Where Are You Christmas

Chapter 1

Coming Home

Disclaimer: I don’t own Smallville, Superman, Superboy or anything else to do with the show, comics, Superman mythos or movies. This is a fanfiction nothing more.

It had been ten years since she last visited this place. Ten years! Quite a bit can happen in that amount of time. The flight from the West Coast was long and tiring and it provided Lana with ample time to reflect on the past. Ten years ago she had left Smallville for good. Clark was becoming more and more concerned about the changes he was seeing in her. This bothered him so much that he eventually left her and Smallville. Lana moved from the farm into the town of Smallville, where she opened a fashion shop. It was there that she began designing clothing and eventually was hired by a famous designer, who put her through school and helped her get a start in the hectic world of fashion designing, on a world wide scale. The LL label was now very well known. Women young and old loved her designs.

Lana was coming home, to celebrate Christmas with her Aunt Nell. This was something she had mixed feelings about. On one hand she was going to enjoy seeing the places she once frequented and also get to see old friends; but on the other hand she dreaded going back, realizing that she probably would not see the love of her life. He had moved on and lived in Metropolis. He was now a famous reporter and secretly the world’s most powerful Superhero.

Lana had changed over the years. She realized that she had to let go of her hatred of Lex and move on. She remembered one of her last conversations with Clark.
“Clark, why are you looking at me like that?”
“I am only trying to find something I recognize. Lana, you have changed. The Lana I knew and loved, would not think or act the way you have been. All these lies and secrecy, I just don’t understand it. Ever since you came back from China, after faking your own death; you have become a different person. It’s my own fault, had I not pushed you away, you would not have married Lex. We would have eventually married and you wouldn’t be this person that I don’t even recognize.”
“Clark”, Lana replied, “I really am not any different. I wish you wouldn’t look at me that way. I am who I am. I am a product of my own decisions. What I am doing is justified. Look at what he and his father have done to me and to so many others. I have a right, no a duty, to see that they pay for what they have done. I am making sure that they don’t hurt anyone else. Now, let’s see if we can make more seismic activity happen in Smallville.”
“Lana, I can’t! You‘re not the woman I fell in love with. You have changed and it’s my fault entirely. I will never be able to live with myself, because of what I’ve done.
Lana, I will love you forever, but I just can’t live with what you have become. I can’t accept what
I have caused you to become.”

Lana remembered answering, “Get over it Clark, this who I am. Love me or leave me.”
She will never forget the look of pain she saw on his face. The look that she saw in his eyes that night was forever burned into her memory! It was a look of hurt, defeat and betrayal all at once. A look she had seen only once before in Clark. It was the day she married Lex. After the wedding she told Clark that she didn’t love him, but she loved Lex instead and wanted to be with him. How was he to know that she was trying to save his life?
The second time she had seen it was the last time she saw him. He looked at her, kissed and hugged her one last time and whispered, “I will love you for the rest of my life. I only hope that I can forgive myself for what I have caused you to become. You can live here on the farm for as long as you want. Goodbye, my love.”
Then she heard a whoosh and he was gone. She waited on the farm for the next two weeks hoping he would come back, but he never did. No one ever heard from him again, except for Ben Hubbard. Clark did stop there to arrange for him to watch over and care for the farm.”

Now ten years later, she was on her way back home. She came only at the insistence of her Aunt who wanted the chance to see her and to meet her nephew. A child she had never seen. He was born a few months after she left Smallville. He was a handsome boy, who was born a few months after Lana left town. She never did tell anyone who the father was, but from the pictures she sent to her aunt, earlier this year when she re-established contact, there was only one man who could possibly have fathered this lad.
Then she heard a voice. “Mommy, can I have another glass of milk.”

Lana smiled as she pushed the call light button. Immediately, a stewardess came down the aisle.
“May I help you?” the young lady asked Lana.
“Tell her what you want, Clark.” Only one person drank more milk than her son and that individual was his father.

That’s all for now. Let me know what you think. I know it’s short, but before I do more I want to see what kind of reception it gets.

It's an interesting start to the story. Although I don't want Lana and Clark getting back together again. I'm so tired of their constant angst!!

If the little boy is Clark's that must mean that Lana was cheating on Lex by having another affair with Clark just before she got married which rather makes a nonsense of their conversation on her wedding day.

Also, I thought that Nell had married and moved to Metropolis. So why is Lana going to Smallville when Nell lives in Metropolis. :well:

I'm curious where this story is going!

Good start on your new story. Its always interesting reading new fanfics from new authors. If your going to hook Lana up with Clark again, let it be for good! Or set her up with Pete Ross or Jimmy Olsen! :)

B) Thanks Carrie! Wow, I have have taken so much heat from this fic at all the web sites and to think, I have only written one chapter.

It is Clark's child and no Lana wan't cheating on Lex. Remember this season, Lana was given Clark's powers and they caused seisemic disturbances all over Smallville. That is when they produced young Clark. Also, these are fan fictions and in my universe, seven years after Nell left smallville she and Dean returned to the quite of the smaller town.

I know the mythos...I have been reading the comics for over 30 years. In my story it was time, all the things about Kandor, even the Telephatic Hounds are all true. I try to show, young people, things about Superman they will never know.
for instance Zor-El was not evil as the show portrayed him to be and he was not after Lara. The show is perventing the mythos to make itself spectacular. But in doing that they pervert the characters. another example...Lana never slept with Lex Luthor, never became engaged to him, Martha never went out with Lionel Luthor....on and on and on.

The reason they can get away with it is because young people do not know the mythos.

Zor-El was a very prominent person of very high regard andon the counsel in Kandor.

Where Are You Christmas
Chapter 2
Home Again

As the plane was coming to a stop at Metropolis Airport, Lana was getting young Clark ready to de-plane. “Where are we going again mommy,” he asked? With a smile on her face she gave a hug to her young son, who had asked that question for the thirtieth time.”

