i had to write this when i saw reckoning, but i only just got around to posting it. hope you like. He was gone. Her soulmate, the one that she was supposed to spend forever and a day with, had left. The only reason she was still living is because of her son. She needed to stay strong for him, he could never know that she cried herself to sleep every night, that she was only just holding on. No, he could never know. But it wasn't the pain or the emptiness that was slowly killing her. It was the loneliness. As soon as she had met him she had gotten used to knowing that she wasn't alone. That she didn't have to face the world without him. And now she did. Yes, that was worse than any mere pain or emptiness. It may have been selfish of her, but she couldn't help her feelings. She missed him and that fact wasn't going to change anytime soon. It felt like it was tearing her apart, starting with the heart. She found it ironic that his heart was his best quality, but it was what ended up killing him. She couldn't join him, not yet, but she didn't think that she could last much longer without him. Not unless God took pity on her and let her join him. She felt like crawling under her sheets and just lying there until she died too, like screaming at the world and blaming them for her husband's death, finding someone, anyone, to pin her pain on. But she knew, deep down in her heart, that there was no-one that she could blame, no-one that she could hold accountable for the loss of not only her husband, but also her soul. She felt like her spirit had been ripped from her body forcibly, and she woke up every morning thinking that it was going to be a good day when the realisation hit that he wasn't going to be there to share it with her she felt like ending the pain called life and forever end the suffering. She relished the thought, until her mourning was broken by a small voice. ''Mom?“ When she heard the pain that that voice held she invited her son to come over to her. He walked over to her, and without saying a word gripped her in a tight embrace. She, as a mother, could feel the underlying meaning to that hug and she knew that the boy, no man, before her could not survive losing another parent so soon. Not in the physical sense though. She knew that he would rather her die than have her lose her will to live, so she had to decide whether she wanted to go on, or if she should just let go. Before she even thought about it she knew the answer. No-one was going to take Martha Kent. |
