Character Guidelines and Format

When submitting your first character, please provide links to two or three examples of previous role plays. This is just to make sure everyone’s on the same page as far as skills are concerned.

If you’re looking for a long, boring list of rules, you won’t find it. Though there aren’t true “rules” for creating characters, here, there are just a few things we look for.

For one, SF makes a point of allowing only quality, creative characters into its role play. We don’t expect positively phenomenal characters and hardly even look for completely believable ones (though those two are a treat to read); after all, this is (generally) the Sonic universe we’re talking about and playing in.
In short, we just don’t want characters laden with cliché upon cliché. We want originality, creativity, and well-thought-out characters.

Some concepts to avoid (since we won’t approve them anyway) are recolors, rehashes, over-powered characters, characters with relations to the official cast, characters related to other series, and, for the sake of simplicity, characters from alternate universes or worlds.
Fan characters should not rival, equal or pass Official characters in abilities (should not be faster than Sonic, smarter than Tails/Eggman, etc.)

Before submitting a finished bio, make sure your character isn’t “tacky.” Check for any loopholes, loose ends, contradictions, or concepts that just seem out of place on your character. A character whose various parts flow well together, without jarring, tacked-on concepts, is much more pleasing to read about. A good way to reduce the risk of a “tacky” character is to build him up from a single theme.

And finally, when creating (or modifying) your character for SF, keep in mind that he will be placed in “a failed society full of feuding where survival is impossible except when in a group.” Take that bit of info as you need to.

Once you’ve submitted your character’s bio, prepare for some potentially harsh critiques and criticism. The SF team is going to prune your character, though only where needed, if needed.

Characters require the approvals of two staff members before being admitted to Sonic Factions.

Basic Profile Format (we'd love it if you'd add more)

Species:
Sex:
Appearance:

Personality:
Skills (Non-combative):
Items (Non-combative):
Abilities (combative):
Weapons:
Family:
Friends:
History:
Extra Info:

We do expect a bit of detail in each field, especially when it comes to personality. Characters need not have weapons or fighting skill at all. History should probably include what the character was doing at the Last.Laugh Event. Histories need not be long and detailed if you don't want them to be. Though we would like to see more than just a skeleton, as long as the history touches on major events in the character's life, and explains why they are the way they are, you're okay.

As for PNPC, we would like to see a bit of info on them, as well. what we ask for for them at least is Name, Age, Relation to Main Character, Personality, Skills and Abilities, and Weapons (if any).
...And, don't be afraid to contact us if you have any suggestions, or problems, or questions, or if you really like an
idea, but don't know if it's fair or allowed. ^^ We're happy to work with you on said idea; our rules are just guidelines so long as you're willing to talk to us about it, first...
