I know what you mean clarksgirl first they rip off Flatliner, and now Saw. I'm surprised James Wan & Leigh Whannell, haven't sued Smallville yet. A masked Psycho, twisted life or death games, video footage of the villian. I'm surprised the writers didn't have him say "Game Over" after he pushed the switch, when Lionel and Martha were trapped.

But at least Clark faced down Lionel in the end.And what was up with Lionel's head hurting at the end ?.

I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but Lionel's attitude made me happy tonight. Him wanting to give his life for Martha was sweet. The only things I didn't like was Lionel hurting Lex like that. No one deserves that kind of abuse, especially from his father and Lionel calling Clark "Son." I was happy when Clark told him not to call him that and his father was Jonathan Kent. I felt like saying that to him too. The episode also gets a good grade because of one scene with Lana! I was so glad when she only appeared once. Like Mano's banner said once too much Lana turns you to the darkside.

I'm not up on sci fi or horror movies, so this episode was not a repeat I might have seen elsewhere.

I thought this was a great episode. The does he/doesn't he know, then when the reveal comes-Awesome. Lionel admitting he was never the father Jonathan was. Lex hearing what a great boy Clark is,coming from his own father. Then Lionel telling Lex Clark is a son any father could be proud of. Clark's exchange with Lionel in the end "don't call me that" when Lionel calls him son, and Clark telling him to stay away from Martha.

I’m assuming that this was a rip off to some kind of horror film but since I never SAW :heehee: it I really liked this episode. It was different for the SV world & it was way cool seeing Lionel sweat w/ his twisted sense of righteousness. Lionel is so warped that it makes perfect sense to him. :evil3:
:bidea: But what a great twist it would have been if it turned out to be Lex under that mask. Now that would have been a radical move in writing, it would have put SV back on the map. Evil Lex would have emerged instead of a love sick Lana boy  …what a missed opportunity to Lex's evilness.

JG was great in this episode  , man was he terrific showing Lionel w/just enough sarcasm, contempt & a version of empathy, he so pulled it off well tonight  .
:P: There was one funny thing that got me laughing though...I’m so bad  , in the first scene when Lionel saw the extra crispy body... he screamed like a girl :rofl2: …I’m sooo sorry but that got my funny bone to tickle  .

Ok so now Lionel knows CK secret for sure…does that mean he’s gonna be a “dead man walking” cuz not to many peeps live after knowing CK secret. :scratchhead:

Chloe was really put on a way to high sleuth scale  …I mean really with the technology she was able to access she would be better off working for Homeland Security instead of journalism. Chloe there a few bad guys we need you to find. :kgun3:

Clark was written like a dingbat in this episode nothing but a muscle man with a few school boy threats. He relies to heavily on Chloe for all the answers. He doesn’t think, or strategize or heck he doesn’t even use common sense in a lot of the situations. I don’t like that at all. :shakehead: At this rate this future Supes is gonna need cue cards from a sidekick in order to save the world. :whatever:

Side note: I know red is a power color for women but they are over doing this color w/Martha very much like they did w/Lana & pink…oy…

Overall an “A-“ cuz it had me at the edge of my seat but it could have been so much better if Lex was the one playing the game…what a sweet twist that would have been. Please writers get Lex off this Lana Merry-go-Round & get him back up into a fast hard thrill ride. I want the badness now.

Gotta Love That Good Old Smallville Feeling <3
surprisingly I actually enjoyed this one

ok maybe it was very much like Saw, but hey I've never seen either of the Saw's so it didnt bother me

It was nice to see an episode more on the lex/lionel side than the lana/sex/romance angle.

I thought it had a great ending, and when Lex asked Lionel what he meant in the video when he said "Clark is a special boy" and Lionel told him that he meant Clark is a boy that a parent could be pround of, I felt so bad for Lex

overall i really really liked it :)

oh yeah and i had to edit this  ...what was with Lionel at the end?! He had to write something down I guess..

I really liked this episode. It was a lot better than Hypnotic and most of Void (I liked the Jonathan scene a lot). That ending with Clark standing up to Lionel like that. It was finally good to know how long LIonel has known. It was kind of sweet how he was going to take his own life and save Martha even though its because of the sick game they were playing. I wonder what was happening with Lionel at the end. Maybe he was having a heart attack or something or thought he was dying and needed to write a last word or something for a future episode...

No I believe if Lionel was having a heart-attack.That he would be clutching his chest. But the whole time he was holding his head, like he was having a headache. Then he started writing something down on paper. I think it was Jor-El inside Lionel telling him something.

**sigh**

Once again, the writers show that they can't come up with an original idea to save their lives.

Save.... their.... lives.....

Hmmm..... maybe we should design a "game" for the Smallville writers....

Anyhow, yeah, if you've never seen Saw, then this would be a good, suspenseful episode. But, as someone who as seen both movies, I was disappointed. Even if I hadn't seen the movies, I would still have been disappointed a bit because of the lack of originality. There are so many other things the writers could be doing to keep our interest besides ripping off a popular suspense movie series. Especially with Brainiac on the loose. What, are they going to cram all the Brainiac intrigue into the Finale? I could easily see a 5-story arc ending with the Season 6 Premier.