“We are going to see Aunt Nell and you can see where, I grew up. Now get your stuff and come with me, son. Let’s not keep Aunt Nell waiting too long.”
Hurrying to gather all his belongings together, Clark, responded, “I’m ready mommy. I can’t wait to see Aunt Nell; do we have any other relatives here?”
Yes, my son, you do have other relatives living in this area and maybe, just maybe, we will get a chance to see them. But we will only be in Smallville a short time and Christmas is such a busy time. So I can’t make any promises. Now let’s go meet, Aunt Nell.” Then she smiled at her bright young son, but deep down inside she was worried. I do hope that I get the chance to see Clark. I really want to have the opportunity, to tell him, that I still am madly in love with him. I would also like the chance to tell him about and introduce him to his son. That is, if he will listen to me. We didn’t part on the best terms. I also want him to know that I have matured and have long ago, let go of those feelings for the Luthor’s. Yes, I have beaten the demons of my past and I want him to know that, even if there isn’t a chance of us reconciling.

Lana led her nine year old son off the plane and through the airport out past the security gates it was then that she spotted Nell and Dean waiting for them. The older woman gave her a kiss on the cheek and then held her in a long hug.” Oh, I have missed you she told Lana! You haven’t changed at all you are still the most beautiful woman in or out of Smallville. Then she drew back and looked directly into Lana’s eyes and said, no matter what happens between you and Mr. Kent, you have to visit us more often, do you hear me?”
“I will,” she said giving her aunt a smile.
Turning to dean she gave him a huge hug and asked, “How have you been Dean? It’s been a long time, hasn’t it?”
“I am fine Lana and Nell is right, no matter what happens or doesn’t happen with Mr. Kent, you need to visit us from time to time. Remember, we love you and you are our only family. Now who is this handsome young man with you?”
Nell had already drawn the boy to her and was hugging him saying, “Clark, you are such a handsome young man. It is nice finally getting to meet you. I must say that your pictures don’t do you justice. You are so good-looking. Don’t you agree Dean?”
“Yes,” he answered Nell waiting for a turn to hug the young lad. Clark, he said finally getting a chance to hug the boy. “You are going to love it here in Smallville its small and it quiet. Lots of area to explore and see, there is even a windmill nearby. If all goes well we might get a chance to take you there.”

“A windmill,” the boy replied, “I would love to see that. Will you take me there?”
The next stop was the luggage area and as they were gathering the luggage. Lana saw a crowd of reporters and cameramen surrounding someone two carousel’s away. As she watched, out of the corner of her eye, she could see that it was an older woman with red hair. Lana smiled as she realized that it was Martha. As she listened, Lana heard one of the reporters ask, “Senator Kent what do you think of the latest bit of legislation being brought up on capitol hill regarding …” He never got the chance to finish. Senator Kent stopped him saying, “Gentlemen, I am taking this Christmas time to get away from politics. Please forgive me for not answering your questions and Merry Christmas.”
With that having been said, the senator turned to gather her luggage.
Lana wanted to rush over and give Martha a hug. How could she ever forget the love, care and concern that Mrs. Kent had always shown her. She remembers that Martha used to refer to her as the daughter she never had. Lana felt free to share everything that troubled her with Martha. She was the mother she never had. She loved Martha, almost as much as she loved Clark. But, that was a long time ago, Lana realized that she couldn’t share anything with her now. It hurt too much, knowing Martha’s son, Clark, left her, to go who knows where.
Turning around so the Senator wouldn’t see her, Lana took Clark’s hand and walked with Nell and Dean to where their car was parked. Clark was all questions. He asked one after another. Lana smiled and patiently answered each one.
Martha gathered her luggage quickly and left the airport. She was in a hurry to get to the farm. It was her fortress of solitude. No reporters, no cameramen. Just the place where a tired Senator could kick off her shoes and sit back and relax. As she went her way too her car, something bothered her. There was a woman in the airport, she had only caught a glimpse of her, but that individual reminded her of someone she loved dearly. Someone she missed with all of her heart, Lana. Martha didn’t get a good look at the young woman, everything that was in her told her that it was Lana. If it was, she wanted to have, to sit down with her, so that they could talk. Martha never forgave Clark for leaving her the way he did. Clark never discussed that reason with his mother, even after returning from his training. Well, Martha thought,if Lana is back, I hope she comes over to visit. I really miss her. She was the daughter I never had. I want to hear everything about her life since leaving the area. Her fashion designing career is doing well.

The drive back to her aunt’s place caused Lana to have mixed feelings. On one hand, seeing the old places brought her both happy and sad feeling’s to her. She loved seeing the Talon and the high school, but didn’t care for passing a Luthorcorp building or anything else that reminded her of Lex. As they drove up to the house and they got out to take in the luggage. Clark said, mommy, look horses, pointing over to the Kent farm. “Do you think the people that live there will let us pet them and maybe ride them?”
“You never know son, anything is possible.”
They went into the house and Nell told Lana that her room was where they were going to be sleeping. She took Clark by the hand and went upstairs. Dean took up their luggage. Lana stood at the door of her room looking inside. Memory after memory came back to her. It had been more than ten years since she looked into this room, but it seemed like it was only yesterday. Feeling a little lightheaded she went inside the room and sat down. Clark was busy looking at everything that was in the room. He asked his mother more questions than usual as he saw everything. Lana did the best she could to answer all the questions. After looking around a while, he picked up a picture of her graduation class and asked her a question. That made her heart skip a few beats. Pointing to a tall handsome gentlemen, who was standing , with the crowd, he asked, mommy, is he my daddy? He kind of looks like me.”

Looking at the picture, she could see, the man of her dreams. He had that wonderful smile on his face and he looked so good. Tears came to her eyes. She couldn’t answer. She was full with so many emotions. That all she could do, was to put her head into her pillow, to hide her tears. She said, “I am sorry son, mommy can’t talk right now. We can talk about that later.”

