Okay, as some of you know I've been having a devil of a time trying to write fic lately because of personal issues. I have managed a Supernatural one however, and have decided if I can do that, maybe a crossover will get me back into Smallville fics! This carries on from my Supernatural fic 'The Ride' but only barely. You really don't need to read that to read this.

Author’s note: I’ve taken a few liberties with the time frame to make events in this fic work. Please don’t bash me!

The October sun beat squarely down on the Kansas farmer’s back, making him break out into a sweat as he worked continuously on the old tractor. It had seen better days, but now that the farmer was running for state senate, he had little money to spare for new machinery- not that he’d been exactly flush with cash before anyway.

“Son, would you mind giving me a hand with this?” Jonathan tugged on the cowling that covered the back part of the engine, but it wouldn’t budge.

“Sure, Dad.” With one heave the teenager pulled away the metal to reveal what Jonathan was trying to access. He smiled at his father’s amused expression, and then returned to the fence he was swiftly erecting. “Think we’ll get everything done ready for the Halloween party?” he asked, wondering what his girl friend would think of his outfit.

Jonathan mopped his brow with the edge of his shirt and shrugged his shoulders. Life had gone into overdrive lately, and he truly didn’t know if the family would be ready for what life was about to throw at them, let alone the town Halloween party. He answered positively in any case. “I’m sure we will, Son, and I’m sure Lana will love your outfit.” He winked, delving his already grimy hands into the tractor’s oil covered engine compartment.

Clark nodded, but instead of asking his next question paused. The nearest road was half a mile away, and yet he could hear every sound as if the muddied track was right in front of him.

Jonathan spotted his son’s distant gaze and frowned. “Something wrong, Clark?”

Clark wasn’t sure, but he could hear the heavy drone of a bored out engine, followed by the distinct squealing of tyres as if the vehicle had skidded out of control. After a moment, the engine continued to idle, but Clark was certain the car had come to an abrupt standstill. He also was sure he’d heard the sound of crushing metal, and shattering glass.

“Dad, I have to go check on something.”

Before Jonathan Kent could even nod, his son had vanished from view like a wraith returning to the netherworlds.

Clark reached the roadway in less than twenty seconds. Recent rainfall had made the normally dry track somewhat sludgy, and he feared a vehicle may not have been ready for the slippery conditions- it appeared he was correct.

Just a short distance from where he was standing, a raven-black classic was sitting in the hedgerow, its rear end pointing skyward as its hood nestled in a ditch. The rear wheels spun ceaselessly as if the driver still had his foot on the gas pedal.

Clark scanned the Chevy quickly, assessing just how many people were inside, and how badly they were hurt. From a swift blast of x-ray mode he ascertained there was only one person in the car- the driver, and he was barely conscious.

“Sammy?” As Clark dashed in a blur to the left side of the Impala he heard a muffled cry from within. It repeated several times until the voice was barely a croak. “Sammy…”

“It’s okay. I’m going to get you out. Just try to stay still…” Clark scanned the Chevy again and noted how crushed the driver’s door was. It had clearly taken quite an impact and was crushed into the frame of the car. It wasn’t going to open without a show of his strength. But the guy in there is in no condition to realize that…

Grabbing the age-old metal with just one hand, the teenager tore back the Chevy’s door and peered within.

Instantly, he couldn’t help but back away. He’d come here to help those in need, but could he now continue? He blinked, unsure of what his own eyes were telling him.

The man inside the Impala had slumped over the steering wheel and his foot had finally slipped from the accelerator, but it wasn’t his unconscious state that bothered Clark. It was his face.

Clark felt a lump form in his throat as he watched the driver’s chest rise and fall laboriously. He knew he needed to help this person no matter what, but deep inside his mind screamed that this must be a dream. The man he now looked upon had died, hadn’t he?

Worse still, he was staring at the features of the man who had tried to kill his parents…

Not to worry, Knight, Dawn is used to chickens. She spends a lot of time talking to me. :hiwave: I'm sure she'll be gentle.

Great start and fantastic cliffhanger, Dawn! :coolyo:

Thanks everyone. I've been finding writing tough, so I'm glad I'm not boring ya'll ;)

“Jason…” The words barely escaped Clark’s mouth. His heart began to thump in his chest, even though he was rarely affected by such human fragilities as fear. For a moment he could only stand and gape. Then, his sense of morality kicked in.

If this truly was Jason Teague, he needed help. All other questions, police charges or accusations could wait. For now, he was just a guy who had crashed his car, and desperately needed to be pulled free of the wreckage for fear it might explode.

Clark scanned the gas tank as the thought hit his mind. Fortunately, the tank hadn’t been damaged. In real life it was unusual for a car to blow up extravagantly like they did on TV, but he rarely took chances with someone else’s life- even if he was a killer.

