The first one I played was the one released on xbox360 and ps3. It was trash so I was wondering which one should I play of the games to make it a better experience

... Which one? There have been Rereleases on those consoles, Lords of Shadow and Lords of Shadow 2 are on those consoles... And I would like to know what you meant by trash.

I have seen some stuff from Rondo of Blood and Dracula X, but I don't really know the differences between them. I know Dracula X was a remake of some type of the Japanese version of Rondo of Blood, and Rondo of blood came out in the west later on PSP, but I don't know how they are different in gameplay/story or which I should try out, if either.

Lords of Shadow interests me. I like God of War style games, and I think I would enjoy one in the Castlevania setting. The story sounds pretty good from what I know about it as well. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Lots of people say that they either fell out of love with Castlevania once metroidvania became a thing, but I know people that say they got into it because of them and they really love all the modern handheld games that do the SotN thing with the backtracking and the leveling up and the items and stuff. The only one like that I have played that was in that style was SotN and as I said, I loved that game.

Also, I am wondering the appeal of 1 and 3, is it just nostalgia or do they hold up still? I legitimately cannot play the games so I don't really know. The only one that works enough with my eyes that I could even consider playing would be 2 because of the more washed out color pallet (I've seen many screenshots). But from what I hear about 2, its the worst thing ever made by mankind and I should stay as far away as possible.
A lot of people tend to say that Rondo of Blood is the superior version, because it has two playable characters, more branching paths, and a better final boss, but I enjoy Dracula X as well.

I think there are too many ripoffs of God of War, not to mention the other games that it has ripped off of (Shadow of the Colossus being the one that really made me mad).

Metroidvania isn't bad per-se, I just don't think it has a place in Castlevania. To me, it feels as if I'm playing Metroid with more backtracking and leveling up, which I don't like. I love Metroid because you get the open-ended exploring experience without much of that backtracking and no level ups. It makes you feel as if you're growing throughout the game without having to be annoying about it.

The appeal of I and III is that they're challenging, but they're a lot more straightforward and make you run around less. Also, the level design was genius, and I never felt as if it was too difficult (except Castlevania III my god is it hard in the wrong ways sometimes). I'm sure some people still like it due to only nostalgia, but personally I really enjoy the games. They're dated at a first glance and you'll have to get used to the jump arcs, but once you spend about two or three minutes playing, you'll have really gotten a good handle on how to properly play it. Still hard as hell, though. About Castlevania II... well, if you want to know the best way of putting it, I would refer you to Egoraptor's Sequelitis video on Castlevania and Castlevania II. It's a good watch. However, some people do enjoy Simon's Quest (though I really don't know why)..

I will look into Rondo of Blood then. It looks pretty good, and gotta love that Richter Belmont. I would love to play one and three, and I will if I can find a way to make the game work better with my eyes.

Have you ever played Bloodlines?

Bloodlines is honestly my favorite Castlevania game. I would really look into it, either on an emulator or otherwise.

I just can't do it!! The freaking platforms descend if you don't jump on them in the right order, and there are two ghosts which take several hits to kill, that spawn as you are going through it! How is that fair? HOW!?!?!?!?
The German level is my least favorite ;-; Still amazing, just I am terrible at it