Seeing this Dean asked Clark if he wanted to get some candy from a store in town. He wanted to give Lana a bit of time to adjust to being back in Smallville. Clark asked his mother if it was ok for him to go. She replied, “Yes.”

Taking him by the hand Dean took him out to the car and off they were going into town. The ride was really interesting for a very curious boy, who has never been on a farm or lived in farm country. He asked Dean nearly one hundred questions. Dean took the time to answer every one. Clark it seems for now had forgotten about trying to discover who his father was, at least for now.

More to come soon.

Where Are You Christmas
Chapter 3
Clark’s Request

As they were going into the store, Clark asked Dean, “Does it snow here Uncle?”
“Yes it does Clark and if the latest broadcast is correct, we will have snow Christmas Eve. Have you ever seen it snow before Clark?”
“Only on television, but I have never been in snow. It doesn’t ever snow where we live in California. I brought a camera with me, so I hope it happens, so I can get some pictures to show my friends. I really like it here Uncle Dean.”

“I am glad to hear that, the older man replied. Now what kind of candy do you like?”
“I like all types Clark replied, but I don’t get to have it often. Mommy doesn’t want me to get any cavities.”

“Your mom is right Clark, but this is a special occasion, so I don’t think she will mind. Do you like any of these?”
Clark grabbed a Hershey Bar and some Reese Cups. “Can I have both of these Uncle Dean?”
“Yes, you can Clark, but you can only eat one now the other one will have to wait until tomorrow. We don’t want you to eat too much chocolate. It might make you hyper.”

‘Don’t worry uncle, I won’t get hyper, I promise. What should we do next?”
“Well, why don’t we take a walk around town and see some of the Christmas decorations. Maybe we could stop and see Santa too.”

“Uncle Dean, some of my friends say that Santa isn’t real. That he is just a fairy tale, is that true?”
“Santa is no myth Clark. Your friends probably don’t believe in Santa because they didn’t get what they wanted for Christmas. There are many reasons why children don’t get the things that they want, but the biggest one is that they really do not believe in Santa anymore. When a person doesn’t believe, they prevent Santa from being able to grant their deepest wishes. Do you understand what I am getting at Clark? The key to getting what you want from Santa is to believe.”

“I’ve got it uncle. It’s important to believe. Now, shall we go for that walk around town?”

“You bet,” replied Dean. “Let’s go Clark.”

Two aisles over, a stately, red headed woman was standing in a checkout line. Looking over at the mention of the name Dean, she saw the boy and heard Dean call him by the name Clark. Unfortunately she wasn’t able to get a good look at the boy, but he reminded Martha of her Clark, when he was young. Martha considered a few possibilities: Nell was Lana’s Aunt, Dean was Nell’s husband, Lana and Clark had sexual relations after they reunited as a couple; could it possibly be that that young boy was…no, it wasn’t possible. It couldn’t be. Thinking back to when she was being badgered by reporters in the airport…wasn’t there a woman their, who reminded her of Lana? If that was the case, then Martha realized that she had just gotten a glimpse, of her grandson. Could it be true? Did she even dare to hope? Gathering her things together she rushed out of the store, eager to get a better look at the child, but they were gone. With a feeling of intense hope and joy filling her heart, she thought, I will have to pay Nell a visit and soon.

Meanwhile dean and Clark were going through town, looking at all the decorations. Smallville always went all out when it came to putting up Christmas decorations and as usual, everything was beautiful. They looked at the shops windows and Clark wanted everything. He saw puppies, train sets, telescopes, racing cars, spaceships and all kinds of things. Finally Dean took him into a department store to see Santa.

“Remember what I said about believing,” he reminded young Clark.
“I won’t forget,” replied the boy.”

Clark stood in line with the rest of the children, until his turn came. He was then ushered over to see Santa, by two Elves. They were smiling as they took him up to see Mr. Claus. Clark thought that one of the Elves call him by name, but that was impossible, no one here in this city knew his name except for Nell and Dean.
Santa looked at Clark and raised his hand to indicate that he wanted him to come and sit on his lap. When he did, Santa smiled and asked, “Clark, I know you want many things for Christmas. You would like a train set, a bicycle and a telescope, but what do you want most for Christmas, Clark? Down deep in your heart, what do you want the most, for Christmas this year?”
A tear formed and then fell from Clark’s eye as he turned to Santa and said, “I want to see my daddy, know who he is and see, him and my mom get married, so that we can be a family. Most of all, I want mommy to be happy and have a real smile again. She pretends to be happy and does smile from time to time, but I know she is never really happy. She cries at night in her room. I know its because she misses my daddy. Please Santa, please!”

With a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes, Santa said, “Granted, son, you belief in me will cause you Christmas wish to come true. Tell no one, what we have said to each other. Now you have a Merry Christmas and Clark, don’t ever stop hoping and believing.”
Then the Elves helped him off of Santa’s lap and walked him down to the exit gate. Before leaving Clark turned back to look at Santa. Santa waved goodbye to Clark, gave him a big smile and with a twinkle in his eye said, “Merry Christmas Clark, Merry Christmas.”

Dean smiled at Clark, took his hand and asked, “Clark, did you tell them your name?”
“No, I didn’t the boy replied, but Santa knows every child’s name. Doesn’t he?”

“Right you are nephew,” Dean said, “right you are.” Then Dean looked at his watch and said, “We should be getting home the women will be worried.”
It was right at that moment that his cell phone went off. Dean answered. It was Lana, she was wondering about how Clark was doing? He is fine Lana, we just got some candy, and window shopped a little, then, we saw Santa. We are on our way there now, see you soon.”

As Lana, put away her cell phone, Nell asked, “Are they okay?”

They are fine Aunt Nell, Dean and Clark seem to be getting along just fine.”

“Lana please call me Nell. Clark is such a wonderful child. It is amazing how much he resembles his father.”