“Come on, buddy, let’s get you out.” Clark gently took the bloodied driver in his arms and didn’t expect him to struggle. He was wrong.

“Sammy, I have to find Sammy…he was here, something took him…”

Clark scowled. He didn’t know any Sammy, and he’d never heard Jason mention the name during his time in Smallville. Still, that didn’t mean anything. Just to be sure, he checked the surrounding bushes and the ditch the car lay in, but there was no one else present. “I have to get you to the hospital. If you had a passenger the police will search for them later. There’s no one else here now.”

The man in his arms wavered, his voice becoming nothing more than a whisper. “I’m not going to any hospital without my brother…now put me down!” With that, he passed out.

Dean Winchester felt like he’d been put through a meat grinder. His head ached, and every sinew in his body throbbed as if he’d been in some medieval torture chamber for at least a month.

He groaned, attempting to roll on his side until he remembered his injured shoulder. The intense stab of pain from it made him decide to stay right where he was. As he winced and his mind began to focus, he realized there were other voices in the room.

“How on earth did he live through that meteor shower? And why is he back in Smallville?” The timbre of the speaker left nothing to the imagination. He was angry, and for some reason Dean got the impression the anger was focused on him. The voice continued, “Clark, why on earth did you bring him back here instead of calling the police? You brought a cold-hearted killer into our home. Didn’t we see enough of him last time he attacked your mother and I?”

Dean had heard enough. He’d never even been to Smallville before, let alone attacked these people. “I’ve never killed or attacked anyone,” he opened his eyes and smirked a little. “Unless you belong to the Munsters or the Addams Family that is…”

Jonathan and Martha Kent both turned to look at their visitor. Clark stood over him, arms folded in his usual protective stance.

Dean couldn’t help but find it amusing. “Big guy, what are you trying to do, scare me to death with the glare from your plaid?”

Clark ignored the quip, unsure how to respond. Jonathan was less abashed. “Why have you come back here, Jason? We thought you were dead.” The farmer held his wife close, as if he thought Dean might try something daring or stupid.

“Whoa, firstly, my name isn’t Jason, it’s Dean, Dean Winchester…” Damn, I must be slipping to give them my real name so easily. Dean squinted through the dried blood in his left eye and looked at his hosts more carefully. The tall teen was instantly recognizable from the files Sam had shown him. Somehow, he’d landed right up in the home of the person he and Sam had been going to check out on their latest gig.

“A face doesn’t lie!” Clark leaned close, and Dean saw a flash of frustration in his eyes for just the briefest of moments.

Yeah, well I could argue on that one. Dean didn’t voice his thoughts. He didn’t need to prove himself to these people. Heck, the kid standing in front of him had miraculously arisen from the grave a couple of months back. If anything, he was the one who should be answering questions. Still, Dean wasn’t going to reveal why he was here, not just yet. First, he had to find Sammy. “We could argue all day who I look like, but I don’t have time. Sam’s not here, is he?”

The brother’s eyes flashed with real anxiety, and for the first time Clark actually realized he might not be looking at Jason Teague after all. Never had he once seen such affection tinged with worry in the football coach’s eyes. “Who’s Sammy?” He asked, genuinely concerned as he recalled how the injured man had called for ‘Sammy’ when he’d been pulled from the wreckage of his car.

“He’s my brother…and he’s missing.” Dean pushed up on his elbows from the Kent couch and quickly pulled himself into a sitting position. As soon as he did so, the room began to spin.

“You should lay back down!” It was Martha. She was beginning to believe the young man’s story, and she didn’t like the look of him one bit. “You took quite a bump in the accident.”

Dean ignored the advice. He couldn’t just lie in some strange farm while his brother was missing. Something had made the car crash and had taken Sam. He had to get out on the highway and find out what before it was too late. “My brother comes first…” He tried to stand, and even managed to get halfway across the room before his legs buckled.

Clark grabbed him beneath his arms and carefully placed him back on the couch. He cocked his head, trying to lighten the moment. “I guess you should always do what your mom says.”

Dean squirmed as his shoulder seemed to explode in white hot fire. “Yeah, well I would if I had one.” He hadn’t meant to sound scathing, but right now his sarcasm was what was keeping him going. “Got any brothers or sisters, farmboy?”

Clark shook his head. He might have had a sibling by now, but he had ruined any chance of that by one mistake he could never change.

Dean noted the odd look on Clark’s face. “If you had, you’d know I can’t sit around here and wait while my brother could be in trouble.”

Martha looked to her husband and then sat on the edge of the couch to take a better look at their guest. It was obvious Jonathan wasn’t happy. He still wasn’t sure if Dean was Dean, or Jason. “Sweetheart,” he began to ask his wife to come away, but instead, when she asked him to grab some hot water and towels he gave in. Martha would always be the same, caring trusting person, and he had to accept that and be the skeptic for her.

Jonathan headed of to the kitchen as he’d been asked; knowing if there was any trouble Clark could handle it.

“If you’re really who you say you are, why are you in Smallville?” Clark stood over Dean as his mother looked their guest over.

“Just passing through. Me and my brother were doing a road trip across the state together.” Dean wasn’t exactly lying. He was just omitting the part that they’d come to Smallville to check out a kid who apparently could die from a bullet wound, and be up and about again minutes later.

He winced as Martha pulled away his dark blue jacket to reveal his heavily bleeding shoulder. Martha teased away the soiled dressing to look at the wound below. Some of the sutures had pulled through with the impact of his shoulder on the Impala’s steering wheel, but it was still obvious he hadn’t sustained the injury during the accident.

“Accident at work.” Dean didn’t even have to think to spin the lie.

Not that it was fooling anyone- especially Clark. “Kinda accident prone, aren’t you?” The teen already knew he wasn’t talking to his old foe Jason Teague, but there was still something ‘off’ about their guest. “Why don’t we just call Sheriff Adams about your brother?”

Dean squirmed. “The police take too long. They’ll want to fill out accident reports, missing persons reports…by then something could have happened to Sammy.” A distant look appeared in his eyes. “Something took him…”

“Don’t you mean someone?” Martha asked as she took a bowl of hot water and towels from her husband.

Dean shook his head. “Something flashed in front of my car so fast all I could see was a blur. Nothing corporeal I know of can move like that.” He looked up, realizing how crazy it sounded. These were farmers, they wouldn’t believe in ghosts and legends, would they? What about their son’s miraculous resurrection? For a split second, Dean considered the fact that maybe Clark had taken Sam. How better to stop us investigating him? He shrugged the idea off. No way could Clark know they were even coming to Smallville, which meant this was something else. “I’ve heard about this town’s reputation for weird things,” he finally added, trying to make his last sentence sound rational.

Martha glanced to Jonathan and back to her son. What Dean described sounded an awful lot like Clark using his superspeed, but no one else could move like that, could they?

“So you think some kind of meteor freak attacked you?” Clark shook his head. “Why would they single you out?”

Dean didn’t know, and he didn’t care. Meteor freak, ghost, or some other evil creature, all he knew was that it had taken Sam, and he wasn’t letting that go without a fight. “I have no freaking clue, but I do know they’re going to wish they hadn’t messed with a Winchester!” He didn’t want to talk anymore. He just needed to get to the Impala for his tools of the trade.

Gently pushing Martha away as she tried to clean him up, Dean attempted to make it the Kents screen door. Despite the state he was in, he made it halfway down the porch steps before he collapsed again. This time, he was so tired he didn’t even see Clark superspeed to catch him before he could crack his head on the bottom step.

Cradling Dean carefully in his arms as if he was as breakable as bone china, Clark re entered the house and laid his burden back on the couch.

“Do you really believe all that?” It was Jonathan, and he couldn’t take his eyes from Dean. “How can he not be Jason Teague? Just look at him!” The farmer wrapped an arm around his wife. “I think now would be a good time to call the police. They’ll know for sure if Dean Winchester exists.”

Clark shook his head. “Dad, I already know he isn’t Jason.”

Jonathan raised a brow as his son explained.

“Jason had to drop out of football and turn to coaching because he damaged his rotator cuff. I checked this guy out with my x-ray vision for any scar tissue, and I don’t see anything except the injury to his shoulder and a few cuts and bruises.” Clark omitted the fact that he also knew the shoulder wound was not work related. From what he could tell it was from the clean slice of a knife.

Martha looked troubled. “So what do we do now? Honey, maybe we should still call the police?”

Clark shook his head again. “I think I’m going to call Chloe over here first. Maybe she can dig something up on this guy and his brother. I’m kinda worried about what he saw on the road…”

Neither parent answered their son. They simply looked to one another and then back to Clark. Dean had described Clark super-speeding, and yet he hadn’t been anywhere near the Impala at the time of the accident. That either meant Smallville had a new spook in town, or maybe another Kryptonian. Clark had to wish for the former, despite what it might mean...

I'm loving it! :D I wish TPTB of the two shows would come up with something like this.

(But I'm afraid it would be slumming for the "Supernatural" writers to have to work with the "Smallville" writers! :run: )

:toofunny: You may be right!

Btw, just so I don't confuse people, Dean's bad shoulder was a result of a fight in the fic 'The Ride.' It's not part of this story except it got him where I wanted him for awhile. Plus it makes good continuity ;)

Guys, I know I promised an update today, and I'll still try. However, some really rotten, mean, nasty person has hacked into my Supernatural site and scrapped all I've worked for :( Obviously, I'm working furiously to get something back up. If I get time, I'll still write a little later this evening! Don't worry, I haven't got writer's block, just hacker's temper :wall:
