Skippingwolf carefully stalked behind hte rabbit in front of him, reddying to pounce on it, and then drag it back to camp. His body was tense, with muscle rippling through his length, but just before he made the kill... the wind shifted, and the rabbit bolted.

"Mouse-dung!" Skippingwolf yowled, and bolted after it, his treelegs running in the manner that earned him the title Skippingwolf. But had anyone been watching, they would have been generally surprised how the crippled cat tore up the ears, his belly low enough now that all four paws touched for short periods of time, and he flew after the rabbit. With a final powerful pounce, ending with his right leg fully extended, and is left not going past a 90 degree angle. To his surprise, his front claws caught the rabbit, and with a swift bite, he killed it.

"Try to run from me, will you..." Snarled the cat, and was surprised when he smelt a Windcland scent drifting to his open mouth, and he turned to see who it was.

Spiderfang trotted proudly out of the heather, leading a border patrol consisting of Thistleclaw, Rainpaw and Lavapelt. "Nice catch," he commented with a nod towards the older warrior. His eyes glittered happily for this was the first patrol he got to lead as a warrior.

"Thanks." Skipping wolf made his way over to them, moving as easily on his three legs as he had on his four, his left leg untouching the ground. He carried his prey with him, unable to surpress a purr. "I didn't think I'd catch it there for a minute..." He added.

"It's a good thing you did," Lavapelt meowed. "We need all the prey we can catch."

Skippingwolf nodded. It had been a rare sight to see the rabbit, and it was plumper than most he had seen. Only such a needed specimine would provoke his mad dash after it. He dropped the rabbit on the ground and gave his pelt a little shake, getting rid of some of the dust that clung to it.

"We're going to have to split it between the elders, queens and kits," Thistleclaw meowed. "The next bit of prey we find should probably go to Duskmoon and then we can worry about feeding warriors and apprentice," Thistleclaw mewed, scenting the air. With a slight jolt, he found something and crept off through the tall grass. He came back a moment later with a small mouse clamped firmly in his jaws.

Skippingwolf nodded, scenting the air with an open mouth. He couldn't catch anymore prey scent except the mouse and the rabbit now. So he turned back to Thistleclaw. "Looks like out luck is up for now... maybe there will be something else on the way back to camp." He said, picking his rabbit back up, and waiting to see if they were coming yet.

Rainpaw had been strangely silent during the whole patrol and even now he didn't say a word. In fact he wasn't even paying attention to the conversation at all. His attention was on something else.

Skippingwolf nodded in agreement again. he lead the way back to camp, but paused for a moment, ears twitching. Slowly, he set down the rabbit, and scented the air again.

"Squirrel...." He muttered, his eyes finally catching sight of it. He stalked forward, low on his belly, trying to creep up on it before it skirted up the trunk. This squirrel was lean, hardly good for a meal for anyones mouth, but it was something. But at the last moment, it, like the rabbit, sensed something, and bolted up the tree. In reflex, Skippingwolf launched himself after it, all four paws grabbing the scrappy little beast, and he flipped in mid air, landing with it between his front claws, crushing in with the landing. He examined it, and with a prod he pulled it next to the rabbit.

The two pieces of kill looked hardly fit to be next to each other. One was plump and well fed, the other straggly and lifeless. he guessed the rabbit came here from another clans territory, and the squirrel had been one of the occupants of WindClan.

Spiderfang nodded slightly. "Rainpaw, can you come with me to fetch water for the elders?" he asked, looking around for some moss to use to carry water from RiverClan back to camp.

Thistleclaw watched Skippingwolf. "Nice catch," he mewed and picked up his mouse.

"Alright," the orange and white tom meowed. He gathered some moss and seperated it into two piles. He nudged one pile towards Rainpaw and took the other and started heading for the river.

Skippingwolf turned the rabbit and the squirrel, so the ears and the tail were at the same end, and picked them up that way in his mouth, teeth tight to drag the load. the hare was heaviest, and the squirrel hardly extra to carry, but the fur brushed his tounge, and it was uncouforable. He padded behind the others, his slow steady gallop unbroken by the wieght of the kill.