“The resemblance isn’t limited to looks only, although he has never met his father, their personalities are exactly alike. They are both so caring and compassionate, but at the same time, incredibly stubborn. But I love them both!”
“Have you heard from Clark sr. at all Lana?”
Not since that day he left me on the farm. He surprised me Nell; I never thought he would just walk away from our love. But, I had changed completely from the Lana he had known. I lied, cheated, stole money and almost killed Lex and Lionel. I know Clark didn’t know what was happening to me. Lara, his biological mother saw it, that day we met. The day Clark asked me to stay with his mother. She saw how nervous I was and said to me to relax. She mentioned that I was nervous, because I was afraid that she would learn about the darkness that I was hiding inside of me. She encouraged me to fight it, to resist it. She warned me not to give in. you know Nell; the darkness may have won, had Clark not left me that day. His leaving shocked me and shook me back to reality. I walked away from the darkness, never to return, after he left, but it was too late. I waited around the farm for two weeks hoping he would return, but after that I knew that I had to get on with my life, especially when I realized that Clark jr. would be coming along soon.

Where Are You Christmas
I Want to Be Like Him
Chapter 4

Martha tried, but she couldn’t calm down. She was a grandmother and she had just seen her grandson. It was only a brief glimpse and she didn’t get to see his face, but every fiber of her being, told her that it was Clark jr. She had to see him. She had to get a better look at him and most of all like every grandmother, Martha needed to hold him in her arms, kiss him, and tell him that she loved him. The Senator was sure that that woman in the airport was Lana and if it was, then that boy was her grandson. Martha had to know for sure. She decided that she would visit Nell. Realizing that she just couldn’t just drop in, Martha tried to come up with an excuse for her upcoming visit. I’ve got it, she thought, I will bake a pie and present it as a Christmas gift. That should be a good enough reason to give for dropping in. I will do it tomorrow.
Meanwhile Dean and Clark after arriving at the house got out of the car and went inside. They had no way of knowing, that someone was observing them through a telescope. “I knew that this thing would come in handy someday,” Martha said. She had gotten a slightly better look at the child and was jumping for joy. He looked so much like her son, he just had to be her grandson. Martha, left the loft and went back inside to plan for and to get started baking the pie.
When Dean and Clark had gotten inside they found Lana and Nell watching the evening news. Dean and Clark were greeted by both women. Lana asked Clark if he had had a good time in downtown Smallville. Clark had the biggest grin on his face and he told his mom all the fun he had with his uncle. Lana was somewhat surprised to hear, from her son, that Santa knew his name, but quickly forgot about that when Clark reminded her that Santa knew everyone’s name.
All of a sudden, the news switched to a special report. Wolf Blitzer was reporting, he began, “A problem developed with The President’s plane earlier today. A lightning strike had destroyed one engine and took out part of one wing. The plane was going down and would have crashed, but suddenly, a man in a blue suit with a red cape and a big red ‘S”on his chest, appeared out of nowhere and took over for that missing engine. He flew the plane to safety and then took off again. Who is this mystery man and how did he get those amazing abilities?” He finished his special report and closed.
As she watched the report, Lana knew immediately who the mystery man was, Clark had resurfaced. Her heart initially, began to skip a few beats and then began to beat very fast. She began to shake and grew a little faint. There he was the man of her dreams, the love of her life. Nell saw what was happening to Lana and had Dean help her over to the couch. “Lie down Lana, I will get you something cool to drink, you are perspiring up a storm. Do you have hypoglycemia?”
Clark missed what was happening to his mother. He was too busy watching the man on the screen. He watched as he, flew to the plane and picked up the wing like it was as light as a feather. After he landed the plane, he turned and smiled at the camera and then took off into the air at a speed too fast for the cameras to follow. “Wow!” Clark shouted, “Did you see that!” He exclaimed! “That was amazing. Who do you think that was, he asked?”
Dean and Nell responded, that they didn’t know, but then, Dean said, “I guess, he is he is our latest Superhero. They seem to be popping up everywhere lately; Spiderman, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Iron Man, Thor, Dr.Strange, just to name a few. It seems like there is a superhero on every corner.”
Lana just laid there speechless. She couldn’t say anything, even if she wanted too.
With a huge smile on his face, Clark exclaimed, “Well whoever he is, I want to be just like him. He is so cool; he doesn’t even need a rocket pack to fly.”
Lana was starting to feel a little better. She looked over at her son and thought, You have no idea my son, just how much like him you are. Someday, I will tell you about your father, but not yet, it’s still too painful to think about now. But soon my son, very soon, I will tell you everything about your father.
Dean and Nell were a little bit worried about Lana. Nell asked, “Are you all right, my dear?”
“I am starting to feel a little better. I really don’t know what came over me.”
Nell asked if she felt like eating something, but she didn’t. “Clark“, Nell called, “Time to eat, come and get it.”
Clark like his dad was always hungry. Lana would always marvel at how much he resembled Clark sr. especially when eating. It would bring both joy to her heart and tears as she watched Clark’s, mini-me, do so many things just the way his father did. Yes, she would tell him about his father very soon. He deserved to know. One day, I will have to let his father know about his son. It isn’t fair, not to tell him about his child, whether we are together or not.

More coming soon!

