left you here, and it sounds like she’s found out some pretty interesting stuff…”

“I am so not going to Costa Rica with the girl version of Rambo…” The twinkle in Clark’s eye told Lois he was teasing, but what she didn’t see was the deeper set concern that yet another friend was going to be put in danger. Why would Chloe invite Lois? It was bad enough me having to watch Chloe’s back out there…it’s all too easy for Jor-El to carry out his threat…

“Ha, very funny, Smallville! Have you ever thought that’s exactly why Chloe invited me? Someone has to watch your butts. Besides, I’ve been around ‘the General’ enough to know a secret facility when I see one. If Lex is hiding something, we’ll have a pretty good shot at finding it between us.”

And Jor-El will have a pretty good shot at taking someone’s life…

“When you two have finished squabbling, we might actually get to hear what Chloe has discovered.” Jonathan looked at Lois questioningly. “You said Lex bought the island for a knock down price?”

Lois took a sip of her drink and nodded. “The local government needed the previous owner’s mess clearing up and Lex offered to do it. A brave move, considering…”

“Considering what?” Lois had Clark’s attention. “What is it you know?”

“The previous owner was InGen. Surely you remember the scandal a few years back? Sheesh, it was all over the news, even in a hick town like this, I’m sure!”

Martha frowned. “The name does seem familiar, but I can’t place it.” She shook her head apologetically.

Lois exhaled and took another sip of her drink. “Maybe you remember InGen’s owner better. He was a nice old guy, grey hair, beard, by the name of John Hammond. He had this grand, but totally whacked out idea for a theme park on some tropical island…until it all went horribly wrong…”

The Kents still seemed puzzled. Theme parks were not really something they paid attention to. Clark, on the other hand was beginning to realize what Lois was getting at. It had been all over the news for weeks at the time, but that had been years ago when he was just a kid. “The guy who used genetics to recreate…”

Lois nodded. “Yup, dinosaurs. Mr Moneybags Luthor has gone and bought himself La Isla Nublar!” She smiled. “I’m quite looking forward to hiking around the place. Even if all I get to see are a few dino-skeletons.”

Clark gaped. Martha gaped. Jonathan gaped.

Eventually, Clark managed to think of something to say. “Lex agreed to clear the island in exchange for being able to buy it for his own research? Do the authorities out there know he’ll be using the place for more experiments?”

Lois shrugged and managed to find the cookie jar, even though it had been moved since her last visit. She munched on one of Martha’s finest. “Who cares, but we’ll get one hell of a trip out of him, Smallville. Three girls, one very weird farmboy, and a bald millionaire. Who could ask for more?”

Clark scowled. “Three girls?”

Lois grinned. “Don’t worry, I promise no witchcraft this time. Besides, I can’t help Lex inviting Lana along, can I?”

“Lana wouldn’t…she’s wary of Lex…” Clark stammered. The situation was getting worse by the second. This is going to be open house for Jor-El… I have to go now, or I’d never forgive myself. But what if he chooses mom or dad while I’m gone?

“I guess she can’t go without your rural charm for a week. There’s just no other explanation!” Lois winked.

Jonathan crossed his arms in frustration. Clark did need to know what Lex was up to, and the girls did need to be protected, but that didn’t change the farmer’s gut feeling that this was very wrong. Still, Clark was eighteen, and they did need to let him make some of his own choices, even if they sometimes were not made with the best of judgement. Lana

Clark peered at Lois, aware of the tension in the air. “Has Lex given Chloe any kind of date yet?”

“He sure has,” Lois beamed, finally setting her drained mug down on the counter. “We fly out next week. That is if you can force yourself to travel with me?”

Clark shot his parents a glance. For once, putting up with Lois was going to be a walk in the park compared to his other problems.

The Following Week…

The Luthorcorp helicopter skimmed over the ocean’s surface, casting playful shadows on the crashing white waves below. It was just a short distance from La Isla Nublar now, and its passengers were becoming jittery- some with excitement, some with dread.

Clark had never really wanted to make this trip, and from her expression he guessed neither had Lana, and yet here they both were heading for a place the press had once dubbed ‘Island of the Lost.’

