No need to apologize, Marvelman! That's what makes us such a great bunch. We all see something different in the show, and don't knock one another's likes/dislikes ;)

Like I said, I liked it too! :D

Quick question? What other powers does AC actually have then?

The part I really liked was the final scene between Clark and Lex. The expression on MR's face when Clark told him he defended him was really good.

I give this Episode a B-.

Lana's presence in the episode seemed really contrived and contributed nothing to the story, (I enjoyed the jealousy she showed when Clark took an interest into why/who Lois was dating!! :P: ).

It sucked that JS & AO were missing, but considering Chloe now knows his secret, he can go to her when he has a crisis/emergency that he has to deal with instead of his parents all the time. (I'm not saying I like them being gone, I am just pointing out something!! :) )

On the other hand, I loved the Lois being back and the Lex scenes and the Professor Fine scenes. It was hard listening to Marsters without the British accent, and I prefer that to this one ten times over.

It's nice to see Lex on the brink, you can almost imagine the devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other! He seemed so shocked when Clark told him that he defended him, it was actually kind of sweet.

I really liked the JLA reference! :slogo:

Okay, I'm not a Buffy fan, so enlighten me? Is James Marsters a Brit, or just a Buffy character with a Brit accent? I'm curious, because as a lot of you know I'm a Brit myself

Still like the eppy too...

I don't think he is British, just his character on Buffy was ;) I'm assuming that's his real voice we heard last night ;)

No, he isn't British - he is American. He was born in Greenville, California, and raised in Modesto, California. I believe he trained as an actor at the Julliard School in New York. :)

Here's a clip from his homepage; he's on the Craig Kilborn show, doing a few accents - including a little British! :)

I will say I liked this episode very much...but I will say that if AC had said "Bro" one more time I would've joined Lex in starving him of his water! It was like "Kinetic" revisited.

But other than that and a few cheesy references, I give this episode a B+

Title: "Aqua"

Synopsis: A future sea king pays Smallville a visit when things get a little too "fishy" at LuthorCorp. Will Clark maintain the "scales" of justice or will this "spawn" a feud with his newly landed friend?

The Good:

- The mere fact that TPTB decided to recognize that Aquaman had a history before his appearance in the Justice League or the Super-Friends for that matter was perhaps this episodes best aspect. Aquaman (or AC as he was known in this episode) has been one of those characters whose powers and abilities have always limited him whenever he teamed up with other heroes to some of the more contrived ways of getting him near water. And, while this episode was really no different than what we've historically seen in the comics, I have to hand it to the writers for making it a valiant effort. AC came off as being a rather intelligent being whose concerns for the planet offset his sense of right and wrong. Anyone who's read his adventures in the comic books knows this has been one of his greatest strengthes (and one of his greatest weaknesses as well). While I could have done without the orange and green outfit he wore throughout most of the episode (like they were doing everything they could to remind us just who AC really was), it was more of a distraction to me than anything else. The obvious comparisons with how this episode handled AC and the way "Run" handled Bart Allen should not be overlooked. For instance, the whole way these three future heroes came together to overcome the common threat or evil in their respective outings was more than adequate for fans of the comics and the Justice League in general.

- Clark and Lex. The interplay between these two characters is continuing to heat up as the fallout of their "arguement" in "Mortal" becomes more evident. I especially liked how Lex thought he had the better of Clark by telling him that he must have forgotten that only to have Clark come back with reminding him that he truly had not forgotten. This was a very meaningful scene, foreshadowing things to come IMO.

- Lois. As always, Erica Durance was given the long-awaited chance to shine in this episode and, like the professional that she is, did not disappoint. Her "take no prisoners" scene with AC by first telling him that saving her didn't give him the right to "slobber all over her" and then kiss him back was classic Erica Lois. Any other Lois would have played this scene differently; but not Erica. She showed us that General Sam Lane's oldest girl was all about taking control and keeping it all to herself. At the risk of being spoilerish, I look forward to what she's got in store for us in the upcoming "Exposed".

The Bad:

- First and foremost, I once again defy someone to show me where in Kansas where a place like Crater Lake is supposed to exist. Living just a stone's throw from the eastern state line of Kansas, I can guarantee, topography like that does not exist anywhere in that state like we've seen in this episode. Kansas is extremely flat with only mildly rolling hills and lots and lots of wheat and corn fields.

- The Acting. With the exception of a few scenes (like those I mentioned above), I felt everyone was stiff and not really in tune with their character in this episode. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that this episode was one of the first shot for this season as badly as everyone seemed to be having getting into character. Even Tom Welling, who's turned in some great performances this season, just seemed to be going through the motions. Now, to a certain degree, it could be blamed on the fact that none of the major players really were the focus of this episode and therefore shouldn't have been expected to shine as others; but even the actor playing AC was flat. His performance was almost, if you'll forgive the pun, like a dead fish.

- The Dialog. Speaking of puns, I'm sorry, but this was abysmal. Who's idea was it to decide that whenever a future hero appears on "Smallville", there at least has to be one lame reference to the Justice League? In "Run", it was "We should form a team or league..." and in "Aqua" we had that horrid "Junior Lifeguards Association" quip. Okay, we got it, ha ha, wasn't that clever? Maybe if the WB hadn't been pushing the idea that Aquaman was guest-starring in tonight's episode, it would have been; but then, if they hadn't been pushing it, the entire episode would have been more enjoyable. I can't help but wonder if they didn't continue saying that he was going to be in the episode, it wouldn't have made for a better show. Instead, though, they gave away the secret that fans should have been given the chance to figure out on their own. (See my review last week on how the writers should allow the audience to figure things out on their own for more information).

- Lex's Evil Scheme. My God, did it really have to be something so cliche as a weapon LuthorCorp was developing for the military? Early spoilers for this episode told us it was going to be a possible environmental threat that LuthorCorp's daily operations was causing. Why couldn't we have stayed with that idea? Creating this whole sonic weapon / contraption and Lex's speech about "..a few dead fishes..." made me think that if Lex had been wearing a moustache, he would have been twisting the corners and grinning as he said it. What next? Tie Chloe to the train tracks and threaten to foreclose on the Kent's farm? Are we talking about Lex Luthor here or Dr. Evil from Austin Powers? Can't you just see Michael with his pinky to his face saying: "To keep me from killing all the fishes in the sea, I demand the sum of...1 MILLION DOLLARS!"?

Overall:

As I said before, the comparisons between this episode and "Run" will be made for better or for worse. The premises were too closely related. While last season's "Run" will go down as one of the better episodes from an otherwise lousy season, "Aqua" seemed to be just the opposite. While I'm hoping this will be the lowest point we reach this season, I can't help but wonder if this is just a sign of things to come if the episode doesn't have anything to do with on-going continuity of Lex vs Clark, Clark and the FoS, and Brainiac (which is coming along slowly but nicely thanks to seasoned actor James Marsters). Since "Aqua"'s airing, it's been reported that Aquaman seems to be enjoying a resurgence in popularity with this appearance, his continued mentioning on the HBO series "Entourage", and the much-talked about goings on with the character and his retooling in the upcoming "Infinte Crisis" comic book series; one can't help but wonder if Warner Brothers isn't "testing the waters" for a possible REAL major motion picture with the character. Whether that's possible or just rumor remains to be seen, but one thing's for certain, if "Aqua" is any indication on how the character is going to be handled, I say keep working at it.

Grade: C-

You have given us another great review Wayne. I have decided to forgive you for all the truly awful synopsis puns as they brilliantly fit in with the overall level of the episode!!