Merry Christmas Everyone!!!! :D

Where Are You Christmas
Chapter 5
The Loft

“Okay Clark, it’s bedtime,” Lana announced. In Clark’s heart, this was a time that always came too soon. Lana took him upstairs, had him take a bath and brush his teeth. He then said his prayers and she read him a bedtime story. When the bedtime story was completed, she kissed him on the cheek and said, “Goodnight sweetheart. Tomorrow, we will try to do something special I promise. Do you like Smallville so far?”
“This place is really neat, I really like it. Mom, do you think the people on the farm next store will let me see their horses? I have never seen one up close.”
“I don’t really know son, but we can check into it?” She replied. “Good night, sweet dreams.”
Then Lana closed the door and went downstairs. Dean and Nell were watching, ‘Dancing with the Stars.’
Lana asked them if they would mind listening for Clark, in case he called out. She wanted to go for a walk along the road.
“Go ahead dear,” Nell called out. “We will keep an eye on Clark. Have a nice walk.”
Lana enjoyed walking down the road. She had done it often when she was a young girl in high school. Walking helped her to unwind and relax. It helped to relieve stress. Tonight she wasn’t stressed, but she wanted to walk anyway. As she did she recalled times when she and Clark Sr. were together. She longed to have him put his arms around her and gently kiss her lips. Then, they could go to the Loft and enjoy each other as they had so many times in the past. After that they could bask in the afterglow, look into each other’s eyes and tell each other that they couldn’t live without each other.
As she continued to walk, she lost track of time and direction and before she realized it, she was standing in, ‘The Loft’ as she had done so many times before. The moon was nearly full and the view from the loft was spectacular. It felt good to be here. The only one missing was Clark. But even though he wasn’t here, she felt so close to him. It seemed like it was only yesterday, they were here, making love and causing Seismic disturbances all over Smallville. The expression on Chloe’s face after she learned the cause of the disturbances was priceless. Just the memory of that look made Lana chuckle. The couch was still there and she sat down. After a bit, Lana became aware of tears running down her face as she thought Clark, where are you? Was I so evil that you couldn’t forgive me? I love you, I will always love you. You are the love of my life and I thought that I was the love of yours, but it looks like I was wrong, so very wrong. I have someone I would like you to meet. His name is Clark Jr. I could have gone all out and been creative in naming him, but I didn’t want creativity Clark, I wanted you. He is all that I have to remind me of you. You left me nothing else. Clark, he is so much like you, it’s like you are still with me, but in miniature form. Anyway, I am back in Smallville for a few days and I would love to see you, if you aren’t too busy.

Then she up and while she looked at the moon Lana asked, “Where are you Christmas? When I was younger, I believed that if you wanted something bad enough and were sincere enough, that Father Christmas would see that that wish was granted. Father Christmas, please hear me. Please grant my wish. Grant Clark Jr’s wish. He doesn’t say it, but I know he wants to meet his father. I can see it in his eyes and hear it in his voice and in the things that he doesn’t say. I can’t wait till he knows. I can’t wait to see the expression on his face when he finds out that his father is Superman. So please help me. Please bring Clark home, please." Then taking a deep breath, she asked again in the form of a song:

“Where are you Christmas
Why can't I find you
Why have you gone away
Where is the laughter
You used to bring me
Why can't I hear music play

My world is changing
I'm rearranging
Does that mean Christmas changes too

Where are you Christmas
Do you remember
The one you used to know
I'm not the same one
See what the time's done
Is that why you have let me go

Christmas is here
Everywhere, oh
Christmas is here
If you care, oh

If there is love in your heart and your mind
You will feel like Christmas all the time

I feel you Christmas
I know I've found you
You never fade away
The joy of Christmas
Stays here in silence
Fills each and every heart with love."

Where are you Christmas
Fills your heart with love.”

Then she took one more look around the loft and left. She walked slowly down the stairs, remembering times spent there with Clark. Then she walked across the field to her aunt’s. But before she went inside, she turned to look at The Kent’s barn and asked once more, “Where are you Christmas, why can’t I find you. Why have you gone away?” Then she turned and went inside. She managed to say goodnight to Dean and Nell and then went to bed, but not before kissing Clark Jr. goodnight.
Outside a light snow began to fall and a jolly old fellow climbed back into his sled. As he did, he replied, “Christmas will be here Lana don’t you worry and Father Christmas has heard your wish. Now get some sleep.

With that he and his team of reindeer were off and they cast a shadow on the moon as they went by. Lana’s tears stopped and she drifted off to sleep, a peaceful sleep, the way she slept when she was a young girl and she didn’t have the weight of the world on her shoulders.

More coming later today.

Where Are You Christmas
Chapter 6
A Date With A Pie or A Woman on A Mission

It is true, what they say about farmer’s wives, even those that become Senators. Martha Kent was up at the crack of dawn. It was a beautiful day in Smallville and Martha had plans. She was going to make the most of this day! She was a woman on a mission. This mission had to be carried out today. She could not let another day go by without knowing whether her suspicions were right or wrong. She fully intended to pay a visit to Nell this morning. There were too many coincidences, that she couldn’t ignore.

After a quick shower and make-up application, she was off in a flash to the kitchen. Not nearly as fast as her son Clark moved, but for the Senator, it was pretty fast. The situation called for a seasonal, holiday pie and Martha had already decided on the type. Although she hadn’t seen Nell for quite some time, she knew that Nell had a special love for mincemeat pie. A fast trip to Smallville’s only all night grocery store and Martha was ready to set her plan in motion.

Senator Kent had become an accomplished politician, her skills were second to none when it came to dealing with lobby groups, colleagues, constituents’ and everyone else on capitol hill. But, even though she possessed all of the skills needed to be a great Senator, Martha hadn’t forgotten how to bake a pie.
She prepared the filling which consisted of; Raisins, sultanas, apricots, glace cherries, candied citrus peel, apples, various types of nuts and mixed spices, especially nutmeg and cinnamon. She prepared the mixture smiling as she recalled that superstition mandated that the mixture had to be stirred in a clockwise direction. Stirring it counterclockwise would bring on bad luck and even though she was not a superstitious person, Martha wanted to take a chance of anything possibly going wrong.

She let the mixture set as she prepared the crust. Store bought crust just wouldn’t do for an occasion as important as this. Although tradition was that the pies should be made small, almost the size of a Hostess fruit pie. She made one large pie and placed a star on top, to represent, the one that led the Wise Men to Jesus.
After the pie had baked for the appropriate length of time, she took it out to let it cool.