Lex had assured them on numerous occasions that the island was now devoid of any prehistoric creatures, but somehow Lex’s assurances didn’t amount to much any more. For all Clark knew, Lex could be continuing Hammond’s research in this remote corner of the world. With maybe a little meteor rock to enhance the proceedings…

“Is everything alright, Clark?” Lana squeezed his hand and followed Clark’s gaze out onto vegetation below.

“I was just thinking of all the weird animals that must have been here when this place was Jurassic Park. It’s kind of scary to even imagine it was ever real.” The teen x-rayed the flora to his left, scouring every tree and patch of underbrush for signs of abnormalities.

Lex took the piercing gaze almost exactly for what it was. “We’re quite safe. My people assure me they cleared every last sector of the island. There’s nothing here now only several abandoned InGen complexes and the one I refurbished for my labs.”

“How are your experts so sure there’s nothing dangerous left out here? Hammond’s people were supposed to have been sure last time, and how many died here?” Chloe had done her homework, and it was time to put the pressure on Lex.

The businessman smirked. “InGen sent hunters- basically men with rifles. It was a totally unplanned, senseless operation. My teams flooded la Isla Nublar with a very potent gas to kill anything dangerous before anyone set foot on the island. Since then, motion sensors have been installed and regular security teams scour the isle. Trust me, there’s nothing here but a few monkeys.”

“Maybe we’re the monkeys…” Lois shot her host an acerbic grin that said she took everything he offered with a pinch of salt.

Lex ignored the remark and pointed to a dull grey building they were fast approaching. It was surrounded by some kind of electric fence, and trees encroached it’s boundaries on every side. “This is the command center of my new facility. Most of the scientific work goes on in the underground labs left over from Hammond’s days. Over that rise,” he pointed again, “is where the actual crop is being monitored.”

“You have a crop here already?” Chloe appeared surprised.

“Of course,” Lex grinned affably. “That’s what this project is all about. Accelerating the growth ratio of certain organic produce to help farmers in third world countries…” As he finished his sentence, the chopper began to descend onto a small helipad. It too remained within the prison-like compound.

The Jetranger bounced as it came into contact with the concrete, and then settled gently on its newfound home. Before anyone could exit, a small wiry man appeared from a nearby doorway and scurried to the chopper’s nearest door. He tugged it open, ignoring the downdraught from the Bell’s still whirling rotors. “Good to have you back with us, Mr. Luthor.” He shook Lex’s hand heartily and then spoke a few more words huskily into his boss’s ear.

After a moment, Lex pulled back and addressed the group. “This is Frank Levine,” he shouted over the dissipating rotor noise. “He’s my head of security here and will be showing you around today.”

You’re not giving us the tour?” Lois mocked disappointment, but was already wondering just where Lex was really going. All three of her companions had the same thought at the same time. Levine had given the millionaire some bad news, but what?

“I need to talk about our budget with the project leader, Dr. Gregor. I’ll catch you up shortly.” Lex moved off without offering further explanation, and his tone said he was suddenly not happy.

“I wonder why he’s so upset?” Lana asked softly, wrinkling her nose.

Clark shook his head. He didn’t know, but he had a feeling they weren’t supposed to find out.

I'm very happy with the update, very happy with the story and very unhappy with "certain people". :(

Oh, well, nothing can be perfect so I'll just have to relax and enjoy the wonderful ride you are offering us. This is such an amazing, original idea, with so many possibilities, that I'm totally thrilled about the whole concept.

I, as Clark, am a bit puzzled at Chloe's idea of taking someone else along, knowing that Clark's abilities must be kept a secret and risking that secret, somehow. Besides, wouldn't she want to have Clark, for once, all to herself? I guess she thought any help would be welcome. :)

Is Lana still Clark's girlfriend here? I wonder why Lex would invite her. I suppose she'll have a role to play in Lex's dubious schemes, but her presence makes things more difficult for Clark, in every sense. Poor boy, far away from home, on a dangerous island with evil Lex and those girls!

An isolated place, tensions among the characters, creepy creatures, hidden labs, villains, meteor rocks... I'm sure there are going to be quite a few fascinating elements here; and then there's your great writing to gather everything together and set things in motion. I can't wait for the next instalment of this awesome tale!

More when you can, please! :D

Yes, this takes place pretty soon after Hidden, so Lana and Clark are still an item- something Lex plans to change, that's why he manipulated her along for the ride ;)

I put all 3 girls in for a reason, don't worry. heheheh. What fun would it be if I had no one for farmboy to rescue/fret over muhahaha

Well, for my current class I'm writing a paper on "Sunset Boulevard." Can you imagine "SV" crossed with that movie? How sick would that be?

Let's see -- Lana could be the deluded ex-movie queen, and Clark could be the poor screenwriter caught in her clutches, and Chloe could be the young aspiring writer who loves him, and maybe Lex could be Lana's bald butler with a dark secret . . .

Come to think of it, it might actually work! ;)

Okay, this is a real update :p Renee, I'd need something a little more action packed than that  You know me...

Lex left his guests behind somewhat reluctantly, but he knew if Gregor wanted him this urgently there must be some kind of problem. Problems were not what he needed right now.

The millionaire sauntered through two electric security gates, and was met by the tall, pedantic scientist at the third. “Mr. Luthor. I’m so glad you’re back. We have something of a predicament on our hands…”

Lex wasn’t amused, and chose to show his annoyance. “Dr. Gregor, I have guests who I wish to take out to the crop. Couldn’t this have waited?”

Gregor pulled off his glasses and wiped them with a small white cloth. “I’m afraid this concerns the crop, Lex. No one should go out there until it’s resolved.”

“Don’t tell me you’ve had more unexpected results from the meteor rock exposure?” Lex followed Gregor into an elevator that took them to an underground chamber. Gregor then escorted his superior into a nearby lab.

“No, nothing like that.” The scientist opened a refrigerator and brought out several different fruits. All had been ravaged by something with very sharp incisors. “The crop is being pillaged by certain wild animals. Animals that I believe should no longer exist on la Isla Nublar…”

Realization dawned on Lex’s normally stoic features. “You’re telling me some of the prehistoric animals survived the gassing? That’s impossible! And even if it wasn’t, what’s the danger. They’re herbivores if they’re eating fruit, right?”

Gregor didn’t look convinced. “As Dr. Grant once commented, life will find a way, Mr. Luthor. We have no way of knowing what we’re dealing with out there. And those teeth impressions don’t look like any herbivore I’ve ever seen…”

Lex huffed. “I brought you here because of your expertise with the meteors. As far as I’m aware you have no qualifications in the study of dinosaurs or the Jurassic period. I want facts, Gregor. Find out what is out there, and fast. I can’t have my guests finding any of this out. Bring in an expert in the field if you have to…”

“And the other project, Mr. Luthor? Do we continue to evaluate the ship?”

“Have you penetrated its hull yet?” Lex was tired of waiting for answers, tired of skating around the obvious truths that were before him. Soon, he would get in the ship one way or another. After all, that was one reason why he’d manipulated Clark onto the island.

Gregor winced. “I’m afraid not. However, everything else you requested at the second facility has been arranged, and the ship is safely in place.”

Lex pinched his nose. First, he would give the teenagers the proposed tour. Then, he would make sure Clark and Lana were separated from the group, and he would set about the first stage of his plan.

A buzzer sounded and the millionaire looked up to see Gregor jog over to his desk. The scientist pressed a button. “Gregor here, what’s the problem?”

A disembodied voice crackled with static. “Can you and Mr. Luthor come to control room one, Sir. I think we have a weather front moving in. It looks like it could be a pretty big storm.”

Gregor glanced at his superior, but Lex shook his head. There was no time for playing weather man. He moved over to the intercom. “How long before the storm reaches the island?” He demanded.

“Several hours yet, Sir. However, that can change rapidly dependant on certain factors…”

Lex ignored the warning. Being stuck in a lab with all the teens was not part of the master plan. “Set up the tour of the crop area immediately for my guests. We should be back before the storm gets anywhere near the island.”