And I love Chloe's character to death. She is fun, witty, smart and cute. But she has some serious technobabble going on. And it's starting to get a little predictable.

Curse you, Al and Miles, for giving us 3 good seasons and then letting us languish while we hold on to hope that the stories and writing will get better.

:wall:

OK. The good stuff. Obviously, the Clark/Lion-El confrontation was awesome. I actually find myself believing Lion-El in his sincerity. Then I light my lighter and hold it under my arm until I come to my senses. :D But really, you don't know which way to go with it. And that makes it good. They could have done a whole episode of the CK/Lion-El business.

And now, Lex overheard something....almost. Not everything was revealed on the video, but enough to spark Lex's suspicions again. That is kind of cool.

And, there is still mention of Jonathan's death. Kudos for that. Not many people that Clark cared about that have died have earned even one more mention after the fact (Ryan or Alicia, anyone??)

So, there were a couple of good points, only at the end, so this episode only gets about a 1.5 or MAYBE a hard 2 from me.

Well, I've seen SAW and I still loved it. It was fast paced, delightfully twisted, and how can you not appreciate Lionel being tortured. Sure it wasn't original, but it was entertaining.

Personally, I think Lionel set the whole thing up to accomplish 3 things...
1. Demonstrate to Martha that he'll "sacrifice" himself for her.
2. Force Clark to use his powers in front of Lionel so he cannot deny it.
3. Taunt Lex that he knows Clark's secret and Lex doesn't.

I could be wrong, but it fits his character to play on the emotional vulnerability of others to accomplish his desires. I can't wait to see how Mr. Nasty Pants uses "the secret" to control the Kents. I think his days are numbered.

I don't like how Chloe is used as wonder-girl with a magic computer, but it served it's purpose for the story and didn't detract from the storyline. I hardly remembered Lana was in the episode which was a good thing and probably why it felt like the hour flew by. Nice job, good acting, twisted game. It held my attention and made me want to watch it again and there hasn't been an episode like that since Transference for me.

Hmm... I have a theory as to why Lionel seemed to be having head pains...

Just a warning: the theory seemed to make sense at the time...

Has it occured to anyone that maybe it wasn't Lionel that was speaking to Clark? What if it was Jor-El? I mean, think about: do you really think that Lionel would be as understanding as he was during the episode? The Lionel I know would have Clark tied up and under green kryptonite halogen lights faster then our lil Supes could blink...

No, I believe that it was Jor-El that surfaced during parts of the episode, especially at the end between Lionel/Jor-El and Clark...

Now, as for the head hurting... Once Clark left, Jor-El gave up possesion of Lionel for the time being, which must have hurt, as pointed out from Lionel's reaction...

The pad and paper? Lionel must not know what happens when he is Jor-El, or at least he loses his meory of the possession rapidly, which is why he was scrambling to write down the events which just happened, as a back up for when he is possessed... Or when he loses his memory of the event, as he will. Later on he will be able to look upon the paper and understand the forgotten events...

May seem far fetched, but it is the theory that I have high hopes for... I think it'd be an interesting storyline/arch, don't ya think?

Did anyone also think that the bad guy in this reminded you of General Grievous in "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith?" It just seems as if they ripped that character off for this episode.

This is becoming Stupidville, I mean I liked the episode but what happened to Clark's brains?

Someone's gotta tell me what kinda computer Chloe has because thats the main reason Clark is saving lives...Batman doesn't even have a computer like that either!!!!

I mean Clark is seriously in need of brain power. He's becoming what all models are....airheads. The writer's are talking this too far and he's destined to become Stupidman. Im not sure what is going to happen when Chloe is not in Smallville anymore, Clark is going to be screwed big time and he's going to have to x-ray vision the whole world when he needs to find something.

About Lionel's headaches too....I noticed he also took pills (in the limo) just like Jonathan Kent did. Maybe he's going to die too because his body can't take it and Jor-El is doing some wacky stuff to him.

We will all find out what kinda games people are playing and who's playing who, hence the chess game Lex is playing.

Whens the season finale? :slogo: :slogo: :slogo:

Yes the same thoughts crossed my mind as well Snarky!
But if Lionel could pull off acting like that, maybe he should have become an actor rather than a corporate conqueror.

I really enjoyed this episode as well (-albeit it's apparent unoriginality) but it was a good opportunity to see Lionel in a different light and a break from the same old meteor freak fillers.

Maybe when the BDA develops his magical kiss of forgetfulness, he could give Lionel a nice big one and make him forget his powers...

:yuck:!!!
I would seriously have to bonk :bonk: the writers on the head if they wrote that and then launch into a tirade  about how they've decimated my favorite superhero....after which I'd probably just laugh at the stupidity of the whole thing because that's about what I've come to expect from Smallville. :/

Flying, Superbreath, and Kiss of Forgetfulness...I wonder if they're going to work those into the rest of this season.