The smell of the pie reminded her of the last time she baked one. Clark couldn’t keep his hands off or out of the pie. Even thought it was very hot, he keep sticking his fingers into it and then liking off the mincemeat filling. The hot pie mixture couldn’t hurt Clark, he was impervious to pain, but manners needed to be taught to the young boy and Martha broke 4 wooden spoons on his hands that day. Realizing that his persistence was causing his mother to become angry, he finally gave in and stopped being disobedient.

Martha laughed as she recalled that incident.

Jonathan had to sit down and have a man to man talk with Clark about listening to his mother. In the end, all turned out well and they all had not completely cooled mincemeat pie that day. She wondered if Clark Jr. was a stubborn as his father was at times.
As the pie cooled, Martha cleaned up and got ready to see Nell. After collecting the pie, she got in the car, looked in the mirror to see if she looked okay and drove over to Nell’s.

Nell was cooking a late breakfast for the group. Everyone slept in that day. Lana woke refreshed not remembering when, the last time was that, she slept so peacefully . She felt completely restored and in fact didn’t even want any coffee that day. Clark very seldom slept late, but on this particular morning had to be awakened by Lana.

Come on sleepyhead she said as she tickled him, time to get up we have so much to do today, let go little man. Lana took him off to the bathroom to wash up and get ready to meet the world. “You must be clean, you never know who you are going to run into from day to day,” she reminded Clark.

“I know mom,” Clark replied. I also always wear clean underwear, without any holes, just in case I get into an accident.” This he said with a huge grin on his face.

Lana replied, “Young man, don’t you make fun of your mother. Those are important things that you need to remember.” She tried to keep a straight face as she said this, but the look on Clark’s face and the way he said it caused her to break down in unrestrained laughter. She smiled at little Clark and drew him into a tender hug. I love you Clark and no matter what happens today or any day, I want you to never forget it.”

“I will never forget that mommy and I love you too.”

Meanwhile, downstairs, Nell heard the car drive up and went to the door to see who it might be. A smile came to her face when she caught a glimpse of her old friend. She thoughtMartha has come home for Christmas. Well her timing couldn’t be more perfect.
Opening the door, Nell went out to give her old friend a hug. Although they had in the past had their differences because of Jonathan and the way he had treated Nell, many years before. They had become quite close after his death.
“Martha,” Nell said, with a smile on her face. She gave Martha a gentle hug, being careful not to knock the pie out of her hands. “I am so glad to see you today. Your timing is superb. Come on in, I have someone here I want you to see.” She opened the door and Martha went inside. “Wait here,” Nell said. I will be right down. Going upstairs as quickly as she could, she told Lana that an old friend was here and wanted to see her.
Lana replied, “I will be right there Nell as soon as we finished getting our teeth brushed and hair combed.”
Nell came back down the stairs with a smile on her face. “I have a surprise for you Martha, was all that she would say.”
Clark, Lana said, I want you to get all your dirty clothes and put them in our laundry bag. Then come on down stairs. Mommy is going to see who the old friend is.”
Lana was halfway down the stairs, when she reached the spot where you could see into the front room where Nell and Martha were waiting. Lana and Martha saw each other at the same time. Although Martha suspected that Lana was visiting, she still almost dropped the pie after seeing her. Lana stood completely still and screamed a scream of joy. She then ran down the rest of the stairs to meet Martha. They hugged each other for what seemed like hours.

More coming. I am getting sleepy. I hope you like it.
Merry Christmas everybody. Merry Christmas.

Where Are You Christmas

Chapter 7

You’re Special

There are times when two people connect with each other’s spirits in such a special and intimate way, that words are not necessary. Their touch is all that is needed to convey thoughts regarding anything. For example, a mother’s touch or hug is capable of easing the pain of her hurting child, when nothing else or no one can. Or the way her glance into the eyes of a little one, will ease the fear of her frightened child. This is what was occurring now.

Neither Martha nor Lana needed to say anything. Just their touch communicated to one another all that needed to be said and it covered the span of ten years.
As they continued to hug one another, tears of joy ran down both women’s cheeks. This was a special time. A sacred time! Right now, Nell was witnessing a renewing of a relationship, that neither time nor distance could weaken.

To Martha, Lana was the daughter she never had. To Lana Martha was the mother she needed so badly to help her see past the loneliness and hurt that had been so prominent in her life for many years. Yes, this was a time of healing, restoration, hope and it was what both women needed so desperately. It was as if time was suspended for both women.

After they hugged, they drew back only to gaze into each other’s eyes realizing that even though it had been ten years since they had last seen one another, that nothing had changed. The bond between them that was forged so many years before had remained.
“Lana,” Martha said, “it’s so good to see you! I have missed you so much!”

Lana replied, “Martha, I have missed you too. I am sorry that I didn’t keep in touch. It’s just that it was so painful every time that I thought about Clark and thinking of you also reminded me of him and the pain of losing the love of my life. I am so sorry… ”

“No, Lana, I am the one that is sorry. I missed the chance to be of assistance to you in your time of trouble. I sincerely regret that, my dear,” Martha said, with a smile.

Nell was observing their reunion with happiness, and tears of joy began running down her cheeks as well.
Then, before anyone could say anything further, there was a whoosh heard in the room. Everyone turned to see what caused the sound and suddenly, young Clark fell over the couch and landed against the wall with a loud thud.
Lana ran over to him and said, “Clark, are you alright? Did you hurt yourself?”
“I’m fine, mom, really I am. There is no pain, nothing is broken, I am fine.”

Nell asked, somewhat confused, “What just happened? How did Clark just suddenly appear in here and what caused that loud whoosh noise?”

Martha, realizing exactly what had happened, broke out in a loud laugh, as she said, “You certainly are Clark’s boy aren’t you?”

Clark Jr., a little confused, looked at the new red haired woman, who was hugging his mother and had the most incredible smile on her face and such love in her eyes. Who is she? I feel as if I should know her and her smile. It is telling me “I love you and I am so happy to see you!” He quickly looked from this new person in the house to his mother. Lana understood the confused look on his face. She also was beginning to understand what had just happened.

With a smile, she looked at her son with a glance that said, “It’s all right, my dear.” She asked, “Clark what’s wrong? What just happened?”
He responded, “I don’t really know, mommy. I’m scared. I was in the room putting my dirty clothes into the laundry bag, when I heard you scream. All that I could think about was my mommy is in trouble and I have to help her. I ran as fast as I could to try and rescue you from whatever was making you scream and then, I found that I was running real fast, faster than I have ever run before. I couldn’t stop mommy. I ran right past you and fell into the couch and then twisted over the couch into this wall. I’m sorry, mommy; I didn’t mean to break anything. All I wanted to do was to help you.”

Everyone could see that Clark was frightened and confused, by what had just happened and they could also see that he was beginning to tremble.

Lana kissed young Clark on the cheek and then held him in her arms, trying to calm him down. She said, “It’s okay Clark, it’s okay. I expected this to happen to you sooner or later. Don’t worry. Everything is going to be alright.”

He asked, almost crying, “But mommy what happened to me? Why did I run so fast and how did I run into the couch and end up hitting the wall? I’m scared mommy, really scared!”
Lana could feel him start to tremble as tears ran down his face.
Martha knew exactly what to say, “It’s okay, Clark,” Martha said walking over to the young boy. “It’s just that you are special. Yes, very special! You are your mommy’s special boy. That’s why it happened, so you could be able to help your mom and save her from danger.”

He was beginning to calm down a little and he was no longer hyperventilating. He had no idea who this new person was, but he was starting to like her. He wasn’t sure how she knew what happened, but somehow her smile was telling him that everything was going to be all right.
Looking at his mother, he asked her politely, “Mom, is she a relative?”
Martha answered him. “Clark, we have never met, but judging by your handsome looks and seeing what you just did, I think I am your grandmother!” Martha flashed that huge Kent grin as she was realizing exactly what had just occurred.
After hearing this he turned and looked at his mother for confirmation of what this new lady had just told him. Deep within he hoped it was true. He liked her. She had a smile that, like his mother’s, helped him not to feel so alone. She also, somehow, seemed to understand him.

Lana looked into her son’s blue green eyes and said, “I love you, little man.” Then she said this, “Clark, I hope is just the beginning of many surprises.” While turning him to face the stranger, Lana said, “She’s right, my son. Clark, I want you to meet your grandmother, Martha Kent and Martha, meet Clark, Jr.”

Hesitating no longer, Martha ran over to her young grandson and said, as she put her arms around him and held him tight, “I have wanted to see and hold you since I thought I saw you and your mother in the airport yesterday. I love you, Clark, and I want to spend as much time with you as possible. You also need to know that you are exactly like your father. He is a very special person as well. But you will learn more about that as we visit and spend time together.”

Turning to Lana, Martha asked, “Does Clark, Sr. know about his son.”

“No, Mom, he doesn’t. I wasn’t sure if he wanted to ever hear from me again, so, although I want to tell him, I didn’t. “
Clark was happy and surprised; they were talking about his father. His dad was apparently a special person and he didn’t abandon and not love him. His father never knew he had a son. A smile was forming across his face. So, I am Clark, Jr. he thought. That means my father is Clark Kent. I know that since his mother, my grandmother, is Martha Kent. I wonder if he is in mommy’s school yearbook. The more he thought about, the more excited he became. Suddenly, another loud wish was heard. Clark disappeared and returned a few seconds later. He said, “I really like being able to run this fast.”

“Yes, Clark, but you mustn’t do it around anyone that doesn’t know that you are special, or else people will want to take you away and do experiments on you, replied Martha.”

Realizing what she had said, but not quite understanding all its implications, he said, “Oh!” Then with a look of sadness and anticipation on his face, he asked Martha, “Grandma, would you show me which of the people in here is my daddy, please?”
Martha quickly shot a glance over to Lana and asked, “Is it okay Lana?”
“Yes Martha, it’s okay. It’s time for Clark to learn about his father.” But before anything else could be said, Lana went over to him and gave him a hug. “Clark,” Lana said, looking into his beautiful blue green eyes, “I want you to know that I have wanted to tell you about your father, over one thousand times. I also want you to know that I love your father very, very much and the reason I didn’t tell you about him is because it hurt too much to think of him. That’s why I never told you about Clark, Sr. and I am so sorry.”

As Lana said this, tears began to fall from her eyes, partly because she was thinking about his father, but the other reason was that because of the pain, she kept him from knowing about and having a relationship with his father.

Sensing what was happening in Lana and the sadness she was experiencing because of not letting her son know about his father and seeing how much Lana still cared for Clark, Martha went over to her and held her in a loving embrace. Lana sobbed for a while. Martha was more than happy to give her a shoulder to cry on and said, “It okay, Lana, its okay.”

More to come soon.

Where Are You Christmas
Chapter 8

Letting Them In

Meanwhile in Metropolis

“Come on Clark,” Chloe said, “Seriously, what are your plans going to be for Christmas Day? Lois and I were thinking of starting the day off opening gifts and then going to spend time with old friends. Why don’t you join us? It’s going to be a lot of fun! Besides, it will give Lois an opportunity to spend some time with you outside of the office. She has really taken a liking to you, since you’ve come back from training. Please plan to be with us. ”

“Chloe, you know I don’t celebrate Christmas anymore. Besides, I have my Superman duties to carry out. I really don’t have the time to spend with old friends.”
“Clark, you can relax for one day. Nothing happens on Christmas Day; even the crooks are visiting with their families. Seriously, you have to open up sooner or later. It’s time to let people in again.”

“What are you talking about, Chloe, what do you mean let people in again?”
“You know exactly what I mean, Clark, you have been skillfully avoiding doing anything with anyone outside of office activities. You know some of us would welcome the chance of getting to know you better and others would love to have the opportunity of just getting to know you period. You have shut us all out. Like I said, open up, let us in. Clark, we want to be a part of your life, you know, like we used to be.”

“No, Chloe, not yet. I am not ready to let people back into my life in that way. It always ends up being too painful.”
“Clark, you can’t keep people away from you forever. You have to let someone get close to you sooner or later.”
“I can’t Chloe, I can’t. Every time I have let someone get close, ‘The Superman Curse’ goes into effect and they eventually get hurt. It happens to everyone I have ever loved or cared for. I refuse to let it occur again.”

“There is no such thing as a ‘Superman Curse’ and you know it. Lois and I have known you for a long time and nothing has happened to us and nothing ever will. There is no curse. I will agree that unfortunate things happened to some people we knew from Smallville, but they were coincidence, not related to or caused by any curse.”
Having said this she walked over to where he was standing and put her arms around him and gave him a friendly hug. “Clark,” she whispered, “Let us in Clark, let us in, please, it’s time. Actually it’s way past time.”
“Whoa,” they heard a voice say. “Smallville, I have been trying to get you to notice me for months and you have had a secret thing for my cousin? Well, I never saw that coming.”
Lois was joking, but somewhere deep down inside, she was a little bit jealous of Chloe, who was able to get closer to him than anyone else could. “So, Smallville, the office party for The Daily Planet is tomorrow evening at The Doubletree Metropolis. Are you planning to go? Are you taking a date?”

“Sorry, Lois,” Clark replied, “I wasn’t planning to go at all. I have things to do.”

“Like what?” she replied. “What could be more important than getting to know your fellow workers at the party? Come on with us, Clark. We can all go together and you can be my date! You are just too good looking to sit at home eating beans and franks and watching T.V. What do you say? Think of it as our first date, okay?”
“Lois, I am really not ready to go to any parties. I am sorry, but I have to say, no ”

“There then, it’s settled. Chloe and I will pick you up at seven tomorrow at your place. This is great; we are going to have so much fun together. You won’t regret about coming with us. Besides, Clark, something tells me that we are destined to be with each other, so we had better get the ball rolling.”
As they were discussing the plans for tomorrow, Perry White, the editor for The Daily Planet, yelled, “Kent, get in here!”

“Yes, chief,” he replied, walking over to Mr. White’s office and going inside.

“Kent, close the door and sit down. I want to talk to you for a few minutes. I have been watching you closely since the day you started working for The Planet.”
“Is it something about my work, Mr. White? If it is, just let me know what you are not pleased with and I will correct it right away.”
Mr. White chuckled. “It’s not your work. Your work is impressive. In fact you are my best reporter. If I am correct in my feelings - and I am rarely wrong - someday you are going to win a Pulitzer Prize for your efforts. But, I have been noticing that you are a loner, Kent - something that isn’t good in our field. I want you to make friends, get close to your fellow workers. I overheard your conversation with Chloe and Lois. I think it would be a great idea for you to go to that party with them.”

“But, sir…,” Clark replied.

“Now look, Clark,” Perry replied, cutting him off, “I am the boss here, and I have a feeling of what is best for my employees, and I want to see you at that party. Do we understand each other, Kent?”

“Yes, Mr. White, I think we do.”
“Good,” replied Perry, “now off to work, lad. I am sure there is something you can work on before today is over. See if you can come up with more information on this Superman fellow. I have a feeling that he is going to be hot news from now on. I wonder where he came from.”
As he left the office to go back to his desk, Clark realized that it was time to begin letting people get a little closer to him. He would allow Chloe and Lois to get to know him a little better. Maybe Lois isn’t so bad after all. I will give it a try.

Back in Smallville

After Martha and Lana finished hugging, they both looked at the Clark Jr., who was patiently waiting. He was curious to see who his father was. Martha flipped the pages of the yearbook and came to the pages with the graduates’ pictures. Instead of finding the page where her son’s graduation picture was placed, she instead went to the page where Lana and Clark were pictured together and the title underneath said, “Most Popular Couple.” Finding the page, Martha said to Clark, “Let’s go in and sit down.”
When Martha, Lana and Clark Jr. were all seated at the dining room table, Martha showed him the picture of his parents.

Lana looked at the picture and recalled the day it was taken.
She remembered that it was several months after they had gotten back together. Clark had lost his memory. He found her at school, putting things in her locker and asked her why they were no longer together as a couple. She told him she didn’t know. Clark couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He then asked her how could he have been the one to end their relationship, especially the way he was feeling about her. He asked her to meet him at his house the next day so they could discuss things. On her arrival at his house she discovered that Clark Sr. had no recollection of the events of the previous day. Embarrassed, she started to leave, but then something totally unexpected happened. Clark called her back, told her that he couldn’t do this any longer and asked her to stay. He wanted to begin seeing her again. He told her that this time it was going to be different..
Remembering this brought a tear to Lana’s eye. She fought back the rest that were threatening to come.
Lana was pulled out of her memory by a “Wow,” which was uttered by Clark Jr. “That’s my dad,” he shouted. “He looks just like me!”

“No, my love,” Lana said, “You look just like your father!”

Martha began to tell him about his father while paging through the yearbook. Proudly, she stopped at the pages set aside to remember the year; Smallville’s football team became state champions. They were lead to the championship by captain and star quarterback, Clark Kent.
“Wow,” little Clark exclaimed, “my daddy was star quarterback and captain of the football team. This is totally awesome! I sure hope I get to meet my daddy soon.”

“Well, before we go back to California, we will plan a trip to Metropolis to take you to meet your daddy,” Martha said. “That is, if it’s okay with you, Lana?”
“It’s okay with me,” Lana said, with a nervous smile. “Besides, your daddy and I have several things to talk about,” she said to Clark Jr. “Martha, please don’t tell him we are here yet. No matter how much I want to see him, I am just a bit nervous. Just give me a few days to get myself emotionally ready to see the man of my dreams again.”