Gregor winced, but the worker on the intercom dare not defy his master. “I’ll have transport arranged right away, Sir. The Hummers should be ready at the main entrance in ten minutes.”

Lex nodded, satisfied, and smirked at the less than happy Gregor as he departed the scientist’s office.

* * * * *

Lois Lane dodged into the first Hummer with its emblazoned Luthorcorp logo, and plopped down onto a seat next to Clark with grin. “So, what’s so interesting about a field full of fruit anyhow, Smallville? Can’t we go look at dinosaur skeletons or something?” She winked, knowing the real reason Chloe had agreed to this trip and why they were all on it.

Clark rolled his eyes. “I’m sure it will be enlightening, Lois.” Lex had no real interest in saving the world anymore, and Clark was pretty sure the crop growth experiment was merely a front for something bigger. In any case, he was still happy to go view it, because the quarters they’d been given put him on edge all the time.

Living and sleeping underground in a glorified lab for a week was not high on his to do list. Laboratories freaked him out, plain and simple.

“Don’t you want to see world hunger wiped out?” Lana sounded serious as she questioned Lois, and the way her nose wrinkled showed it. Right now, she was the only one in the group who even half-trusted Lex. And even that trust had been pushed to its limits lately after he’d pried into Clark’s medical history.

Still, Lana felt compelled to defend Lex to a point, because he knew her secret. A dark secret that had been hidden by the second meteor shower, but that Lex could always resurrect. Lana had killed someone. It had been self defence, and Genevieve Teague had attacked her, but murder was murder…

“I’d love to see world hunger wiped out,” Lois replied, “but the only way Lex Luthor is likely to do it is with a bomb to its population, not a fruit crop. Come on, you don’t really believe all this do you?” She waved her hands around at the refurbished complex. “Call me a skeptic, but no way has Lex paid for all this for a field full of food…”

Clark knew Lois was right, but he wasn’t about to agree in front of Lana. Things had been strained between them since he regained his powers anyway, and he didn’t want to push things further. Soon, they would need to talk, and he would need to make a choice on whether or not to tell the ex-cheerleader his secret, but first he had to deal with La Isla Nublar.

“Is everyone ready?” Lex approached the car and cut off further conversation. He spoke to the group through the rear window of the Hummer with a wry smile. “There may be a storm headed our way so I’d like to get things moving.”

Chloe had exited the building with Lex and was now standing at his side. “I’m ready if everyone else is.” She grinned, eager to get on the scent of her new case.

The others nodded, and Chloe hopped in next to Lana while Lex held the door for her. She flashed her digital camera at her friends. “Anyone up for a few fun shots before we get to the real story?”

Clark shook his head and looked to the already darkening sky. Somehow the words fun and La Isla Nublar didn’t sit well together. Soon, he would find out why.

It took about thirty minutes to reach Lex’s latest hobby, and all the way there Clark couldn’t help but notice one thing- the path the Hummers took was protected by a high voltage electric fence. He would have questioned Lex about it, but the bald businessman had chosen to take the first Hummer and travel alone. What questions is he afraid we’ll ask?

“Get a load of security around here.” Lois powered down her side window and poked her head from the vehicle. “That fence would do my dad’s unit proud. Are they trying to keep us in, or something else out?”

Lana winced. “What could they want to keep out?”

“Oh, say maybe a few stray raptors that Lex’s gassing missed…” Chloe let the sentence hang and took several shots of the terrain and electric barriers.

“The what?” Lana appeared startled, which was just the effect Chloe had been hoping for.

“Velociraptors. Didn’t any of you guys do your homework on this place except me?” Chloe shook her head in disdain. “Hammond had a real problem with the raptors when this place got overrun with the dinosaurs. They can run up to 40MPH, and have this pretty mean hooked claw they slice at you with…”

Lana pulled a face that said she suddenly didn’t like dinosaurs, or the idea of a Jurassic Park. “But Lex said they’re all gone.”

Chloe smiled knowingly. “Then why the hi tech security grille all around this dirt track excuse for a road?” She took a few more shots. “Knowing Lex, he probably continued the cloning and DNA research for himself out here…”

“Not that he’s likely to let us see that side of the island.” Clark hunched forward with a sigh, hating the fact that he now distrusted Lex so much. He pointed ahead. “It looks like we’ve reached our destination.”

The lead Hummer had pulled off the track and Lex was now climbing out. He waited until the second military designed vehicle came to a halt and then opened the door for his guests to exit. Clark noted Lex watching Lana as she climbed out, and felt a sudden pang of jealousy. Lex is up to something, and it involves Lana somehow…

Lex didn’t seem to notice the teen’s gaze, or if he did, he didn’t show it. “Welcome to my latest project.” He smiled and gestured to the crops behind him. “As you can see, the yield is already almost ready for harvest, and yet Dr. Gregor didn’t plant this crop until just a few short weeks ago. We estimate the growth factor is almost three times faster than an average yield.”

Lois put her hands on her hips. “Impressive, but there has to be drawback.” She walked forward until she was almost level with Lex. “Why does it look like the south corner of this field has already been harvested?”

Lex smirked. He was already seeing why Chloe had brought Lois along, and it was not a trait he appreciated. Chloe was inquisitive but could be controlled, Miss Lane was something else and he didn’t like it. Put the two cousins together like this and his little plan could be in jeopardy. “We had some wild animal activity. Monkeys, that kind of thing pillaging the crops…”

Clark x-rayed the remaining fruit and noted some had indeed been gouged at, but the impressions left behind didn’t exactly match small animals or monkeys. “You erected an electric fence capable of keeping a rhino out, just for a few monkeys?” He questioned.

Lex’s facial expression told the group he was becoming annoyed, but he was careful not to show it in his voice. “I thought we came out here to let Chloe see just how far this project has come in such a short while. Do a few random problems with the local wildlife really fit into the equation?”

Chloe shook her head and decided to play along. Lex was manipulating them, and in turn they had to think like a Luthor and manipulate right on back. “Lex is right. Let’s take a closer look at the crop and forget the monkeys.” She took more photos; focusing in on several close shots of the fruit Lex was growing.

“Like I said, we’re the monkeys around here…” Lois mumbled further under her breath, but followed the others as Lex began his tour of the field.

Clark brought up the rear of the ensemble, keeping a close watch on all three girls as well as the heavily armed security men that had somehow appeared from nowhere. They kept a discrete distance of course, but Clark didn’t miss a trick. “Is it true you’re still using meteor rocks to enhance the crops growth?” I better know just how close I can get to this stuff…

Lex turned around and addressed the group, seemingly unafraid to be honest about what he was up to. “We have used meteor rock elements in some of our research, yes, but nothing that would harm anyone, I assure you.” To prove his point, Lex plucked a nearby Pear and took a bite. “I trust my scientists…” He plucked a second fruit and tossed it to Clark.

The teen caught it and rolled it around in his left palm cautiously. Was this some kind of test? Would he be safe eating a fruit whose origins could be traced back to Kryptonite exposure?

Chloe let her camera drop down until its weight was only held by its strap. Of the entire group, only she knew what was really going through Clark’s head in that moment. Is Lex trapping Clark? Don’t eat that damn thing!

A real update, Yay!!! (Hey, and I enjoy your other comments too! :D )

How can I tell you how much I'm loving this fic! I actually enjoyed the first "Jurassic Park" movie a lot, (*whispering*: it was Malcom who made that comment about life. :p ) but this story is much more appealing to me. Having Clark there, with Lex as the villain and raptors on the run makes me giddy with anticipated glee! Oh, how much fun this crossover is for me!

I enjoyed that Miss Lane was nagging Lex and no Clark, for a change. And Chloe's concern for Clark is so wonderful to see and read! I'm afraid Lana is going to be an easy prey for Lex and, maybe, for the raptors.

You are throwing the most wonderful elements into the mix: the ominous island from where no one, but Clark, could escape, the murderous animals, the ship, the labs, meteor rocks, a test and a trap for the farm boy... And let's not forget there's a storm heading for the island! Everything is perfect, just PERFECT!

Can't wait to read more, can't wait, can't wait......... :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:
